Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | June 2013 | Late Ports and Late Threads

It is normal. Relax.

Phew! Thanks :D

Now, on a completely unrelated topic. I was thinking about Type-0 being localized (I know, perhaps it's hopeless but I just want it that bad) and I remembered the size of the game on the PSP was above 3GB iirc. Wouldn't bringing it to the Vita with hi-res assets make it easily over the 4GB of space that Vita game cards have? Just wondering.

Drops mic and walks of stage to a roar of applause. Vita sells millions next day.

Yeah, that's my concern as well. Until bigger carts happen, at least.

Is there any reason the Vita even needs remote play to run DC universe? Why not simply make a Vita native version? If the PS3 can handle it, so can the Vita, presumably.

Oh, also...I got the Jak & Daxter Collection :( I feel like such a BUFFOON. It's downloading now. Maybe they'll patch it... :/ I'm just such a huge J&D fan and I never played Jak 2 and Jak 3 (I know about the different mechanics in those compared to THe Precursor Legacy). I just wish the first one would have a better framerate. Granted, I haven't played it yet, but from what everybody says it's not great.

playing final fantasy xiv (assuming it doesn't blow) quietly in bed with the girly sleepin is a system seller IMO

Too bad (unless they improved it) remote play even if you're two inches away from the system has wifi lag so bad it's nearly impossible to play anything that isn't a card game on it.

Nope. :/

These indies always creep up on us. We'll hear little to nothing and then one day there'll be a post on the PS Blog along the lines of "*Indie Game* releases on PS3/PS Vita this week/month!"

Expecting a post about Hotline Miami very soon, haha.

Seriously, between Hotline Miami, Luftrausers, Spelunky and the Walking Dead, I am gonna be in portable-budget gaming heaven over the next few months. Only ever played HM at a friend's and the first episode of WD, so lots to look forward to on dat OLED!

Umm...obviously they have improved it. Massively. Both the Vita and the PS4 are designed with Remote Play in mind, and PS4 has a dedicated hardware chip for decoding and compressing video for Remote Play streaming. In addition, the wifi chips in both the Vita and the PS4 are incredibly faster than in the PSP and PS3.

I don't know if it will reach Wii U levels (would be incredible if so), but it's going to be WAY WAY better than we've seen thus far.

I'll believe it when I see it. LittleBigPlanet's cross-controller used it and that seemed decent but the PSP titles I used that supported it ran so badly it wasn't worth bothering with. Infrastructure/over the internet or local it didn't matter. It had like a six second lag between pressing something on the system and the remote system actually doing it.

GOW HD on the PS3 worked just fine via remote play. Completely playable.

Nothing wrong with being cautious (I am too) but there is 100% chance that it will be WAY better than it was for the reasons I gave you. It just will be. I don't know the extent of playability it will have, although I'm optimistic since they are putting every non-Move non-camera-required game under it, but please don't judge it based off of the [admittedly] bad PSP-PS3 remote play.

Lies.
I did some of my Hard mode speed runs in SotC on my Vita.

The general impression I've heard is "disappointing, lazy port, still playable, still amazing games".

I don't know if it's a lazy port -- it might have been ill-advised due to the difficulty they had with the PS3 version, but I'm sure getting the PS3 version compacted down to run on Vita took enough effort to not be qualified as "lazy". :P

Yeah, fair point.

Jak HD Collection or MGS3 HD, VitaGAF?

I already own MGS3 for PS2 and 3DS but I want the Vita version now (for some reason).
I own all three Jak games as well but Jak 1 and 3 portable sounds amazing.

Can't comment on Metal Gear because I haven't played them yet, but I personally feel that Jak 2 and 3 really just aren't up to snuff versus 1. I've heard some comments that the games control worse, but honestly I hated the controls for any new mechanics in 2 and 3 (shooting etc.) already when they were on the PS2. Plus it doesn't really help when every gun is terrible to use besides the yellow one, which is hilariously broken via air spin>shoot.

I'm digging God Eater so far. Combat is good fun. Still struggling to grasp the deeper parts of the game. Bullet crafting looks intense.

So I played a bit of Jak 1 and Jak 2 on the collection. It's just...not a fantastic port. Framerate is sub 30 a lot of the time (Jak 2 seems to be further towards and more often at 30 so far), and there's an embarrassing framerate wobble effect when you manually adjust the camera in Jak 1. Doesn't seem to be the case on Jak 2, weirdly. That being said, sound is good, framerate is not at an unplayable level, and the games themselves are still great.

I can't outright say "Don't get this." like with R&C Full Frontal Assault, but I wouldn't exactly highly recommend it either. If you want to play these games, and you don't mind an unwieldy framerate that's never at a treacherous level, then get it. I'm not overly disappointed I ended up buying it. It's still a good game, and a lower framerate (that will HOPEFULLY get patched although it's doubtful) doesn't change that.

sigh. what's wrong with em ports these days :/
they need to patch both ports (esp RC FFA)

I just find it hard to understand why

This game runs at 20-25fps at sub-native resolution:

While this game runs at 30-45fps at native resolution, despite it being a port of a game on a more powerful platform:

I still want to reiterate, though, that J&D is such a good game that if you really want to play it and you don't have a better way to, it might be worth it.

Different engines. They are not going to rewrite a whole game just for a port, probably J&D engine took some advantage of the PS2 technology that's no available on the Vita.

Bloody hell the 1st screen looks so awful O______O

I've got some footage of Jak 1 up on my channel, it is a pretty average port but it is still playable none the less.

Also I can't wait for Danganronpa Reload and Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate.

Imo it could be a good game, i'm only annoyed by the near stuff.
But the regional cards are an interesting idea.

So Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate and Danganronpa 1+2 for the vita.

DAT Tecmo Koei / Spike Chunsoft support.
Daganronpa YES!
I loved dinasty warrios next, a really good game(still one of the best graphics-wise), toukiden seems to be good too(but i don't like the genre), so i guess there are good chances that warriors orochi 3 will be a good game too!

Phew! Thanks :D

I though of this too, but as you can see in the psp emulation thread it looks amazing even on very high resolutions, so it would not really need improvements...
Maybe square is only waiting for bigger cards
i don't have to do this to myself :'(

Man. That 5 bucks I donated being put into good use lol. Keep up the good work.

good god

that jak screenshot looks like how PSP games look on the Vita

ive never played a J&D game before, but i guess that streak will continue for now, atleast until theres another HD collection thats done better

That's either a poor set up on your end or just hyperbole, as I've fully played through a bunch of games via Remote Play with no issues whatsoever, as have many others. Have you tried fiddling with the quality controls? I'd expect things to be even better with PS4 as well - the 'enhanced' Remote Play games on PS3/Vita are pretty sweet.

he's using hyperbole but you've played through a BUNCH of remote play titles?

like what? fucking LAIR? Tokyo Jungle? High Stakes on the Vegas Strip: Poker Edition?

Sweet! Hopefully Warriors Orochi is the godly native res, 4xAA beauty that Dynasty Warriors was.

And hopefully it gets a western release, although I guess language isn't too much of a barrier in a Warriors game, haha.

Doesn't contradict what he said though. In any case, a bunch could be any number of games.

sure but its not proof the concept is even sound

if remote play was worth anything than actual developers that dont make crap games would surely have utilized it

but when the "best" game is something terrible like tokyo jungle or old ports of PS2 games, i question the worth even developers see in it

Yessssssssss.

Will be my most played game of all time calling it now. I was sure it was too late in the day for them to bother with a Vita port, I hoped maybe the eventual Orochi 4 would get a version instead. This is fantastic news, utterly fantastic.

Well, not in terms of the future health of the platform or selling it to potential customers heh, but I am pretty happy about it.
