Is there a way to strafe using the keyboard controls? Can't find a way to adjust it so A ans D make you strafe instead of turn.

Ah, wish I could join that Free Company but my character is on Shiva (EU). Don't really feel like starting over I think.

Did my first instanced dungeon with a group of four. Was quite fun :)

It's funny, but it's almost like the person localizing the script reads Song of Ice and Fire.

When I read someone exclaiming "seven hells" I burst out laughing.

I have a friend who wants a PS3 beta code. Is it too late for her to retrieve one?

My legacy character is intact. Monk animations are quite nice for the new attacks. I haven't tried my 38 BLM out yet though. Not having access to my GC gear kindas though though >_>

How do you select your legacy character, I only see my beta character there :O

Edit: lol nvm, I'm blind!

So what's the goal of the pugilist class? I've been playing it for a while and I'm level 8 and I don't know what I'm supposed to be aiming for. It doesn't seem like I do much damage like my gladiator did at lvl 8, so is he about speed or something? I'm testing various classes so I have like 6 different characters right now, so far I've tested Puglist, gladiator, conjurer, and archer.

So far this is my ranking of most fun from these 4
Archer > Gladiator > Puglist > Conjurer

Forgive the drive-by here, but does XIV have something like SAM which manages TP and facilitates skillchains? My favorite thing about playing XI was my Taru SAM/WAR :p

I think making Sprint always active in sanctuaries (Cities and the like) would improve this significantly. On the field it has a penalty for a reason, but there's no need for it in cities.

Or at least up the exp a little (I mean it's a beta afterall!) if you're going to have us travel 2-10 mins to get 50-100 EXP. :/

But the cities have that CrystalNet or whatever fast travel system. I'm more talking the open world where you have to hoof it just to get to a quest and then hoof it 180'd through your hoofing area to a new area to hoof it and dodge enemies to another area.

The quest design doesn't need to be a line, but it does need to be "travel"-y and some quests should be in the same area with 4-5 others.

I'm starting to get quests that are bunched up (good) but some that are outliers despite being started in the same area (bad).

Nothing really works like SAM. Weapon skills are readily available and there are no skillchains (although there are combos which you could argue are like solo skillchains). Lancer does get a Meditate-like ability, but ultimately TP works like MP.

For people on other legacy servers, they just announced they are taking server transfers on the lodestone.

Are they not planning on included skill chains at all for parties? That was one of the best parts of combat. Skill chain combo into a magic burst attack. Esp when you'd use a long cast blm spell like freeze or quake.

Edit: I guess the closest thing right now are limit breaks in dungeons I suppose, but I haven't seen any party combos yet.

As of right now, no. Yes, it is a shame.

There is a "Limit Break" mechanic, but that does not replace skillchains/magic bursts at all. It is more like you build up a meter for playing like you would normally (take damage, heal damage, deal damage, etc), then one player gets to activate a special ability tied to his role (tank, healer, etc).

There was the "battle regimen" mechanic way back in the earlier versions of FFXIV 1.0 which did replace skillchains, but it wasn't all too relevant to how people played (it controlled poorly, but so did everything else at that point in the game) and they eventually removed it.

I didn't realize the games were this different, but I haven't had the opportunity to try it yet. Thanks, I'll have to find time to do some reading before August.

Can someone explain what a Free Company is? Is it like a guild where you are a group of people? Isn't it like a Party then?

Also, I don't have access to it in the menu, why is that?

From my post on the previous page:

Linkshell is just a chat channel. Free Company is a guild. It has ranks, permissions, a higher member limit, etc. FCs will also have guild housing, guild bank, and more at launch. I believe they are planning housing furniture and things that will add guild buffs too.

It should be on your menu. It's the icon with the little dots all grouped together. The default Keyboard shortcut is semi-colon. You may not be able to access anything if you're not currently in one.

I think I'm missing something. I'm trying to play around with my HUD. Everything in the UI can be moved around except for the chatbox. Is that locked in at the bottom left corner or can I, for example, swoosh the whole thing to the bottom middle? I don't see an option for it anywhere.

This is PS3 version? How did you take screenshots? I tried with a keyboard and could not take =(

On PC at least, print screen will take a screenshot. You can toggle the UI elements with scroll lock.

[EDIT: shit, sorry, somehow I completely glossed over the start of that sentence where you mention PS3. My apologies.]

Screenshots will be saved in blah.blah.Documents > My Games > FFXIV > Screenshots.

For some reason my MSI Afterburner isn't taking screenshots with this game. It isn't playing nice with it at all in fact with any of the overlay stuff.

Some new screen from Brayflox's Longstop lvl 35 dungeon in Eastern Limsa. We got beat pretty bad considering it drops your level when you go in. The boss is the same one from the trailer in the forest that flies away at the end. The boss is the Yellow Pelican and he basically spawns minions that come faster and faster as his health drops it's pretty tough.

SO far today the servers are doing fine and no lag ...

No line for quests too ..glad this was fixed.

Too bad there doesn't seems to have as many people as last week but that may be because we are friday.

Have a character on Ultros as well, Meia Gisborne. Wouldn't mind an invite to whatever is happening, new to the FF MMO idea.

I'll be on there after work in a couple hours and hopefully all the other office-dwellers too! Definitely looking to do more group/linkshell activities this time around. Last weekend I played solo the entire time.

This game needs a group finder tool something bad. It's almost impossible to find groups for dungeons because its hard to find a healer or tank.

My game just crashed for some reason, but I guess its for the best since I should be heading out now.

Gotta figure out a good cross hotbar layout for all these actions lol.

Still cant wait to add some more stuff to my legacy appearance...and gotta recover my extra stuff.

Just got done playing as a lancer, it was pretty fun. Not as fun as Gladiator but pretty neat. So here's my updated rankings of fun classes so far with Lancer added. Just to let people know I level each class up to lvl 8 so I have at least 5 of their skills, and see which one was the funnest to level up to that point and onward.

Archer > Gladiator > Lancer > Puglist > Conjurer

I only have to play as Marauder and the black mage (forgot name) next and I'll have a complete ranking of the classes I think are the funnest. So far Archer is way up there and I might continue with him.

Not really bothered by having to do tutorial quests since not everyone will play the beta, legacy or not. It just feels strange to us since we've gone through them every beta phase.

I kind of wish that you could set the cross hotbar to have some sort of action description pop up the first time you press the button, then confirm the action the second time. Cant shake the feeling that i'll end up activating the wrong action in the heat of a fight lol.

So as legacy I have to do all the quests again to be able to use anything? Might as well just continue beta with new Character I made last week...

Hmmm... I can't play, it won't let me update the client (from last week).

Edit: Problem solved - had to delete the folder "FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn (Beta Version)" in 'My Documents → My Games'

Um..not really, you can change class like at level 3 in some subquest I think. Then you only have to do main quests if you want (for example, to use GC gear or at least I hope is what I need to be able to use it).

Since I want to hold off from using the mage class until Phase 4, I am thinking about creating a midget marauder (if it's possible). It'll be as hilarious like having a gnome warrior in WoW. It's a class that I wouldn't typically touch, but if my characters are going to be wiped, I might as well experiment!

Plus I want to wait for my Sony Elite headset to come in through the mail before continuing on Last of Us.

How can one complete a class? =/ I thought we could just level up to some some high level. How far does the beta go?

And why don't I ever see anyone ride chocobos in Gridania?

I just got done with the black mage now and I didn't like it. Maybe I'm not a magic person but it was really underwhelming for me. The cast times for my spells were pretty slow, my spells were really weak because it took almost my whole arsenal to kill a single enemy, and my spells kept getting interrupted because the enemies would move or I would accidentally move.

My updated funnest class list:
Archer > Gladiator > Lancer > Puglist > Conjurer > Thaumaturge

I can't believe I'm putting a black mage below a white mage, but I really had no fun with the class. I thought the white mage was at least a little bit funner to play since I was busy buffing and casting spells. My final class is the marauder and I'll be done with my list.
