Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS: Info Collection - Dojo, Mega Man and Trailer! 2014!

Good question. Why would a man with a crippling arm condition spend two years making a fighting game for himself? A question for the philosophers.

holy shit drop it, it was confirmed that was a quote from brawl posts ago. why are we even continuing arguing about this

I can play that game as well.

Why would he be so adamant on shunning off fans of Melee and referring to them as a niche audience and incorporate random variables that pleases no one like tripping if he was really concerned with what people thought?

Oh, someone was using it as an example of why they thought a feature wouldn't be in SSB4, wires crossed I guess.

Because I guess he is a truly evil man. And will not stop until the atrocity known as Melee is wiped from history?

On the contrary, I was using your rude way of responding to me to illustrate a point. If you're going to respond to someone like that out of the blue, then don't expect a well thought out response in return.

Like really, I poured hours and hours into Brawl, I don't think it's a awful game (not that it even matters for this discussion), but a lot of the things Sakurai has said in the past few years regarding Smash I find silly. You don't agree? That's fine.

I don't think it'd matter anyways, since he changed his mind it seems.

Sakurai doesn't compete with Araki. Hah. :P

Much rather have Growlmon.

Are we enemies?

Like I said, Sakurai is probably a semi-vampire unlike Pillar Man Araki. :P

Also what about muscle Growlmon :x

He was right to not include leaderboards. Anytime you have public leaderboards, it's usually just a smorgasbord of modders and cheaters at the top, defeating the point of leaderboards.

Some people just like to be upset I guess.

Did they found way to hack Wii U right? I meant TvC leaderboard was hacked, right? I'm not sure what exactly happened with that game.

I don't know about the TvC case, but I haven't heard of any significant Wii U hacks. Concerning leaderboards, hackers will be a problem but I have to imagine there are measures to prevent them, especially if developers are serious about maintaining the sanctity of the rankings.

Even so, it's fun to compare different stats with one's friends in ANY game. It doesn't have to be all about reaching for the top and having some people "feel bad" because they won't get there.

Leaderboards for HRC, Multi-Man x (whatever they call it in this game), Break the Targets, and so on would be heavily beneficial.

And no guys, the Wii U hasn't had any homebrew capability yet so you don't have to worry about anyone using codes to cheat leaderboards. BUT that doesn't mean people won't try to find ways to cheat it like in some games on the PS3 and such (such as Uncharted 3's leaderboards).

Yeah, that's true. Right now, I don't really care about leaderboard but I'm really concerned that it might encouraging more hackers to cheat online on random matches if they found a way to hacked Wii U. I remembered those day that Mario Kart Wii was pretty bad with cheaters/hackers, but I rarely see them nowadays.

Why so defensive and hyperbolic?

Nobody has ever wanted this ever. Stop making strawmen.

I don't feel like I ever see Brawl's deriders mischaracterize other posters' arguments to the extent its most ardent defenders do; they might bash Sakurai or question his methodology, but some defenders make it way too personal, like a part of themselves is being criticized or critiqued.

Eh, I don't feel either side represents themselves well in the debate. Both sides of the argument aren't talking to each other, merely talking at each other now a days. Both sides have their strawmen both sides can't come to a agreed upon definition of terms. Its just really a dead end conversation at this point.

*edit* to not come off like a jerk

I agree. Having a ranked mode and leaderboards would be shitty. Everyone complains about online play and hackers yet I don't see why they keep asking for this crap.

Is it bad that I want Raichu? We had Pichu in Melee, don't see why another clone or partial clone of Pikachu can't be in the new one.

He's not the most outlandish request at least, though he's so irrelevant to the series at this point that he's got next to no chance.

It's okay to have your wish characters but chance of that happening is slim. I'm sure that it applied same thing for my wish characters, Takamaru, Palutena, Duck Hunt Dog and many more.

design a system that punishes hackers.

You can also hack an xbox 360 and a ps3, I rarely run into hackers online when I play fighting games, let alone anything.

If Smash 4 is going to be like 64's physics then sign me in!

Considering how they pretty much demonize Sakurai since Brawl for including tripping, I think it's fitting. Yeah tripping terribad but somehow they think Sakurai is the devil.

Why not have global and friends leaderboards? That way, you can still feel like the best of your friends but in addition you have a realistic worldview. If you rank high worldwide, you will be able to know your rank is well earned and if you're not ranked high, you can be humbled, knowing you still have room to grow

Call me crazy, but I hope they do another Adventure mode in the vein of Subspace Emissary. Sure it had some issues, but I think it really did well to tie everything all together. SSB is very much a love letter (and an encyclopedia) to Nintendo lore, and I think the adventure mode essentially put a nice bow on it. Plus it's great from a fan's perspective to see all these characters interact with each other during the cutscenes, which had a ton of personality and fun humor.

I think they can improve it by not making it mandatory to unlock characters. If players want to go through the adventure mode to unlock characters, they still can -- but if people don't, then there should be other options.
