Fighting Games Weekly | June 17-23 | Nintendoes what Capcan't

I'm pretty sure Tekken Card Tournament was the testing ground for this stuff since it has almost the exact same f2p model, I would assume that did ok for them since they decided to use it. Other than that it's obviously an experiment that will evolve over time based on feedback.
Well, that's my main beef: they took a basic F2P model and applied it to the fighting game genre without thinking about it twice. It's obvious it needs adaptations to work.

Also, for the records, they outsourced Tekken Card Tournament to a french company, C4M.
I have a friend working there, I'll have to ask him one day how much liberty they had on the project.

TR getting a training mode is a great thing.

Offline VS is more important though.

I wouldn't even mind if they charged a small fee for offline VS. I'd happily pay £4 or £5 for the functionality.
Wait, can you play against someone right next to you at all? Even if your both connected online?

Tell Harada, I think he has shown by now that he listens to feedback.

MvC3 patch was just one example out of many.

I can't type much but if thanking a developer for bettering a F2Pexperience with extra free content is looked down on, then people need to clearly set their priorities straight. If this was a game I paid money for, then I had the right to complain. I personally don't like Tekken Revolution much either but I'm not going to complain about free content. This game was announced like 3 days before its actual release. No shit it's not going to be complete. They are responding to fan requests and hinted at many future updates to keep the game growing and that's what they are doing.

This is where we don't agree: it's not about "bettering a F2P experience", but making it like it should have been from the start.
Like everyone was saying it should be when it was announced.

It's a good thing they finally realised it, but I won't thank them for doing the obvious.

VF5FS is 400MS on XBLA.

actually Tekken Revolution is quite fun...hence tekken fans streaming it daily on twitch. People who thought it was just gonna be static and never change after release are just dumb. Of course they were going to add training and the thing is barely monetized yet. Lots of F2P games have beta stages and are added to from there--that's what they're doing here. They're collecting feedback on what to add next. For now, it's free, new Tekken...not the best Tekken game in the world, but not the war crime it's made out to be by any means. The whole "never forgive" attitude that people seem to have on gaf is way annoying.

Harada, apologize for having the very first F2P fighting game not perfect on launch, or you can kiss your business goodbye.

Tekken Rev was a low-cost way to make some more money of the Tekken engine, perhaps test how well nickel-and-diming would work, and a test for some balance changes.

A game that is designed for F2P from the ground up has to have as part of its design making you miserable/waste time grinding in order to encourage paying money. This is why I avoid all such games unless absolutely necessary.

The one thing I ever bought in F2P was a backburner after I accidentally crafted mine in TF2. That's it.

What does MvC3 have anything to do with an obviously broken F2P game model that caters neither to the fans nor the beginners of the franchise?
And I don't even like MvC3...

It's clear that they rushed TR out, and are only now starting to think about how they could make it work.

It doesn't have anything to do with Marvel. I think some Tekken people are sensitive.

But I don't understand how anyone can call a free game with an established engine rushed. It isn't perfect, but the core gameplay is there. It teaches new players to see certain critical moves and to not just mash buttons. It allows older players a new twist on the gameplay.

I would understand of they threw a broken mess out and told everyone to be happy with it. But they hardly even hyped the game, released a polished product, and are looking at fan feedback to make future decisions.

Edit: I guess my phone was on an old page

This game isn't really set up to make any money yet. Even if you lose, you can get like an hour of play out of the daily coin allotment. Then you get 4 premium tix for $1, which is a lot if you can win matches and hang on to them.

Maybe they are hoping people who suck will just keep buying premium tix? We all know how that will turn out--most people quit fighters as soon as things stop going their way and don't ever try to get better.

Just because a game is F2P doesn't mean it is exempt from criticism of the monetization model or featureset. Nor is saying that a free training mode that is to be expected is spitting on Harada's grave or not giving them the benefit of the doubt or something. Marvel Heroes just launched recently and it's an incomplete platform too. Most F2P games are, they add value throughout their lifetime and that is where the appeal is, it's the new way to do a rolling beta. And though I'm enjoying it ATM, that doesn't mean I can't be critical of the way they choose to make money off of it, or how there wasn't even a trade system implemented at launch.

If training mode was for-pay, that would certainly make people go up in arms over that shit. If not, cool, but let's not parade down the streets because it is that way.

Well we all know American fighting games are more innovative than anything the japanese have done

I'm more of a Mace: The Dark Age kind of guy

ZTS if you are here please leave at once.

In a way I'm kind of disappointed that F2P Tekken is getting a training mode since having to learn shit the old school arcade way has a certain appeal to it and comes with benefits. But yeah, having training mode is probably a good thing.

Europe wants to run a 10v10 against the US in AE at EVO. They made a concept trailer

That would be awesome. I have a lot of respect for EU SF4. I'd love to see a 10v10 against the US.
include japan too plz

This is the last weekend to relax before the schedule picks up.

Starting next week we got

CEO
CM West Coast
EVO
VxG/SDCC

Southeast Asia Majors is going on this weekend. A couple of good US players like Justin and Ricky will be there along with a ton of good Asian players. I'm pretty sure there are a couple of Japanese players who will be at SEA but won't be at Evo.

I'd love to see that. With so many Japanese there, why no throw them in as well. But I figure they may not be as willing to participate(not all of them anyways) for whatever reason.

Also FGC-GAF, today is my birthday and I am a man now. I think I'm going to go out and buy Tekken to commemorate this occasion.

Is SEA Majors being streamed? If so, details?

Happy B-day enzo. And SEA majors should be streamed on the "Tough Cookie" channel.

Another year of your reactions going downhill, time to stop playing Marvel!! ;P

Happy Birthday Enzo.
You should play Marvel today, every time one of your characters dies take a shot.
Shit, if I have a job and am married, do I have to play Tekken?
Hahaha! I hope not or else I'll have to start playing Tekken in August.
I already have a job...

Anyone have a link to the entire Marn v. Noel set or do I have to go with archives for now?

Hold up, Enzo's younger than me? Dunno why this is so weird but it is.

Congrats though.

Happy birthday, Enzo. I thought you meant something else by "I am a man now" and was weirded out by the strangely personal comment!

Thanks for the wishes everyone!

21 right? Happy bday.

It's all downhill from here
Yup! and D;

Everyone gets surprised when I mention my age on GAF, I suppose that's supposed to be a good thing? #BountifulYouth

If it's your birthday you have to punch two people at the same time.
I see what you did there.

Also OP updated with Final Strike, Bar Battles V and SEAM 2013. I think SEAM 2013 is the last International EVO qualifier, though over the course of the past few months there have been a lot that weren't listed on the original announcement, so who knows.
