Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | June 2013 | Late Ports and Late Threads

Everyone has at least one person on their Near with that fucking Crash avatar, lol.

Yep, shame that Crash is no longer viable for Sony and was milked dry by Activision.

People use Near!?

I would if I could exchange Black Market trades with people over PSN since no one is playing Uncharted often enough locally to make it possible to get all fetishes

Same, I'm dreading the Uncharted NEAR stuff although I remember people saying you can get it all solo? (it's just harder?)

YES!!!!!!!!!!!! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! FINALLY US AMERICANS CAN FARM DIGITALLY ON VITA!!!

I'd use it if more places around me had free Wifi.

So true. Is there a way to change your avatar to a paid avatar without going on the PS3?

My work has free wifi, so I'm trying to check in every time I come in to work every morning.

Also no, there is no way to change your avatar remotely on Vita, a HUGE gripe of mine and infuriating for Vita only players I can imagine. Actually I went to double check but, I'm sure some of you guys mentioned this before but you can change your avatar remotely on Vita, the problem is you can't use all the cool new non-free avatars that are only available+accessible with a PS3. So, you're stuck with the random free ones that Sony offers if you only own a Vita. Still, it's baffling how Sony hasn't even addressed this yet.

I tried it for the first time last night, never really felt the need to all this time for some reason. It's kinda neat, I was shocked at how many people were nearby. Does it share your exact location with anyone though? It's...A bit specific, especially when you bring up the google map thing.

That said, I fucking love Toro's Friend Network. That shit rules. I wish the Twitter lobby would work though :\

I still haven't really tried Toro's Network yet. That shit should have been available since launch and preinstalled on each and every Vita as a Vita equivalent to StreetPass, but noooooooooo that would make too much sense.

Edit: TOP OF PAGE - Buy DJMAX, Persona 4, Farming Simulator, Muramasa ... and EDF Portable.

I'm trying to get into the habit of using NEAR more often as I go out.

It's actually pretty fun, it's not as involved as streetpass (with the miis and such), plus you don't collect people like you do with streetpass, but I just got a friend request from someone I randomly met via NEAR today:

As Vita bros/cats/muffins, we should all chip in to populate the digital geocaches with our NEAR check ins.

i too have been trying to use it more. actually put in a concerted effort to figure it out and understand how and why it all works.

i still can't find a reason though to use it... i mean maybe meeting/friending someone in the area to play adhoc, treasures are randomly given by the people around you, and just seeing what people are playing/using.

anything else?

I'm really hoping that Hotline Miami is touched by the Vita Gods much like Retro City Rampage was.

I couldn't standing playing it on the computer, but the Vita raises all ships.

Do not dare mention Hotline Miami and that other pile of flaming hot garbage in the same breath, please.

Hotline Miami had a great soundtrack don't get me wrong!

Otherwise it was a kinda mediocre puzzler. Don't get me started on the story. :(

I understand WHY people like it, I just couldn't really enjoy it.

I need to get a $50 card so i can buy Muramasa and maybe Hotline Miami on Tuesday.

I'm not the biggest fan, but there is something satisfying to the brutality of it for me. Especially once you die and start getting frustrated and then have a good run.
It's better with a controller than a keyboard and mouse for me.
I didn't care for the story -- too ... something...

But I might support it if the port is good. Especially with cross-buy. Even more so if it's got a PS+ discount.

Now that other pile of trash you mentioned? I will never give that game a single cent. Ever. One of the worst things I've ever played.
I was on vacation and went out and searched for PSN cards so I could buy it. I got the cards, I got the demo and I was like "holy fuck, after all that effort, I didn't even need the cards because I won't buy this glorified overhyped POS."
Then Sorny gave it to me for free.
And I still won't play it.

I know some of you don't have a ps3, but for those who do (and own LBP2), do yourself a favor and pick up the LBP2 cross-controller pack DLC. It's awesome, and really shows off the utility of the vita as an off-screen counterpart. There's absolutely no lag. Really, I'd say it rivals the wii u setup (minus the tactile feedback, obviously). On sale in NA store.

Thanks for the reminder, just bought it.

I wonder if I'll like Hotline Miami. I know it's a really well-liked game, and I've seen some footage, but I can't really tell if I'll like it.

While you dweebs are out playing Snoresline Snoozami, all the cool kids will be playing next week's real release: Farming Simulator 2013.

If I can justify paying a $9 Button Tax..

Well, after playing the demo for SS I decided on DJ Max. I wouldn't have bought it with my own money but since this was a gift, I might as well. And God Eater fulfills my monster hunting needs so far.

DJMax is a great game, but it falls a little short of the previous entries. Mainly because the core gameplay doesn't reach it's potential due to the Vita's screen size. But this problem doesn't really come into play unless you've gotten really good at the game. Have fun!

Be sure to pick up Soul Sacrifice eventually though, it is a great hunting game.

Hotline Miami AND Muramasa on the same day?
Hush now, my crying wallet. It will be worth it, I promise you.

Whoa. :O
Mind elaborating on that?

While it certainly wasn't what I would call "good", nothing stood out to me as horrible during the times I played it.

I found the humour to be lacking (which a lot of people seem to say is the saving grace) and the nostalgia didn't click. I found the entire aesthetic to be appalling. Then I got to the "gameplay". I was basically hoping for an 8-bit take on the classic GTA/GTA2. But it didn't feel or play anything like that. I tried to play it for a bit, but I couldn't stomach more than 15 minutes or so before I decided I wanted to throw my Vita in the trash. Instead of doing that though, I remembered I hadn't paid any money for the nightmare I'd just experienced and promptly deleted it off my card. 2-4 months later, it was free on PS+.

Soul Sacrifice is one of the most unique and worthwhile games on the Vita right now. Sorry.

So to be clear, only people around you using Near can see your location? I added some random people for the Toro game and I'm wondering if they can see where I've been with Near or do they also only see "Last Encountered -- -- --", etc. People on your friends list can't see unless they've been in the same area right?

Well personally I'd say God Eater is bit better than Soul Sacrifice but i enjoyed both greatly.

Wow, this rear touch stuff for DJ Max is stupid. Still fun, but damn why they gotta do it like that

Thank God I can switch to touch only and no rear.

So is both Ninja Gaiden games on Vita worth it folks?

Goddamn I need to stop pouring money to increase my backlog ;_____________;

NGS+ is a solid good port (yes even with 30fps), I'll say get it if you didn't played NGB or Sigma on PS3.

NGS2+ not so much performance made it unplayable(also low res).

No ninja gaiden game is worth it. Awful games all around.

NGB is still the best game in the genre. it is a fact.

and Itakagi's NG combat system is still unmatched. it is also a fact.

One of the biggest reasons for my regret is I do not seem able to find a comfortable way of playing it. Especially when rear touch is added to the mix.

Kind of wish it's button-based instead of touch based.

First one yes
Second there's some mixed opinions

If you can stomach 30fps with some dips, the first one is.
The second one, by all accounts, is a terrible terrible port.

Wow... the 2nd one was really that bad...?

I am not in the EU, and not even a PS+ member :)

Ouch. I can get why you'd think that way. :/
I'll be going into Hotline Miami blind, so hopefully it doesn't disappoint.

NGS+ is definitely worth it IMO. It looks and plays great.
NGS2+ is more fun and less difficult, but it runs at sub-native res and the framerate drops more.
Both have a great amount of content for single-player games. Getting the second really depends on where your priorities are in regards to portable action games.

EDIT:
Wow... the 2nd one was really that bad...?

I wouldn't say it was bad. It just compared unfavorably to Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus.
It's still an adequate port - much more so than the Jak and Daxter HD Collection or Rachet and Clank.

Keep in mind that if you're a trophy whore that the Platinum for NGS2+ is basically impossible. Unless you're the god of action games.

They're a mixed bag. The first game looks very nice, and runs at a pretty constant 30 fps. However...something is off about the controls. I don't know if I want to call it input lag, but the movement controls are iffy

The second game controls a lot better, but the framerate is less consistent and the resolution is also lower. It's not unplayable though - not at all. I'd honestly say I prefer the second port, despite its issues, because it doesn't have the weird control issues of the first game.

Really though, there are far worse ports out there. Both games are good for what they are. Even though they run at half the framerate of the original versions, they are fantastic games in their own right.

Average versions of some very good games.

I'd say god of wars combat system surpassed it.

From everything I've seen, I would put J&D collection above NGS2+.

Ah, nice catch. Didn't mean to say "much more so" in regards to the Jak and Daxter Collection. :b
Overall I can see why some would prefer J&D. I got to try it at a friend's place today and it played better than I expected, but the IQ was just weird.

Speaking of performance, Hotline Miami and Muramasa are both 60fps, right?

EDIT:

C'mon, man, you can't just post stuff like that without saying why. :b

Fo' real. I've played lots of action games: DMC new and old, Bayonetta, GoW, other half action games like Darksiders, Guild Wars 2 etc. and of all of them Ninja Gaiden Black/Sigma/1 is the one I enjoy the most by FAR.

I think in a thread around 3's re-release someone made a really good point as to how Black/Sigma is unique from both later entries in the series and other action games, the key point being in NG the object is to survive, not "win", in other action games you're pretty OP compared to the enemies and most exist to be styled upon by you the player. Whereas in NG the enemies are highly aggressive and 1 I believe had the least amount of BS versus the other games especially 3.

Yup! It will be nice to have that after all of the low-framerate games this week.

Is Silent Hill seriously that good? The Dark Souls comparison earlier piqued my interest.

The demon's souls similarities are only those:
-it's mostly hard
-pre patch:
when you die you need to redo everything since the last save game(there's only a save point per dungeon and dungeons can be veeeeery huge) or the beginning of the dungeon.
-post patch:
when you die you don't lose your progress and you respawn at the beginning of the level or at the savepoint, but you need to retrieve your items(medikits, keys, ammo etc, but not all! For example if you had 5 medikits you will get no more than 2) where you died. I assure you that this doesn't make things easier at all, on later levels it makes the game even harder!

I think that the best way to describe it is that it puts monsters, atmosphere, locations, story, psychology, number of items and combats from a survival horror in randomly generated dungeons, adding some rpg elements.
The game is absolutely neither scary(well not even modern survival horrors are lol) nor full of items or weapons(unlike a dungeon crawler, infact the amount of items you can carry is very limited, and weapons are breakable too), there are not many enemies types but they are very different, there are no similar monsters, your actions decide the destiny of certain people.

The game has some faults, it's "unique" and it can be very hard(if not impossible) if not well equipped and if you don't plan what to do, so it's absolutely not for everyone, i loved it though.
