I'm just venting because the mount is not linked to the account but the character, which I plan to delete and start anew D:

Yeah, I really want to start over on a fresh server and relearn a few classes but I don't want to lose my goobbue/legacy mark and chocobo/event items. Sucks.

Dammit...dammit....why can't the servers just be up all the time, or why can't it be Phase 4 next weekend! Damn game has it's claws in me and I just want to keep playing but they won't let me! :'(

I thought I'd go back and play some Tera today to hold me over, but it's just not the same...

What? Really? Why? :(

From the beta forums:

Battle Effects
Regarding feedback on effects mentioning that “battle animations are too flashy,” “I can’t see due to all the flashy animations,” “due to the large amount of participants, it’s hard to comprehend what is going on in FATE and instance dungeons,” and other feedback, the video effects and battle teams are continuing to look into these concerns for launch.

  • Flashy animations will be adjusted.
  • The scale of effects will be addressed. (Characters being hidden due to large sizes, etc.)
  • The number of particles will be limited (Aspects where particles were too spread out)
  • Addition of an effect display configuration for the PS3 version.
This is what we plan on addressing by launch according to the feedback we received. After the release, we will continue to make adjustments based on feedback.

Last time, it was Kenshiro's time in the spotlight. Big, dumb Galka. Now, the time for the Supreme Ruler to take the stage.

Raoh!

I have too much fun...

Ken-Oh will conquer this world with the might of my fists!

Starting with this small thing!

Ah, damn. I didn't know this beta was only a weekend thing. Was looking forward to playing some more today.

When is the next phase scheduled for?

So when people are talking about, "Let's do Satasha" or "LFP tam-tara" is that some kind of EXP run or are those just the first quests that require a group? Does anyone want to explain what the EXP party conventions are like on FFXIV? Because all I've done is solo up to 14 so far, done a couple of the leve things by myself and that's it. Are the guildleves what parties do?

Sastasha and Tam-Tara are both 4 player instances/dungeons. The story mode leads you to Sastasha after level 15.

There are guildleve party quests too.

I'll probably make a second character to relearn some of the class mechanics when I'm not running with my Legacy Character and my FC, myself.

Are all the EU players planning to move to Ragnorok, or sticking with Sargantas/Ultros?

i'm on shiva and odin currently.

Ragnarok was the recommended EU world in the last version, so it already has the largest EU community, lots of UK, French, Germans, Spanish, Italians, Russians, Belgians, etc. There are also Middle-East and Latin American players.

Funny enough the only downside it's that if somehow you stayed up playing late, there weren't many people around in the early-morning hours, at least until some Japanese people logged on.

Still, being in Ragnarok certainly beats adjusting your own schedule to play with NA people when you have work the next day, especially if they happen to be from the west coast, I joined a LS like that for a while in 2011, very bad idea even tho I was friends with some of the members.

sounds good. it was the same situation on my server though. last night the server was pretty empty after midnight.

Would there be enough EU players from GAF to warrant not rolling on a EU tagged server?

It's not a latency issue at the end of the day since we're all connecting to Montreal no matter where we play, just a timezone one and whether there's enough people on at the same hours. If there's one thing I've always hated it's being in the last European timezone for MMOs, things die off earliest for you even when you can put in a few more hours.

not sure. interest is pretty fickle. you'll have too many people jump ship and there you are, all alone.

Woo more folks on Sargatanas! Get your applications in for world transfer if you haven't already legacy players!

That said Ultros/Sargatanas are considered US/EU servers. Seems like EU shares with NA, but the US/EU data center is located in Montreal, Canada. So take that as will in terms of latency. But yeah, the data centers are only JP or US/EU.

So nice they're giving us the the option to tone down the light effects stuff, it's very annoying and it totally kills the fps on PS3.

Go buy The Last of Us. It'll make the wait a lot easier.

Satasha and Tam Tara are two of the early dungeons. They require a group to enter and you unlock them by completing the main story scenario. After you've unlocked them, you can continue to run through if you want for more EXP and item rewards that are better than anything you'll get from questing.

Guildhests are a separate thing. They require a group but its a bit more focused on teaching you how group play works in an MMO. Lots of great lessons about pulling, dispelling, not standing in bad stuff, add control, ect. I love this feature and hope they add more of them. You get huge exp rewards the first time you do them and some gold. The challenges are a lot of fun, even for MMO vets.

Oh yeah, how are you guys attaching materia you acquired to slots on your weapons/gear?

You have to level a crafting class associated with your gear, staves = goldsmith, mage gear = weaver etc

once you level a crafting class to lvl 18 (i think maybe higher level now in 2.0) you can take a quest to give you ability to affix materia to items.

Nooo, i love my flashy THM spells, its like one of the best parts of being a THM :(

They really need to change forced starting area. It's probably too late now, though.

Edit: You could have guild representives in every city as a solution, for example.

They really need to change forced starting areas. It's bad game design.

Not quite in terms of orienting the new player. It makes no sense to start in Limsa but you chose your starting class as Gladiator, which has it's guild in Ul'dah. That said, 1.x let you do that, but it'd really confuse the new player.

I disagree. The way the game starts you off is perfect for whichever class you start with. Those little quests people were bitching about before you go out and fight lead you around each city naturally in order for you to pick up, complete and activate the crystals around the place. Then it takes you out to fight. People are too thickheaded to see it.

It would be nonsense to be a Pugilist and start in Limsa. Would confuse the player and make it a pain to pick up class quests.

Its funny since in 1.0 people were complaining about having no idea what to do, where to go, or even what an Aetheryte was.

THM could be very interesting at later levels, because of the two modes you can be in - do more damage or use less MP, with a spell to switch between modes at any point, and spells that autoswitch between the modes that you may want to cast.
Slogging through boring parts just because it might get better later on is just not my style. My Ranger is fun to play now, and from what little I know there is more fun to be had later too.

My ranger cat deals damage dependent on enemy HP, applies dots and selfbuffs, hops back when the going gets tough and even disables opponents if the fight is unwinnable. While moving. Which means evading enemy attacks does not affect damage throughput.

With THM, moving negates any dps whatsoever. The long cast times and decay of the alignment buff keeps you from doing any fancy maneuvers anyway. The buff doesn't stack or require any tactics. There is no real decision-making required, a group of four dippy birds and a trained marmot could play lowlevel THM combat provided they're synced up correctly. Which is kind of bad design, methinks.

(Granted, I left out the sleep spell and surecast, which are both utterly worthless in normal progression to Level 10 - unless you're prone to standing in red circles or habitually stand near hostile mobs. Would make sense if one of the attacks had an AoE effect, but it doesn't, so why not unlock it when it's needed for dungeons.)

Anyway.

Cat wins, no contest. I mean Ranger. Ranger wins. Marauder too, since they pretty much learn skills to the same effect in the first ten-odd levels). Rest, dunno, need to play more.

Which, admittedly, I kind of want to now.

How are you folks taking HUDless screens btw?

Press Scroll Lock.

Seems alright from what I played. Not crazy on the mashy cooldown atypical MMO combat, but the lighting is definitely gorgeous. Wish I could get more AA on the go, but the game hates my 5770 taking over and glitches all graphics at that point.

The game does not work with forced AA in Nvidia Control Panel or AMD Catalyst Control Center. Don't do it.

The lighting and shadowing engine in the game are state of the art because the ARR engine shares some code with Luminous Engine, the next generation engine used for FFXV and KH3. In fact the whole lighting and shadowing engine is basically the Luminous Engine technology and it does look fabulous. Because Luminous is a DX10+ class engine which uses deferred rendering, traditional MSAA cannot be used and so ARR uses FXAA.
