Most of the people I know who use sticks don't have a favorable opinion of that particular model when compared to the rest of Madcatz's line. I wouldn't be able to tell you why though.

Preference thing from my experience, if you don't like the Pro line it's typically because the V.S. line is more what you're looking for in a stick (big and solid.) Other than that the only other difference in the madcatz sticks (other than the budget line which isn't what you're looking for) is that the tekken tag and soul calibur have an Astro city layout of the buttons (curved slightly kind of like a horseshoe so it fits your hand better) versus a viewlix layout of the buttons (more of a straight line and very useful for those who like to slide across the buttons to do hands.) Most people seem to like viewlix, but again it's preference.

As to the eightarcs and qanbas, the build quality isn't as solid as the madcatz, though I hear it's improving with the newer versions. Add to that unfortunate start button placement on the qanbas means you're more likely to hit it accidentally when you're mashing for your life.

Also, Markman and Madcatz are everywhere and sponsor everything which, for me at least, is worth kicking in a few extra bucks to pick up 2 sticks or buy their stick and get it dual modded (another thing you can take care of at the tournament, say hi to Duckie for us.)

The fact that it was Bala in the finals made the KOF finals that much more hype. Without him KOF wont be as good imo.

I'm sure it will be hype with all the South East Asian and other Mexican players coming, at least I hope they can give us a match against CafeID. But I agree that it won't be as hype as last year, because there was a story behind Bala's domination and his winning streak leading to EVO, the CafeID guys were basically nobodies, it was hype because it was completely unexpected.

Did Art get paid yet? We should find out if there are others who aren't getting paid by twitch yet, then make a thread calling attention to it like the Jaxel one.

It's the standard stick most folks use, but wait to see if you get any sales- odds are you can save $30 if you get around CEO or EVO. Soul Calibur stick might be cheapest. You might be able to get even cheaper used.

Going with my gut on Injustice and thinking it would end up broken was the right call.

It looks like any other madcatz sticks which are alright. You should also think about getting a qanba or an eightarc. They are priced the same but are dual modded as well.

Wait for the weekend there will probably be lots of stick sales for CEO.

Appreciate it guys! Thanks for the input. I'll wait for this weekend and see if Mad Catz does any sales. I've been looking at the one I linked and the Soul Calibur stick.

Never looked at Qanba though, Dual mod would be convenient, I just seem to like Mad Catz for some reason.

definitely forgot ceo was this weekend. Like everybody else said wait till then for some nice deals. I think the soul calibur sticks are like discounted to 80-90 bucks during tournies.

My personal list of stick models in order of best to worst.

Madcatz V.S (mine is custom, best affordable stick on the market)

Hori SCV model which also has a Tekken and DOA version

TE S stick, This includes the SSFIV S, Chun Li, SCV and TTT2 versions

Original TE, can be converted to look like an S stick by removing side panels and adding S model panels. S sticks are still superior in that the PCB was also updated.

Fightstick PRO

The latest HRAP, start button placement kills it for me

The Fighting Edge and VLX are ones I don't have or tried yet but I would say they would be high up in the list. They are also the most expensive of the bunch. You won't find discounts for either. I am currently waiting for the white Fighting Edge. I will probably get the Diamond VLX when I feel like it.

I have the MVC2 TE, the TE S from SF 4 and a SF X T Pro I love them all tbh. I wish I had the money for a VS though (And I wish Mad Catz shipped to PR)

Turns out the low Tekken numbers might be due to a boycott of Evo by the Tekken community over Wiz banning DS3's (Even without batteries) from EVO. I understand why it's being done, but I understand why the Tekken community is revolting.

I have a Qanba , I think build quality is equivalent to Mad Catz, though a bit pricier. Start button is a bit inconveniently placed though.

after playing p4 arena i´m in the mood for an airdash / anime fighter.
is there anything available on pc with an alive mp?
i reinstalled BBCT .. but guess what - its more than dead :(

I don't understand. A lot of developers and communities put in real work to earn a slot and there are people boycotting? I wish VF or Skullgirls fans had the luxury to do such a thing.

Edit: I'm guessing 3D games have an especially large amount of pad players?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Shit has been banned the year before and I think maybe the year before that. How is Kor going to trying to convince the EVO staff that the DS3 controllers won't cause an issue when HIS controller caused an issue.

This is their petition from Kor and co

I guess those are the benefits of having a job lol

Tekken does. Perhaps SC.

VF nope, and I assume DOA is also nope.

Sounds like FilthieRIch is going to start his own series of 3D tournaments. Maybe Jaxel can get in on that since the 3D community is a different clique than the 2D community.

That said, the VF community would jump at EVO. They didn't this year, but that was because they assumed the event was packed, and they wanted to support Sega Cup first since it was SEGA sponsored.

I think VF and SG should combine- I'd love to see Salty Cupcakes add VF to its lineup. The most underappreciated 2d and 3d games. (besides Shin Koihime Musou ^_^)

So this is basically enforced across all 2D games too? No wired Dualshocks or 360 pads as far as the eye can see?

I'm not sure how smart of an idea it is to distance your scene from the most popular ones.

I think it's stupid, but 3D community and 2D community don't cross all that much.

You don't see many Tekken+Marvel players, you see a few VF+SF folks though.
GT is VF+Persona.

Yeah but the Capcom viewers and tourney goers have an opportunity every tournament to get exposed to 3d games. If they just cut and run, they're missing out on potential future players and fans.

They even banned wired Dualshocks? Is it due desync issues?

I can respect the Tekken scene's united front. At least they're not a bunch of headless chickens running about aimlessly.

Reminds me of something I saw in a Grim Fandango thread lol.
With bony hands I hold my partner
On soulless feet we cross the floor
The music stops as if to answer
An empty knocking at the door
It seems his skin was sweet as mango
When last I held him to my breast
But now we dance this grim fandango
And will four years before we rest.

Worked for Smash!

Did it help Soulcalibur or VF?

Honest question

From what I"m hearing, the Atlanta, NY, and Texas Tekken comms are all now boycotting Evo. It's the Tekken players leading this. It really sounds like they're going to pull a Smash and go it alone.

That said, Tekken given its tourney numbers, probably doesn't deserve any special treatment.

Doesn't this affect all pad players regardless of the game?

What would be the point of trying to split from the "Capcom FGC" as some like to call it? If it's to gain more exposure for their game and players on stream, people won't tune in without the main Capcom games. But if they just don't want to feel like 2nd class citizens at tournaments and run what they want when they want to, go for it.

I am honestly very curious to see how many would turn out for a 3D or non Capcom tournament. Even for Majors non Capcom games almost never break 100+ outside of Injustice. Would the idea of having the spotlight and attention all to themselves drive more non Capcom players to attend tournaments?

At least the Tekken players don't have to use up their precious vacation time to attend now.

Anyway, I went to my last local before the move, and I had a great time. Played a good 3 hours of Marvel and 3 hours of Skullgirls. There were only two Street Fighter setups, so it was hard to get a match in there. I wished I could have shown off (lol) my Guile, though. I'll miss that group - a great bunch of fellows.

One thing I noticed is that, for the first time, there were no Tekken setups. Usually there are 2, but this week there were like 10 Marvel stations, 1 Skullgirls, 1 Guilty Gear, 2 KOF, 2 Street Fighter, and 1 P4A. Maybe a few more Marvel stations, but I think that's pretty accurate. There was an Injustice station for a while, but then it got switched to Marvel because no one played it for half an hour. And this is in MK land. I sat down and tried to learn P4A and KOF on empty stations, but people wanted to play me, so it didn't last long.

Hahahahaha.

Skullgirls is coming to PC very soon. Otherwise, just use GGPO to play old stuff like Darkstalkers.

Honest question

I couldn't tell you.

VF was on WNF for a while, and that brought the Sega Cup to that arcade. But it's just stagnated since then.

I guess the only way to know is if a new Tekken or SC goes the independent route and either fails or gains ground.

Sega Cup drew 100, and that was just VF. About 10 were internationals and there was a $3k pot bonus.
I could see a 3D only major drawing 200-300 folks. VF/Tekken/SC/DOA is a lineup. The VF folks might stay with the 2D crowd, VF and SF have never really had beef with each other, and most VF folks will play anywhere.

I don't think it's suicidal for the 3D community to go it alone. 3D fighter fans tend not to play 2D games all that seriously, and vice versa. The communities are similar, but they are separate. Sales-wise I don't think SC5 benefitted from the SF4 crowd- sales from SC4 to SC5 were pretty constant I think.

Kind of, the rarity of rolling motions makes pads quite acceptable. Not to mention that they usually only need 3 or 4 buttons. i.e. No need to deal with bumpers or triggers outside of the using for dual input macros.

I wouldn't be surprised if some Tekken players were used to using dualshocks considering the T5 cabs had slots for ps2 pads.

It's suicide.

It isn't like the numbers for SC5 or TTT2 did well despite aligning with WNF and Battle Circuit. The 3d games just don't draw large numbers for prolonged periods of time in the US.
