There's a British flag, he would have been there for nine years. Something has to happen to him, and like I said before we see from someone's perspective in that PP trailer, so presumably soon after Mother Base falls. Kaz specifically looks at the camera and says "What about him?" and one of the nurses turns around, as if to look at the person. There IS someone.

edit: Also, makes you wonder how Kaz ended up captured.

I don't agree with the assumptions of that youtube video, but do you honestly not think Gray Fox has a good chance of appearing in this game at all?

He should, but his back story in Portable Ops sorts has never been mentioned again since. Kind of weird, and if he's back then it will have to acknowledge what happened in the game.

edit: Also, why say "Those who don't exist" when it shows Psycho mantis and the demon? I wonder if there will be a lot of those illusion-characters in the game, or does it refer to some mysterious group, such as The Patriots or some such?

edit2: About the eye patch, obviously they upgraded his eye just like they upgraded his arm. He's not Gray Fox, lol. But the guy next to him in the hospital is SOMEONE most likely the same person who is there when he wakes up, we just don't know who yet. Also, the guy is in top shape, he hasn't been in a coma, unlike BB who's muscles have atrophied

Ishmael is a subconscious projection of Big Boss, they both are voiced by Kiefer. Why would Ocelot leave Ishmael behind when he saves BB? And I bet Chico dies on the operation table, hence why Miller asks "What about him?". He knows Chico leaked info but probably has some valuable information about Skullface, hence why Miller is so concerned about him after knowing Big Boss is in a coma.

Either that or Miller and Chico go to Camp Omega to retailiate and Chico gets killed and Miller captured.

Some interesting theories there about Gray Fox.

I'm pretty much on board with the "Punished Snake isn't the real Big Boss" theory (no shrapnel on Big Boss when he falls into a coma, "what about him?" -> yup, switcheroo incoming... and "Ishmael" seems to be a Tyler Durden, possibly a manifestation of Punished Snake's true persona), but boy do those guys want Hayter to remain in the series...

Also, "do you really think the same voice actor would voice different characters?" Happened before, really, even within the same game (Ôtsuka voiced both Solid Snake and Solidus Snake).

I think it's either Gray Fox, grown up Chico, or Johnny.

Chico was my first guess, although I guess Fox is another possibility indeed (a bit too big a departure from his "ninja" image for me though).

We don't know when they discovered the bomb exactly, do we? Maybe it wasn't on the way to Mother Base, but rather as they were escaping from Mother Base? And maybe it did go off, which would explain how Big Boss and Kaz got badly injured. And who else was on the scene? Paz, a medic... and Chico.

Unless Chico dies in the attack on Mother Base, something has to happen to him.

Plus, there has to be something to that weird jack plug (?) on his chest. Seems weird to introduce that if Chico's role is limited to the "9 years earlier" introduction.

A bit weird that "they"'d manage to make him look the age for the part, but then again, weird stuff happens all the damn time, in this series. And we have a Decoy Octopus show up down the road.

In fact... we'd have:
* a decoy fashioned after Big Boss -> Decoy Octopus
* a levitating boy with a gasmask -> Psycho Mantis
* Ocelot -> Revolver Ocelot
* Eli -> Liquid Snake
* a woman sniper -> Sniper Wolf (possibly simply related, unless Kojima retcons her age)
* a "shaman" -> Vulcan Raven (a relation?)

about the Hayter thing, who was voicing Solidus, Liquid, etc., in the previous Japanese versions of the games?

Ôtsuka Akio voiced Solid Snake, Solidus Snake and Naked Snake (and apparently Big Boss and Punished Snake in Metal Gear Solid V).
Ôtsuka Chikao (Ôtsuka Akio's father) voiced Big Boss in Metal Gear Solid 4.
Ginga Banjô voiced Liquid Snake and Liquid Ocelot.

Ok, I haven't been following the whole thread, only this last bits, but has anyone though that all the characters mentioned in the trailer are boss fights?

I mean, Metal Gear is pretty famous for its bossfights... and to me they just seem to fit the bill...

For example, instead of killing them, once defeated they are tortured by Miller and Ocelot to find out who betrayed MSF (Huey's case) or what do they know about Zero/Cypher...

IIRC, with each and every showing of a metal gear the boss fights were heavily promoted in the trailers... (same case with Metal Gear Rising: REvengeance)...

So, why is there no promotion so far of the boss fights, or perhaps, we are simply not seeing them...

Think about it, in PW you could capture enemies and vehicles during boss fights... why wouldn't you be able to do the same in MGSV...

Ocelot even implies, "Rebuild that army of yours"...

Yup, I'm pretty sure he's lying.

Speaking of which, that scene has a good chance of being the very last one of the "Ground Zeroes" segment, right?
And the one where Punished Snake wakes up in the hospital and looks at his prosthetic arm has a good chance of being the first one of the main game, nine years later, right?
So the latter would be right after the former.
And they're both from a first person perspective.
-> Would make a lot of sense for them to both be from the same character's perspective.

The theory of Hayter having a surprise cameo / appearance as Solid Snake is dead. The Japanese version already cast the same actor they always do as Big Boss, and IF they would feature Solid Snake in anyway, Kiefer is going to voice him (or if he is too young when he appears, someone other than Hayter).

Hayter is done with this role. It hurts me more than most, but it's time to let it go.

I think the idea is that this time, you are the "bad guy", figuratively speaking, so we see the people you'll be hiring. They might fight you, but ultimately I'm guessing they all end up on BB's side. Except Skull Face (oh and maybe Quiet too, she does get tortured in the same place Kaz and Ocelot torture Huey).

I think XOF exists only to justify that BB would become head of FOX again. They might be a rogue organization that will need to be brought down by a rebuilt FOX with BB at the head.

Never said he was a bad actor.

His voice is fine in MGS1 and 2. In 3 he really starts to exaggerate it and in 4 it's just disgusting.

Also, he's an average actor. Nothing special. Kiefer is better, imo.

Biggest problem is, by the time MGS3 comes out, he's locked into that idea that the games are supposed to be campy and you can tell in his acting that there's not much seriousness there.

Kiefer voices this 100% seriously, I'm sure, which is the tone Kojima seems to want for this game.

He mentioned in an interview that he changed his voice along the games to accompany the tone changes in those games. It's a decision he made himself, I think.

Maybe there are never going to be any cut-away transitions (other than when there are time skips)? It might be justified by pretending that you are really re-watching someone's memories (heck, you could say the fastforward gameplay in the PP trailer is a hint of this too).

This would make sense if you are reliving memories: it's not a film, hence it's not edited. You are reliving moments that are connected pieces of people's memories, in one uniform whole.

Also about MG PO, it makes no sense that Kojima would not consider it cannon. Ocelot ends up with his part of the Philosopher's Legacy, and he tells Zero he wants Big Boss to join them to become The Patriots. This is pretty much confirmed in MGS4 that it did happen in some way.

Considering BB becomes the head of Fox Hound at some point, there has to be a point where he settles his score, at least officially, with Zero, and is no longer a wanted man. Otherwise he just couldn't go back to lead Fox.

Dude, this is Kojima we're talking about. Anything could happen at this point. Besides, MG already has the biggest clusterfuck as a story. Needlessly complicating things has become the hallmark of the series.

I'll admit Kojima stating that it was a joke reference about himself is a bit shaky and he could be lying, but then why lie that there is another character there? He could just have said there is another character we're just not talking about yet. But, I'll admit that it is still up in the air.

But as far as additional clones I think it is a pretty solid bet that there will not be any additional clones in MGSV and probably the rest of the MGS series. Allowing there to be more clones reduces the uniqueness and importance of Solid Snake. So I don't believe Kojima will ever want to introduce more clones into the story.

Also can we please give Kiefer a chance, yes we all love Hayter but let's just see how he does before we cast judgment on Mr. Bauer. And at least he is not replacing the voice of Solid Snake, this is Big Boss and at some point there was going to need to be a voice change. Now if there turns out to be a new game with Solid Snake or he makes an appearance in the game and ends up being voiced by Kiefer then we can all lose our shit.

There's a camera cut while Ocelot is talking to Snake. I think they're just trying to simulate the handheld camera filming style, but it's not something they're totally beholden to. The average cut is probably going to be pretty long, with lots of seamless moments, but they'll still use cuts when they feel the need to.
