Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | June 2013 | Late Ports and Late Threads

XMB ugly? Vita's bubble interface is the most hideous interface conceived.

And it's strange so many adapt to it so easily considering the backlash Windows 8 got. You know, how it sacrificed a clean, usable Mouse+Keyboard interface for one that's solely touch designed? Vita's the same thing. Or are there seriously people that suffer through the Vita's interface with buttons? My condolences.

Either way, there's little reason not to offer the choice, at least.

I haven't played UC3, but I agree with this. While the touchscreen stuff is a bit much, I dig the overall lack of setpieces and the increase of whole chapters with no combat at all, just exploration and a back of forth between characters.

Plus I dug that the collectibles (not bounties) were actually related to the game's story, as well as including a fair bit of exposition. Way better than just finding random junk.

yeah. i quite like the puzzles in GA too, they're fit in nicely with the pacing and some of them actually incorporate a little exploration. basically the opposite of UC3 in which every puzzle was a chore and i wanted to get it done with straight away.

Nothing inherently wrong with the functionality of the Vita interface but if I had the option to use XMB I would. Just, don't like the look of the Vita menus at all.

The XMB is nice, but Sony's moving away from it for the PS brand as a whole with the PS4 and Vita, the Vita's OS could be way worse than it is. I do like how quick and snappy everything is, and how quickly I can jump between pages, open new ones, close them, etc. It's really good for a touch interface, with my only real complaint at launch being that there were no button controls for stuff like in-game saving in games that didn't use the touchscreen, but that's since been rectified.

I will admit, my first few days of using my Vita I stubbornly kept trying to navigate the menu with buttons, but once I shrugged that off it got way better.

I just hope they allow us to make custom icons in the near future... but that seems kinda unlikely :/

but other than that, it is really one snappy interface (I hope I could turn off some of the animations though... like the icon spinning when you tap on it to activate... just a simple fade in fade out would be enough for me)

I loved the XMB, but I have to admit it belongs to the past now. As for the current bubble interface, I consider it just plain hideous.

I wouldn't mind porting the overall "flat" style of the PS4 interface to the Vita though. If they do that, they would have a style that is modern, good-looking and consistent across devices.

The organization of your games, folders and wallpapers reset when you restore the factory settings, right? I'm asking since I'm switching cards a lot.

XMB was an outdated mess and ugly and bland UI on both PS3 and PSP.

let that smelly corpse go and lost forever in the unholy forgotten land and hope it never return in any shape or form.
The Toto has spoken.

He's wrong, of course. But He hath spoken.

From what I heard about the game, this still seems to be 20 pounds too much?

eh its ok, on a basic level it is a competent FPS, with quite little content, i enjoyed getting the wave based survival trophies, but the MP is so janky it barely works.

I bought it on sale and sold it on ebay for what i payed for it, so it was alright.

As long as you back up and restore using Content Manager after restoring the system, all that stuff stays put. I was pleasantly surprised by this yesterday when switching back to my EU account.

Hotline Miami this week yeaahhh!

What part did you get stuck at? My first playthrough was only on normal, but I don't recall needing to grind outside of doing all of Elizabeth's requests until January.

A little bit after you get the dog.
Turns out he's actually higher level than me lol. All I do I study/hit on this girl afterschool because I find Tartarus so damn boring. I like the social aspects and such even if its point and click because I detest Tartarus. In any case, its been deleted (third time I've done this). :P Will get around to my P4G copy at some point in my Vita life for sure though lol.

Finished Golden Abyss. Fun side story but not something I would want to replay again. There just wasn't one sequence, puzzle or environment that stood out to me. Just a bunch of checkmarks on a list of things uncharted should have.

And god so many collectibles, they litter the game with so much crap. Fuck getting all of that.

The bounties were the only really badly thought out collectible, IMO. The rest was standard fare.

And I'd still rather replay Uncharted:GA than play through Uncharted 2 ever again. :)
I just did my third playthrough of UGA yesterday (first two were nearly 1,5 years ago). Fun game, but I was surprised how bad framerate is around the middle of the game. I honestly didn't notice almost any fps drops during my first and second playthrough. And man, that game is beautiful even in a sub-native resolution. I probably took like 200 screenshots or something. Can't wait to see what comes next from Sony Bend.

Oh and all the touch puzzles were so annoying this time around

Can't really be bothered to do that, honestly, considering how often I change cards. But it's okay, I've never been big on UI customization. I also lose my Near progress and some other system things every time, but it's no biggie.

By the way, thank god for the Vita supporting WPS and my router having that function, no need to enter a wifi key each time I restore!

Just bought a Vita for the classics
Is there a way for me to get PSP games on Vita?

Your digital PSN titles yes (but not all are compatible, some can be copied from PS3 instead of downloading) but no to UMDs.

Unless you are asking in general, then just get them off the PSN. (currently playing War of the Lions :))

What are the odds that they overhaul the Vita UI to match the PS4 UI or maybe to match how the UI will be for the iOS/Android app?

So Atelier Totori has been pretty fun so far. It starts out real slow but as you progress (I'm currently at year 2) more and more stuff opens up and the game is deeper than it seems at first glance.

Really like the voice acting and the story has its own charm for being very personal and centered around the main character's coming of age as an adventurer instead of your typical "here's a big sword, go out and save the world from the big bad" (though it's still early so who knows).

The alchemy mechanic is quite addicting with a pretty extensive list of ingredients and effects, and the way you gain points for your adventurer's license is handled achievements-style (i.e. explore a certain part of the map = 20 points; defeat 30 wolves = 5 points). Parallel to this you're also leveling up your stats as an adventurer (by defeating enemies) and leveling up your alchemist rank (by successfully crafting items).

I just wish there were dungeons to explore. There are outdoor ruins and caves, and though they look nice there are no mazes to get lost in or anything like that unlike in traditional JRPGs.

Been adding random strangers just for Toro's Friend Network. Kinda neat, actually! Some people are really cool. I should do this more often.

Also started using folders today. Makes everything neat.

There are a few bigger ones. There's one in the mines that guarded by a flying..err..fairy-like monster and the final dungeon is quite big but I never got far because I ran out of time. :)

Nice! Something to look forward to. :)

About running out of time--I've just been taking it easy for my first playthrough (not reloading after my party got KO'd, not reloading after missing the deadline on one quest) is that going to bite my ass in the end? I have been doing as many quests as possible but I don't want to approach the game trying to min/max everything.

Considering that they explicitly gathered interest only for the PS3 version on Facebook, only announced the PS3 version being localized, and the demo being available..I'd say just pick up the Japanese version..
Yeah. I'd say that initially Sega were interested in the Vita version with it being at E3 last year, but obviously they just decided to ignore it and go with the PS3 version in their localisation pitch after that, which prettymuch shows the Vita version wont come over.

Chance of port for free to play Tekken Revolution.
I've done my bit.
Hopefully it gets enough downloads, I'd love to be able to play Revolution on my Vita.
Huh...is the Jak and Daxter Collection really as bad as people say it is, guys?

Because I just watched this video and it really doesn't seem that bad. Not perfect, but not that bad at all.

Is this video representative of the game, for those who've played it?
I can't speak for Jak II or 3, but that video's probably representive of Jak 1 when it's running at its best, other than that it suffers from frequent drops (although it tends to be more stable after you get to the second part of the game in my expirence) which make the game harder to play along with timing imputs right.

It's still playable, but it's definately much more mixed in terms of fps compared to that video.

"- This(ffx/x-2) is Square Enix’s first major Vita title
- Kitase feels that the Vita and its fine screen is a great match for an HD remake and has been impressed by the device"
Do we have to expect other "major" titles for vita?

I downloaded and cancelled it after some days lol. I want a story mode!
I'm not sure that for "download" he meant the game...
Anyway this could lead to a future full tekken for vita.

A) The first question is key, though: how do you like organizing your games and apps?
B) The second question is, what games would you like custom themes for?
a)1 page to rule them all...
b)knytt underground, dragon's crown and in general all the visually appealing games(no realistic dudebro games)
I want those...

And GTA please.

At Gamescom. Believe.
I have never heard of gow redemption, multi ps4-vita? Unlikely...
I would prefer xcom, saint's row and fallout spinoffs(no ports)

PS:
the dark theme is awesome!

I really believe Kawano when he says that 2013 is an important year for Vita. It's not like his company isn't releasing a single internally developed game on the platform or a single notable exclusive in the same year where its direct competition gets two of its most important games. Oh wait ... The focus on F2P games seems so misguided. Puzzle & Dragons wouldn't have become the success it was if it was on Vita instead of phones. People don't buy hardware to play F2P games, they play F2P games because they already own the hardware and are looking to kill time. So you're essentially targeting the existing userbase, and for Vita that's not exactly a huge number.

I don't understand this f2p focus on vita, i have always thought that f2p rely on big userbases to get some money from purchases that are in the in the order of less that 1 €/$.

No, most F2P games work by getting some people, known as "whales" to spend huge amounts of money on the game.

http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/iPhone/Top+10+iPhone+charts/feature.asp?c=50103

Since getting an Android tablet I'm really shocked at how blatant the money grubbing is in a lot of these games. I was used to PC MMORPG F2P, which is much more subtle.

Mobile seems to be a lot more like facebook, buying special currency for real money, which is then used to enhance gear or to speed up processes.

That's not to say all are like that. There are some that are decent, only asking for a little money (see Penguin Party on PS Mobile as an example).

Uhmmm... interesting, but could console gamers be "whales"? I doubt it.
