I just found out Falco is actually this bird called a pheasant

Made me chuckle XD

Call me crazy, but I hope they do another Adventure mode in the vein of Subspace Emissary. Sure it had some issues, but I think it really did well to tie everything all together. SSB is very much a love letter (and an encyclopedia) to Nintendo lore, and I think the adventure mode essentially put a nice bow on it. Plus it's great from a fan's perspective to see all these characters interact with each other during the cutscenes, which had a ton of personality and fun humor.

I think they can improve it by not making it mandatory to unlock characters. If players want to go through the adventure mode to unlock characters, they still can -- but if people don't, then there should be other options.

Sakurai already said that the adventure mode won't be like SSE. There will be character CG movies, like the ones we already saw for Wii Fit Trainer and Villager, and they will be unlocked from the start.

Why are people talking about a leader board comment he said about brawl FIVE years ago like he was talking about SSB 4?

What has he said about leaderboards for SSB4?

Sakurai already said that the adventure mode won't be like SSE. There will be character CG movies, like for Wii Fit Trainer and Villager, and they will be unlocked from the start.

He never detailed further what adventure/single-player mode would be like though.

It wasn't. You could unlock all characters in different ways. The only characters I unlocked in SSE were R.O.B, Toon Link, Jigglypuff, and Wolf.

Fighting games need to pull a Rock Band and just have a code that's widely known to "unlock all characters" but it disables achievements/saving/whatever that way you can have the best of both worlds: Have multiplayer easily available with all content without affecting single player content.

If they bring back adventure mode, that's the first thing I'm going to do when SSB4 comes out.

So I tried Project M for the first time.

S'alright I guess. Missing Snake's second grenade, and the knife instead of an RPG is dumb.

I thought it was cool. The combos are really nice to have back, but the controls didn't feel as tight as Brawl.

I liked the stages and stuff too, it was fun seeing some of the fun, creative tweaks the modding community added.

What's exactly buffer window? I'm not well versed in these terms I often hear about from these games.

The amount of time in which you can cancel a move into another. Usually involves performing a normal move and buffering the movements of a special move during the startup or active frames of the normal move so that the normal move cancels into the special move creating a combo. Applies differently to different fighting games; not sure how it applies to Smash.

It's shit like this that put me off on Project M.

Yeah, I was interested when they were talking about things like adding moves to the Pokemon in order to turn them into true separate characters, but when they went and turned them into something else entirely it seemed like it was missing the point.

Does anyone really, really care about Ice Climbers? IIRC the game was thoroughly mediocre.

I care. I like to climb ice.

for example, nobody cares right now about, let's say... The dog from Duck Hunt... but if in any weird way he manages to get in the brawl, a lot of people would be like OMG! AWESOME!!!

Duck Hunt Dog is actually one of my most desired newcomers.

Yoshi has a unique Shield, Fox and Falco have unique winning conversations, nothing new.

Wolf too... but for some odd reason Sakurai thinks it should apply to Falco too.

Hey Sakurai, I know you added Wolf but he's only obsessed with Fox, not Star Fox!

Exactly. It turned into some weird fandom circle-jerk project.

I like how Mega Man is the only character to get a unique death animation for some reason.

Same here. It felt so right, and I think they did same thing for Zero in MVC3.

Same here. Duck Hunt Dog have been one of my most desired newcomer ever since Pre-Brawl Hype.

I seriously doubt that Sakurai will ever though of him.

If Sakurai thought of the Wii Fit Trainer, Sakurai can think of the Duck Hunt Dog, I think it's been everyone's dream to beat the shit out of him for laughing at us.

Have there been any supposed leaks apart from the Little Mac / Mii / Pac-Man rumor? Looking back at old pre-Brawl and pre-Melee threads, it's surprising how many of the leaks that were heavily scoffed at were actually true. I'd like to take a closer look this time around, of course with a healthy amount of skepticism.

I'm sure that Sakurai can think of moveset for Duck Hunt Dog, but would he think of that character. I'm not sure about Japanese players' stance on Duck Hunt, the game itself.

Well, there are some leaks happened like few months before the game's release date. I think that our leak (Pac-Man, Little Mac and Mii) was one of first earlier leak ever happened if it's real.

He will be an Assist Trophy whose only action is laughing at you while you try in vain to injure him.

I'm... wat.

This is like the people who call GAF a hivemind. >_>

I agree that the statement you quoted is hyperbole but you can't deny that overall, many people seem much more skeptical than would warrant.

People are constantly worried about the online modes when most Nintendo games since the release of Brawl have had good to excellent online features including Kid Icarus Uprising, Sakurai's MOST RECENT game.

People are bringing up quotes to try to question the soundness of this judgement but those quotes are FIVE years old. He may have made mistakes in the past that doesn't mean he can't do better in the future.

People are worried about balance issues given Brawl's despite the fact that we know, from his own words, that he isn't doing the balancing by himself anymore and that he has SHOWN us changes to the characters with an eye to balance (see Bowser's redone speed and moveset).

People insist that Melee was some kind of accident and that he can't approach its quality despite the fact that he has demonstrated high competency at fighting games and all the changes for Brawl are ones he's explained and are deliberate. Yes, I didn't like some of those changes as well but he had a plan, he wasn't just throwing darts at a board. In fact literally everything he's said about the design of this entry of the series should move it closer to Melee in terms of game design than Brawl ever was.

I dunno, I just feel like some people can't let go of the past. He certainly deserves criticism but I haven't seen or heard anything about this this latest entry that makes me worried. Maybe politely tweet him or post on the Miiverse your concerns/suggestions but otherwise I'd wait till we actually see worrying shit before we start blasting him.

For people who got involved with prediction contest. I just updated the leaderboard. Looking forward to see what changed after couple of reveals.
