Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | June 2013 | Late Ports and Late Threads

So guys, how much would you recommend Stranger's Wrath on Vita?

I have never played the game. How is the performance and resolution? Is the game worth it?
I very rarely see it in the "PSVITA must own games lists"

Oh it's brilliant. I'm not finished with it, but having a lot of fun with it so far. A really good port, especially when compared with the Jak trilogy.

I didn't enjoy the game, everything felt too last gen for me.
Technically the port is very good. Image quality is very clear and clean because of its native resolution and the framerate also holds up well most of the time. They dropped only once significantly and made a certain bossfight nearly unplayable.

People don't buy hardware to play F2P games, they play F2P games because they already own the hardware and are looking to kill time. So you're essentially targeting the existing userbase, and for Vita that's not exactly a huge number.

For me, the F2P games helped the purchase of my Vita, because they gave me something to do WITHOUT having to spend more money.

Compared to the NES "Here's Duckhunt and Super Mario World!" Formula, getting a host of F2P options on system purchase is a very nice incentive.

It SLIGHTLY assist in combating the price of the memory card; If I could only buy a system + 1 retail game, I can instead buy System + Mem card, and have quite a few games waiting for me, and then even more for the comparatively cheap price of PS+.

Marketed right, a large selection of F2P games could be a system seller, to the right demographic.

I don't understand this f2p focus on vita, i have always thought that f2p rely on big userbases to get some money from purchases that are in the in the order of less that 1 €/$.

I once invested over 600€ in an f2p mmorpg.
Sold the equipment for 1500€ on ebay, after 7500 hours of playtime^^

People really spend a lot on f2p titles.

Congrats for the revenue, but omg 7500 hours?!?!?!?!!? I can't even imagine me playing a game for more than 100 hours!

I like it. It looks great on the Vita because it runs in native res and the gameplay and world are pretty unique.

Just got my VITA. Bought it used, but it really looks newish... No OLED burn ins.

Amazed at the build quality of this thing.

Looking forward hanging out with you in this thread and future ones.. :)

Oh it's brilliant. I'm not finished with it, but having a lot of fun with it so far. A really good port, especially when compared with the Jak trilogy.

The game is solid, but gets old really quickly as it becomes a mostly repetitive first person shooter where you end up using the same 3 weapons over and over again. :\ The story was cool, but I felt like it dragged on and on and I wanted it to hurry up and end. The graphics were good and it's a well done port.

Side note: it pisses me off when people compare ports like this. It's apples and oranges.

Does any of you guys have Guacamelee? I'm on the fence to buy it but I want some opinions from the vitabros

its a GREAT PSN metroid-vania style game. challenging and thoughtful platforming. could use more variety in terms of enemies . Overall one of my top 10 PSN games. if you'reon the fence, definitely get it.

how so?

both are 3rd person open world games with platforming and action

both originally released in the same gen

both being given "HD" ports on the vita

only difference is the Jak HD collection is shit and anyone involved in that port should be ashamed

PS:
the dark theme is awesome!

That same interview had this, which is VERY worrying:

"When asked whether the success of the Vita rests on the success of PS4, Kawano replied, “That’s right. I think the compatibility between PS4 and PS Vita will be especially important in Japan."

Hearing that from SCEJ's president is pretty scary, but alas, hopefully we'll get Gravity Rush 2 :\

It's fucking fantastic.
Why haven't you bought it yet? :P

It came out in 2013, right?
If so, it's one of my GOTY candidates alongside Soul Sacrifice.

No, most F2P games work by getting some people, known as "whales" to spend huge amounts of money on the game.

Since getting an Android tablet I'm really shocked at how blatant the money grubbing is in a lot of these games. I was used to PC MMORPG F2P, which is much more subtle.

Mobile seems to be a lot more like facebook, buying special currency for real money, which is then used to enhance gear or to speed up processes.

That's not to say all are like that. There are some that are decent, only asking for a little money (see Penguin Party on PS Mobile as an example).

Wired said:
Lee says that spending money on games like Clash of Clans is actually saving him money in the long-run: Before he started gaming, he says he and a small group of friends would go out drinking, sometimes spending as much as $6,000 in a single night between them.

WTF. Sounds like these dudes need to get stronger alcohol or lose a little weight. WTF were they spending $6K in alcohol on? Wine slipped through a supermodels breasts before being bottled or something?

I love how everyone who uses a PS Vita the first time is amazed by the quality and feel of the machine. I'd come to the Vita directly off of the PSP so it wasn't too much of a jump, but I can imagine people coming to it from a 3DS are blown away.

Also, I would be playing more Toro's Friend Network but I can't seem to stop playing P4G. This is the first Persona in which the relationship aspects are keeping my attention more than the dungeon.

Some people seem to think that super expensive liquor tastes better or something. Which is only true of scotch... in which case you drink it slowly and thoughtfully...

One of the best games of this year so far. Beautiful, 60fps, fluid combat and some REALLY challenging platforming.

I don't get it :P Is something similar coming to Vita, or are you talking about Senran Kagura?

Can someone explain this game to me? I saw screens of it before and it looked like a puzzle game, I guess because they were from top down view? If it's like a tactical strategy game I'll lose my MIND

Nice, Double Eleven also posted a picture of the menu screen running on PS3, so I guess it's a cross-buy title.

Speaking of Double Eleven, they're teaming up with the Q-Games, the PixelJunk devs, on something. No guarantee that will lead to anything Vita related (it's a possibility though I guess), but what a match-up!

The focus on F2P games seems so misguided. Puzzle & Dragons wouldn't have become the success it was if it was on Vita instead of phones. People don't buy hardware to play F2P games, they play F2P games because they already own the hardware and are looking to kill time. So you're essentially targeting the existing userbase, and for Vita that's not exactly a huge number.
Sega seems to have been successful with their F2P games. Samurai & Dragons is still getting new content, and was launched in more Asian countries. And PSO2 is apparently over 500k users now, including the 100k (IIRC) or so premium retail copies sold. I don't think this is something they're just mindlessly pursuing because F2P is the latest fad - it's clearly a business model that has had some degree of success on the platform, and it's probably something the 3DS and Nintendo's infrastructure won't be able to support as well in the immediate future.

I don't get it :P Is something similar coming to Vita, or are you talking about Senran Kagura?
It was a launch window game in Japan. As far as I can tell, it's from a company that used to make regular strategy games, but then apparently discovered that they could sell more by replacing all the units with kewt girls. Now they've several series going, including a feudal Japan one (Sengoku Hime) and a Three Kingdoms era one (Sangoku Hime).

BTW - On a bed in a hotel room, playing Knytt Underground - livin' the Vita lifestyle. :)

Yes, it's tactical strategy.
At least Frozen Synapse is... not sure how this console version is different...

Oh my! I didn't know Frozen Synapse was headed to Vita. I love the game on PC. Whoo! I can't wait to pick up Hotline Miami tomorrow. I wish they'd release Magic 2014 on Vita with cross-buy/cross-play support.

Anyone beat Soul Sacrifice yet? Picked it up this morning and I'm currently
fighting magusar
.

Holding the Vita again after so much AC on the 3DS feels nice. That system legit gives me hand cramps.

Sony what are you doing?

Is a price cut for the PS Vita one of those things? After all, Sony did cut the price of the handheld in Japan a few months ago. "You wouldn't expect me to come into pricing discussions unless we announce them at E3," returned Longworth. No, but pricing is a marketing tool, isn't it? "We're about value, we're trying to offer value," Longworth said. "You saw last night we were in a position we felt the value of the PS4 was very good at $399. With PS Vita we feel that $250 is the right price, and I'm not going to comment on where we might go in the future."
http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2013-06-24-sony-most-gamers-dont-want-to-buy-online-right-now

Vita need a price cut badly imho.

Let's hope the gamescom will be as good for vita as they promise...
Just don't get hyped!

I can't help it, despite my proclamations of peace and serenity, every time someone says 'Vita show incoming!' I get hyped for Dark Cloud 3. It's a mental issue I deal with.
