Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | June 2013 | Late Ports and Late Threads

Wait, so Grimmy isn't making the July thread? Do we have a replacement yet?

I can totally do it.

Edit: Top of the page, buy Soul Sacrifice and download all of the free DLCs! Two new bosses (Ouroboros and Wraith) and a new black rite (Angelus) will be released next Tuesday.

I'm posting in this thread with a couple simple questions, as I've decided to hit the Vita with a vengeance.

A) The first question is key, though: how do you like organizing your games and apps? I usually have two screens, with the main screen for apps, the second for games, and I have my games organized into folders, which are based on genres. Essentially:

page 1 - system aps and one folder on it with useless junk (welcome park etc.)
page 2 - community stuff, trophies, shop
page 3 - full games + one folder with icons holding old save games
page 4 - psn games, psp/ps1 classics

A) The first question is key, though: how do you like organizing your games and apps?
I have three pages right now. The first page is for the apps I use most often (Settings, Friends, Trophies, Store, Near), second page for the games I'm currently playing, and third page for other games and apps organized by folders. Your idea sounds good too though.

B) The second question is, what games would you like custom themes for?
Gravity Rush, Hatsune Miku Project Diva f, and Soul Sacrifice. My backgrounds are starting to become a bit stale, so I'm looking forward to whatever you come up with. :)

Since the introduction of folders I keep everything on a single page.

My folders are loosely arranged according to my data management strategy:

- System 1 and System 2: All system apps
- Apps: All installed apps
- Cards: All retail games.
- Fighting: Fighting games, obviously. Most of them are permanently stored on my memory card.
- Fixtures: Other genres of games that are permanently kept on my memory card (rhythm games and UGC games)
- Queue: Games that will be removed from my card once beaten.

That leaves 3 spaces left on the page for demos and such, that are removed once tried.

A) I don't use the folders and like to have many homescreens.
1. System/PSN stuff (settings, content manager, friends, trophies...)
2. Multimedia apps (youtube, music unlimited, video, music, browser,...)
3. Retail games
4-5. PSN games (and some retail, too many games :))
6. Legacy content (PSP, PS1, minis)
7-9. PSM
10. Unimportant stuff (network operator, remote play, social apps)

B) Not a big fan of game related custom themes.

From my standpoint, I want to create a flexible enough template to work from, so that a theme is not hampered by (but also won't get in the way of) a users organization. My intention is to produce for you guys some high quality themes that incorporate the following:

Lock screen
Home screen 1 (apps) {organized in folders by category such as social, lifestyle, utilities*}
Home screen 2 (games) {organized in folders by genre such as RPG, racing, fighting*}
Home screen 3 (psppsone classic) {organized in folders by genre such as RPG, racing, fighting*}

*categories would go by the PSN store designation

I want to keep the icon layout of these templates fairly static, to minimize the work for the user in reorganizing their icons when applying wallpapers

B) The second question is, what games would you like custom themes for?

Have at it. I will be adding this post to the july thread, whenever that goes up.

#1 I only have 2 home screens, one for games and game-related stuff and the other for apps.

The GAME home screen carries all my games in folders by genre AND also by series if any particular series has more than 3 or 4 games (FF, Persona, MGS, RPGs, Action, Platformers) and also there I have any utility related to gaming, like Remote Play, PS Store, Content Manager Assistant.

#2 FFVI, FFX, P4G, Velocity Ultra, Sine Mora, Wipeout.

Thanks!

gameplay > graphics

Not when it's a blurry jaggy mess it isn't.

*face melts*

In fact, someone give me a PSP resolution background image. I'm curious to see if the photo app blows it up and if not how bad it being "native res" is.

Yeah, with P3 its MUCH easier to become stuck at a point where you can no longer progress then it is with P4.

Yeah. With P3, I got stuck fairly early against the
Magician boss (floor guardian, not monthly thing)
, because I didn't have anything worthy
without weakness to an elemental magic.
So did some grinding until that wasn't true. It's too bad that as soon as you do any grinding in P3 you are suddenly ridiculously powered for the rest of the game at Normal difficulty - and Hard was a shade tougher than I like for a first playthrough :(

For A, I left it stock. New apps go in the newest spot on the page. I would sort them all into folders but they are not big enough to hold all the things I want in 1 bubble, and my OCD/anal behaviour doesn't let me make 2 bubbles for the same thing.

For B, Unrealistic I'm sure, but a really well done Soul Sacrifice theme could be awesome. I don't know how far the home screen can be customized, but turning on your Vita and flipping through pages of games/apps like they were pages in Librom would be so sick.

If nobody else wants to you totally should. Should probably include thanks to Grimmy for his service
even if he'll probably be too lost in Animal Crossing to notice :(

Really tired of P3P, got to a point where I HAVE to grind or I won't be able to progress. Even little monsters kill me. So I think I'm just going to quit now and not look back.

I'll probly start P4G tonight. Though I've been saying it for 4 months now. Xp

I'm in the exact same boat. I got stuck in P3P and haven't touched it in 6 months. Which really sucks cause I bought P4G months ago and wanted to finish P3P first...which isn't happening.

I'm stuck at the
wheel of fortune boss
and I hate hate hate grinding and leveling. I love the relationships and side quests and everything but the dungeon is really boring to me, so I rarely end up going to Tartarus, which is probably why my guys are underpowered.

I really hope there's an easy setting in P4G, so I can just enjoy the game and not have to worry about getting stuck like this...

MASSIVE LATE GAME PERSONA 4 SPOILERS

fucking nanako just died and I'm crying and what the fuck

Fuck this game I hate it fuck I don't know wether to keep playing guys

My Vita organization is bland. Almost unworthy of posting.

Page 1: What I'm playing.
Page 2: Storage of games I'd like to keep loaded for a rainy day.\
Page 3: Apps (Friends, Group Chat, Twitter, Youtube).
Page 4: System Applications (Content Manager, Settings, Maps, E-Mail).

I also use black backgrounds, mostly because I was miffed that page transitions faded to black. So, I figured I might as well make it easier for myself.

I cried too. But load your game before that just happened and fix the mistake you made by throwing that mug into the TV and you'll be happier

I only use 3 pages on my Vita now thanks to folders, one for main apps (Store, Trophies, Settings, etc), one for all my games/minor apps and a third for the junk I never use in one folder.

B) The second question is, what games would you like custom themes for?

Niche stuff! Muramasa, EDF, BlazBlue and the like. :)

grumble grumble

i did as well. I knew it was a bad choice but I'm so fucking angry. I killed him instantly.

Will replay that bit soon

Edit:
oh god it still hurts the second time I see

I'm thinking of getting one of the PSP Prince of Persia games since they're on sale right now. Which PSP POP game is the best? The only POP game I've played is Sands of Time so the fact two of them are just PS2 ports won't matter to me. Loved Sands of Time by the way.

There were three of them on PSP (Battlefront II, Rogue Squadron, and Elite Squadron) but SCEA hates putting PSP and PSone games on the Vita store.

Metal Gear freakin' Solid :'C

I better be able to manage and transfer PS1 and PSP content on the PS4 >:[

More p4g spoilers I'm sorry I don't have anywhere else to go

shes alive oh thank god I don't think I could of took it if she just ended up dead again

Finished Golden Abyss. Fun side story but not something I would want to replay again. There just wasn't one sequence, puzzle or environment that stood out to me. Just a bunch of checkmarks on a list of things uncharted should have.

And god so many collectibles, they litter the game with so much crap. Fuck getting all of that.

The bounties were the only really badly thought out collectible, IMO. The rest was standard fare.

And I'd still rather replay Uncharted:GA than play through Uncharted 2 ever again. :)

i'm half way through GA and quite enjoying it. it's a bit liek an anti-Uncharted 3, in which t doesn't have the endless set piece after setpiece. which i really like actually because UC3 just felt poorly connected and really off in its pacing. i/d rather play through golden abyss again than uncharted 3.

I haven't played UC3, but I agree with this. While the touchscreen stuff is a bit much, I dig the overall lack of setpieces and the increase of whole chapters with no combat at all, just exploration and a back of forth between characters.

Plus I dug that the collectibles (not bounties) were actually related to the game's story, as well as including a fair bit of exposition. Way better than just finding random junk.

I only use two pages. First page is organized like a controller:

* & *
* * * *
* & *

(* being a folder, & being nothing)

It goes:

PSP games & PS Store
PSV games PSN Games Friends Trophies
PSM games & Settings

Second page is two folders and the content manager in the middle. First folder is Multimedia (music, photos, videos). Second folder is Misc. (browser, email, group messaging, welcome park, party, near, remote play, maps).

I greatly enjoyed Golden Abyss. In fact it's the only Vita game I platinumed. I've never played any other Uncharted though since I don't have a PS3.

Hey!

Wondering what the best deal for a new Vita is right now. I know Target's got them for $200 but all the local targets are sold out. Is there anywhere that'll do a price match? Prefer 3g but not fussed otherwise.

I want those...

And GTA please.

At Gamescom. Believe.

AssCreed = Ok I'll bite
Bioshock (even if made by 2K Marin) = gimme
GOW = Do not want, GOW:A was horrible, SSM killed the IP.

as for GTA ...I'd rather see a Saints Row game on Vita, it is the superior open world series nowdays (I don't care about what sell more) and actually fun to play and cheaper to get.

XMB was an outdated mess and ugly and bland UI on both PS3 and PSP.

let that smelly corpse go and lost forever in the unholy forgotten land and hope it never return in any shape or form.

I disagree, for button/controllers is probably the best minimal UI system. The problem is the lack of "drill-down" and too much stuff in the XMB that you can't remove on PS3 (Netflix/Home permanently there even if you don't use them)

A little outdated looking, but WONDERFULLY functional and minimal. It's one of my favorite UIs ever.
