Metal Gear Solid V (PS3/360/PS4/XBO/Maybe PC) - Extended 9 minute E3 trailer

this is honestly one of my favorite parts of MGS2. snake vs solidus (raiden caught in the cross fire of two legends) and then pliskin's reveal as snake and the proceeding conversation. dat character development.

Solidus is just an implied legend though.
As he even appeared in any other game of the series?

Very well done.

Seeing the footage in order like this, only increases my theory that Ishmael isn't a figment of Snake's imagination. Ishmael is voiced by Keifer Sutherland, and if the player has already been listening to Kiefer voicing Snake for the prologue, then it's got to be the worst attempt at a twist ever.

I've almost found it too obvious from the start even. I'm putting my money on hidden identity instead.

Little behind, just now watched the extended trailer. Wow, that first minute or two of the torture scenes was really intense, and then you find out that Big Boss and Miller are in on it, and it's like :(. I guess since this will be the game where we see BB finally turn bad, we'll be venturing into dark territory. I've never been a huge fan of open ended games, but I'm willing to give it a shot for Metal Gear.

My only real complaint is the "horn", that looks really dammed stupid.

edit; Holy shit I figured out why they ditched Hayter and went for Sutherland: they are making the MGS movie and want fans to get used to the Holliwood actor playing Snake. He's going to be Solid Snake in the movie.

I think there's mathematically no chance of this.

I feel like there's some big element to everything that we're not seeing. Not sure if it's as big as like the MGS2 switch, or say the Animus in Assassin's Creed 1, but something.

Kojima also said in a interview that was posted that MGS V would do something with it's narrative that's only possible in the videogame medium.

Kojima-san, you are famous for breaking the fourth wall in your games. How might you use to features of the next-gen consoles to do this in MGSV?

Specifically for the next-gen and Metal Gear Solid V, it's not necessarily about breaking the fourth wall, but we do have a big surprise for the players in this game. We have challenged and pushed ourselves with something that movies can't do but only games can do. It hasn't been done before.

To lead ourselves to a point that makes sense, we have to break down what games can do that movies can never do.

everytime I read something like that from Kojima

but with KOJIMA!!!!! as the text.

Quiet being a sniper made me think of Sniper Wolf immediately. Sniper Wolf was born in 1980, meaning a 4 year old sniper would not make a lick of sense, especially with a C/D cup. It also isn't known if Quiet is from Iraq or Afghanistan, Wolf being a kurd means she's Iraqi.

Quiet being Sniper Wolf's mother though makes a lot of sense. Sniper Wolf's early life bio:

Sniper Wolf was from the south of Kurdistan; she was born and raised in the middle of a violent guerrilla conflict between Kurdish freedom fighters and the Iraqi regime of Saddam Hussein, surrounded by gunfire, sirens, and screams. She was constantly being hunted and always had to move from one shelter to another on a regular basis hiding from the regime. When she would wake up from sleep, she would often find one of her friends or family dead beside her, and prayed that she would make it through each day. The international community did nothing to help her or stop the fighting, which made her hate the political world.

During the 1988 Al-Anfal Campaign in the Iran-Iraq War, Sniper Wolf witnessed the gassing of her friends and family at the hands of Iraqi soldiers. Sniper Wolf would later be trained by Gurkhas who taught her all they knew about sniping. Wolf eventually met Big Boss, who saw great potential and talent within her. Big Boss brought the young Sniper Wolf to the United States. Wolf eventually came to look up to Big Boss, whom she called "Saladin".

Wolf then became a lone sniper, so she could watch and wait, and see war from the outside rather than from the inside. After the "death" of Big Boss, Sniper Wolf was later recruited into FOXHOUND, to get her revenge on the world.

http://metalgear.wikia.com/wiki/Sniper_Wolf

Big Boss helping her and being a father figure could be atonement for him killing her mother, along with Ocelot torturing her mother as well. Sniper Wolf probably wouldn't know of this, because her mother becomes a mute from the torture she got. Sniper Wolf looking up to someone who possibly killed her mother, and joining a unit where Ocelot is one of the leaders, is pretty ironic or coincidental.

Quiet would never be able to tell her daughter about Big Boss or Ocelot, and Sniper Wolf ends up helping both of those people.

Yeah I thought Hayter was not hired back because he might have been asking too much cash, but if they got Keifer Sutherland I can't imagine this being the case, or at least it lowers the chances.

Whatever the case, there is definitely something about those vertical bars and I maintain it's reliving-memories-related!

Same with how in the GZ and first PP trailer, every time the camera was looking at a bright light we'd hear a weird hissing sound.

There's something hidden in there.

Hayter never did it for the cash. Remember, he ditched most of his paycheck for Twin Snakes so the other original VA's could be hired.

But yeah, I agree that there still is something going on that explains why Hayter isn't Big Boss. An in-game twist, I mean.

Time will tell.

Popular theory is that it's the intro/tutorial of the game. It'll explain all the controls and get you ready for the weirdness to follow, then a "NINE YEARS EARLIER" title card pops up and we start playing Ground Zeroes.

I thought popular theory was the periods of time may not even be one game. Kojima has been very secretive about the fact, at the very least.

EDIT: Though i do admit. Just as i clicked post, i do sort of remember Kojima saying something to the effect of that section being a tutorial. Hmm, perhaps i'm wrong then.

Still. Any gamer who's been keeping up with the news about Hayter's departure and Sutherland now voicing snake, which is probably a lot of people, is instantly going to her Sutherland's voice and know. But i guess it's not exactly planned to be a late twist, but probably one within the first hour.

Considering how popular Gray Fox is Is be surprised if he doesn't at least pop up somewhere. We definitely are leading into MG1 and MG2 finally.

Metal Gear fans still desperately clinging to Gray Fox I see.

Hopefully Gray Fox pops up in Africa. Here's hoping. I loved his stuff in MGS1 and before that. In fact, I really hope that many FOX-HOUND peeps from MGS1 appear in this game.

I really don't know why they'd get rid of him, after all the Japanese actor for Snake is still the same. Maybe Kojima (or someone else of a similar charge) didn't like Hayter. It was definitely not for money, Hayter even gave up a lot of his Twin Snakes salary so the complete cast could return, so he's not like that.

And a big name actor like Sutherland would probably ask double anyway. It could've been that they wanted someone famous. If they did, shame on them, but whatever.

On your edit, if anything I'd want Hayter to be the writer, he has interest in that!

You got to love it when analysis on focuses on the aspects that support the theory you have.

Although I do hope to see Gray Fox.

I think he will be in the game, it's in the timeline so..

Although I don't think 'new' Snake is Gray Fox, that's going a bit too far. But he made some good observations nonetheless.

No, not me. Still many things I need to do.

I don't think Kojima even hated Hayter. As memory serves, they had a rather close relationship, Kojima actually preferred the english MGS because he envisioned his characters speaking english in the first place. He can even speak Japanese (albeit with an accent) since he grew up in Kobe Japan.

At the anniversary meeting, Hayter even did a somewhat jokey video congratulating Kojima, which got a good laugh out of him.

I don't see a problem with Hayter disappearing as Big Boss. This won't be the first game that has happened, and I think distancing older Big Boss' voice work from Hayter is a good thing to give each character a stronger distinction.

You have some Metal Gear fans flipping shit because Hayter isn't Big Boss, but I don't see why he has to be. Hayter was always Snake first, Big Boss second. And there's no real reason Big Boss has to sound like Solid Snake.

My interpretation of what's happening is that Kojima is opting to switch voice actors as Big Boss ages, leading to Doyle's voice or around that from MGS4. We know his Hayter voice only lasts so long.

With Solid Snake it's different, and I'm happy with that. If you told me Hayter would be leaving the Solid Snake role, then there'd probably be issues. :lol

But I agree, I don't see much of a problem with Hayter leaving the Big Boss role. The character's aging demands it at some point.

I wonder if the areas, at least the one from the trailer, really need to be that big.
Looks like a vast empty zone to lead to the one where all the core of the gameplay takes place. I could see it useful if you could get hunted aggressively and by many soldiers in different vehicles, then trying to hide in such big place can have an impact.

A lot of it has to do with Hayter voicing Big Boss in three other games, MGS3, Portable Ops, and Peace Walker.

A lot of it has to do with the manner with which Kojima just sort of supposedly recast Big Boss, and didn't even bother telling Hayter about it.

That being said, most fans adore Hayter because he was the voice they grew up with, and because he's done a lot of promotional and fan interviews, and tends to be an all around cool guy. He'll joke around with you if you meet him on the street, he's a comic book nerd (his daughter is named Natasha after Black Widow). He's a lot more relate able and easily approachable.

I, for one, don't want to see Hayter coming back to the series. I feel sorry for the man, it must be tough to leave the role you've been doing for 15 years, but his performance was really not up to par anymore. You can't limit the series because of a decision someone made 15 years ago when choosing a voice actor, when every aspect of technology is making videogames better in every other regard. Hiring better, more capable actors was a transition that we had to make at some point.

I'm not saying Solid Snake has to be voiced by Kiefer too, necessarily, but if it's not him, I'd prefer someone new take on the role, while Kiefer can stick to Big Boss.

I think it's either Gray Fox, grown up Chico, or Johnny.

Unless Chico dies in the attack on Mother Base, something has to happen to him. It also looked like we were seeing Big Boss and Kaz from someone else's perspective in the PP trailer when they are in the hospital.

BTW so far it goes: Afghanistan -> Africa, and then we don't know. But considering what the game is about, I get the feeling it will stay in those two locations for the most part. If not, then we've only seen maybe the first part of PP. It would be: GZ, with the destruction of Mother Base. BB wakes up and escapes the hospital with Ocelot. Goes to Afghanistan to save Kaz. Goes to Africa to look for whatever Zero is doing, meets some child soldiers, and kills some of them.

Again I really wonder how the heck BB can end up as head of Fox Hound after all this.

edit: Also about the Hayter thing, who was voicing Solidus, Liquid, etc., in the previous Japanese versions of the games? Maybe there's going to be a bit of every Snakes in this game, so he didn't want to have two Snakes with the same voice while the others don't have the same one.

It wouldn't be Chico, why would his accent change so dramatically?
