Hah got up to Lvl. 15 with my lancer today. I'm glad I got in that line in Ultros early today, only waited about 25 minutes, "Chasing Shadows" is the name of the event I think. I eventually said screw it and just walked up and mashed the x button for 5 minutes till I finally got in. Thank god I finished it the time!

Love the chaos when there's a fate discovery!

I joined the back of this queue shortly after taking the screenshot. Two hours! Glad I beat it on my first attempt.

Pretty cool that something like that can happen organically around a bug.

Says something about the game's beta community. Will be fun to look back at something like that if this game gets popular (which always means everyone is shitty).

Hmm...I wonder if there's any way to dig up my old character info.

I didn't play very far in v1, got to 20 on a few jobs and nothing special outside of the Onion Helm. Should I bother going through the hassle? I kinda wanna use my authenticator still at least...

Im sure you'll save $30 if you're 1.0

Sucks that the beta is over for this week.

Maybe I won't play too much of this. I do want the experience to be fresh for the launch.

Had a few questions I couldn't get answer to...

Anyone know if the beta client will just turn into the final build when it comes time to launch?
What about the character creations saves you can make now, any chance they will carry into the final game?
How will "jobs" work in this game?
You will be able to pick you're city in the final build now? Kind of crappy the way it works now.

This game runs badly on my PC. :(

Damn you dual core processor and 8800GTX derivative!

Edit: So it's going now? I just got into the third beta stage a few days ago, and didn't install it until today. Oh well.

Am I the only one that thinks this feels way more like WoW or GW than FFXI? I probably won't play it longer than a month when it comes out and I had like 400 days played on FFXI, this just feels like a generic American MMO now :[

I had like 400 days on FFXI as well and about 60-70 FFXIV 1.0. My worst fears are being realized. This game is just not unique at all, which is a big shock from the very unique 1.0.

My current excuse for them is "maybe only the low levels are like that". EQ2 had a gameplay adjustment to it where they added quest chains, narrow maps, handholding to the game (although it still wasn't this bad, lol), but that ended at like level 20-30(?) before it pushed you back into the real game. Maybe they are taking that approach with FFXIV 2.0. Using modern MMO tactics to hook people in at first, before tunneling those players into the real crack that keeps them there for 5 years or so.

I don't know, overall my impressions of the game are negative but I'm still holding out hope. I just don't see how they could risk creating another TOR in a market like this, there has to be something else to this game that we haven't seen yet.

Grinding groups of mobs nonstop for hours at a time is not "unique" and it's a shitty hollow play experience that has been around since 1999 and sooner

Get rid of the grind, keep everything else. I think that's what most people wanted when they complained about the time sinks in FFXI. It doesn't seem like they did that though. Take the Wow model, slap a FF skin on it and call it a day.

And you have played how many hours of ARR so far? WoW wishes it had this much love put into every inch of the game. The game barely has basic parts of WoW the rest of it is it's own thing.

After a couple days it's not so bad... but not $15/mo good either. This is my first MMO though, maybe the genre isn't for me.

As opposed to a generic Asian mmo? We all have our preferences but let's not call ffxi or ffxiv 1.0 anything more than what they were.

People can't get addicted to theme park mmos? WoW wasn't the real crack, I just didn't know better which is why I played for 9 years.

If they can fool me into thinking that something boring is fun, then do it to me all day. When I go sit down at a theater to watch a movie, I'm just sitting in a chair for two hours. How can people love to just sit in a chair for two hours? They're feeling something, and I'm not feeling anything from this game.

yet.

i'm just trying to be optimistic with that

You maybe don't think that after spending over 1400 hours on the game that being tossed into the kiddie pool side of things without all your old stuff might be leaving you a bit jadded?

I have about four so far. Like I posted a couple pages back I think it's decent so far. Mainly just going off the impressions from people with quiet a bit more time then I. Aside from the obvious inspirations, what is this games thing?

It's just really hard to enjoy these them park MMOs. They all feel exactly the same. Everything is tailored for you, you never have to go out of your way to earn something you NEED to advance. You rarely face enemies that you can't beat in a fairly straight forward way. You are constantly being propelled to the next set piece. Carefully acquiring gear is pointless because the whole game is pretty much just a giant tutorial for end game and it's pointless to put any thought into any level but whatever the current level cap is... and let's face it, the game rushes you to this level anyways.

I'll keep playing. I want this game to be good.

i didn't have any old stuff. i sold it all and bought like 500 santa outfits. outside of that, AF? easy quested gear? it's been what, 8 months? say whatever you want to discredit me, but i'm not attached to that game at all. if i cared about that shit, i wouldn't be so hard on the game.

Actual story progression, amazing world design/music *atmosphere*, the job/class system and sharing moves, the limit break system, 1 character is every class/tradeskill/gatherer class. Every single class in the game *counting gatherer and crafters* have their own storyline to follow, and as odd as it sound job roles are solidified things *this is actually uncommon these days, most mmo's seem to copy the wow style anyone can do a ton of different things with the same class* Gathering and Crafting are their own unique subsystems with their own gear to improve the minigames involved with them.

So what exactly do you miss? The empty copy pasta environments? The social aspect of it? I haven't caught exactly what you feel made the old 14 good. It's not like group content is going away I just spent about 4 hours running dungeons today and chatting it up with randoms.

This is 100% dependent on what class you are playing. As a THM I can call BS on the statement. The level 15 class quest required sneaking around enemies and ccing a constant flow of foes during a 5+ minute fight. Foes that if you tried to fight head on at the start of the zone they kill you in about 10 seconds.

Don't even get me started on the stupid main story quest at 15 on a THM
