Why do alot of people hate kanye?

This is precisely what I've been getting at
Click on any web article referencing kanye and you'll get some of the worst responses imaginable
Even here some people seem very spiteful

The vast, vast majority of negative comments I've read about him on mainstream sites (Yahoo, MSN, Entertainment Weekly, whatever) all have something to do with Kim Kardashian or her family. That... basically comes with the territory when you date a tabloid queen. You get a shit ton more of public exposure though, so you have to take the good with the bad.

Any other comment is the type that you hear for every other pop artist ("he sucks," "you couldn't pay me to listen to his music," "he's stupid," whatever). Why would let that get under your skin?

There are plenty of millionaires that are bigger dicks
Jordan for one
He doesn't get half the shit Ye gets
Sports are different I think. People are in awe of their athletic ability maybe.

I think there's still a perception from some that rappers are talentless hacks? Maybe? I dunno. I mean some popular rappers are hacks, but I certainly don't put Kanye in that category (even if he has released some shit).

(And that previous post was mostly joking, quoting I Am A God :P)

I think his appearance in things like the Hanes commercials and space jam helped people overlook or ignore his horrendous attitude
nah, a lot of people simply don't know about it. I bet if you shared some jordan stories with random people it would probably be the first they'd have heard of it.

I don't think he is. He just sounds inquisitive. Many people in this thread have been attacking him while talking about Kanye being classless in the same post. Pretty funny.

It's just jarring how people swallow up the tabloid BS and when he speaks on important things people overlook it

Are you guys insane?

Michael Jordan, boiled down, was/is numbers on a scoreboard and apparel. His sporting accomplishments were very well capitalized on with Nike shoes.

I googled 'Kanye West lyrics'
Clicked a song

I’m living in that 21st Century, doing something mean to it
Do it better than anybody you ever seen do it
Screams from the haters, got a nice ring to it
I guess every superhero need his theme music

And that isn't an aberration. More than than a couple of his songs have a lot to do with I... I... I...

Music is partly about the substance and people have opinions on it.

Kanye has 21 Grammies
1 behind U2

Why is Soler defending a guy so vehemently in this thread that he doesn't know in real life? For what reason? Did Kanye save your mother from a burning building?

I'm not judging his personal life nor attacking his character
He makes music I enjoy and I leave it at that
I'm questioning why others go a step further and attack him personally

When you're the greatest you don't have to tell everyone, nor do you feel compelled to.

Another difference between Michael Jordan and Kanye West.

You could say the same for the naysayers. Lets flip things around: Did Kanye throw your mother into a burning building?

You must not be into sports if you missed his arrogant HOF speech

Nah I paid attention to him when he was actually doing his craft, and he didn't say shit like I'm better than Oscar Robertson.

FYI so you don't have to google it, Oscar Robertson was a basketball player from the 60s who averaged a triple double.

grammies are an awful metric. A bunch of rich white people got together to give an award to a guy who prints them money? he must be super talented, there's no other explanation..../s

While he has examples of decent lyrics and execution (graduation, i'm just talking about the actual rapping here, not the music/production) and less than impressive lyrics and rapping (yeezus), the guy doesn't hold a candle the likes of mos def, nas etc. He's not weezy or lil john, i'll give him that, but it definitely leaves something to be desired.

On production, he brings things to the genre before others do, and for that I'll give him credit.

For people to see that, and then the persona he creates around it, it's easy to to see why those with a propensity to hate celebrities hate kanye....

Are you trying to prove that Kanye West's lyrics have no substance by selectively quoting lyrics from one of his most self-deprecating tracks...? Power is entirely about reflecting on and exaggerating the public perception of his ego and his internal conflict over that. The main sample is 21st Century Schizoid Man for a reason.

Who has Kanye said he's better than? I've not once heard him say this. In fact in a recent interview he exclaimed that he's the first one to bow down to someone when he believes they're better at something than him. His albums are a process that uses not only his talents but the talents of everyone he brings in on his projects. Kanye says he wants to be the greatest and compares himself to mj and steve jobs because that's what he strives to be. He wants to push himself to be as good as he can be. When you aspire to be great you look to role models. FYI for everyone who's said the man just recently turned egotistical watch some videos from him before his first album. He's always been this way and he's explained it before as partly a joke as well as a way to drive himself to be as good as he says he is. Very little people have done what Kanye has done in less than 10 years.

The problem with this comparison is that sports can be fairly objective. Stats, championships, etc. Easier to look back and see who was truly great.

Music is almost completely subjective. No matter who the artist is, you are going to have people saying "man, dude is cocky and yet his music blowz". Literally no musical artist is exempt from this because there's no way to objectively prove an artist is one of the greatest ever.

But like I said earlier, I'm not sure why it matters if Kanye is sort of a jerk. I don't interact with him face to face, and as far as I know he hasn't committed any heinous crimes, so who gives a fuck. Literally countless creative people over the years have been total assholes (some way worse than Kanye).

This is hilarious to me. Kanye has said this many times before. He'd agree with this sentiment completely.

I know who Oscar Robertson is

Teddy Riley has 2 and I have argued him being the greater music man. DeVante Swing has none but is an ultra talent.

Timing is huge.

The GRAMMY Awards are typically late to the party.

Hip-Hop rose to prominence about a decade before Kanye was on the scene. The establishment had time to catch up.

It is a some of the best selling and most popular music on this time and he has done good work and has been recognized for it.

I'm sure I could list artists or groups that have little mainstream awards you think are good.

Which is why this thread doesn't make much sense. If someone says, "He's an asshole and he makes shit music." someone will reply to that with, "No he doesn't/you're a hater/did Kanye piss in your cereal?" Me personally, with things I don't like, I'm just indifferent. Some people are slightly more passionate.

The only reason I'm even aware of Kanye is because of his controversial media stunts. I suspect people dislike him because of the controversy aspect. He makes decent pop-grade music.

I posed myself the same question after reading some vitriolic TMZ comments about his pole accident. Yes, the man is more contradictory then the Old Testament God, but whether or not you listen to his music, recognize the man is gifted.

Maybe that reference I picked at random could be explained but I hear enough by happenstance to know if I did a little google searching I could find some examples of what people have issues with. And I seriously doubt this is the extent of it.

god yall some broke boys. i don't even think some of you realize how flimsy and arbitrary your hate is.

He is an idiot who makes millions off of a worthless skill and is a dick . If the general public was smart enough to hold him accountable for his borderline retarded statements and his hissy fits, then he would be in the same line as Mel Gibson, not on top of the pop world.

Yikes
So much hatred for a man you so desperately envy

Have you ever listened to rap music?

Do you actually think this or did you just utilize the first line to set up your second? Because this doesn't come off as tag fishing at all.

What does it come off as? Deranged?
Why would anyone be so invested in someone* to the point of dismissing people's opinion of why they dont like him/her... IN a thread that asks exactly that same question. There's a difference between discussion/difference of opinions and dismissing the other party's opinion completely and shoving your own down their throat.

Which is why I came to the conclusion this is tag fishing, otherwise the OP has some issues to resolve.

edit:*That are not involved in their personal life.

I don't care about the "bragging". I'm more concerned about how overall shit these raps are.
He can do better

We're confused as to why a guy who comes across as an asshole is disliked? Odd. One would think that just comes with the territory.

what's up with all these rappers bragging nowadays and dating white women with big butts? back in the day when hip-hop was REAL nobody swaggered on their foes while disrespecting women, worshiping materialism or rhyming, i for one miss that golden era of some other genre

ugh, might as well just submit the rest of my enlightening post to pitchfork's op-ed before these elitist gaf-hop rapcars show up and wreck my thesis with science
