Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | June 2013 | Late Ports and Late Threads

Random Note: Try Cytus Lambada on PS Mobile! It's got 10 or so free stages to try... and I'm pretty impressed with it's presentation and gameplay, after only 1 song. Anyone who likes Technika Tune (or maybe even Lumines?) should give it a shot!

sorry guys, but i'm stoked for this! i already recently played through the psp game on my vita (again), but i would love to go through it with a native version. i'm glad to hear it's the first of several pixeljunk games to come though!

i really hope eden is next, then sidescroller.

I'll join in with this feeling; I played the Pixeljunk monsters Demo back on PSP, and have been wondering over and over if I'd want to get the PSP or PS3 editions; But the Vita version will finally be my definitive purchase for the game (though I might get it on PS3 for the chance to offline co-op, too?)

The series seems like it'd be perfect for Vita play, and I'm glad they seem to have picked one that's most "game-like", rather than the more trippy / out there art piece-like games, which Sony seems to generally encourage.

But what about that Pixeljunk Dungeons game, I'd prefer that... XD

Got my EU review code of Hotline Miami, I really need to dig out the headphones as the sound is pissing off the missus!

Looks stunning on the Vita screen I must say.

LOL

my son (4) was watching me play HM this morning a bit. He asks "is this game rated M?"
loud enough so mommy and g-mom could hear him. I pulled him out to the kitchen to have a little father-son talk with him while he asked the question another 4 times louder than I would have liked.

I tried to explain to him that if mommy finds out it's rated M, he wouldn't be able to watch me play it or be able to play it himself.

He's so bad at this sort of thing.

I did explain to mommy that it looks like a nintendo game and that it's not a big deal. the idea of the violence is actually worse than the animations in the game.

Hmm...

As a father, I'm not sure how I feel about this. I wouldn't let my son (6) watch me play Hotline Miami... but I do let him play the Lego games in which Legos get brutalized every minute.

I also let him watch way too much DOTA 2, so now he complains about his toys stealing Last Hits...

Not impressed by the first Pixel Junk on Vita - should have been Eden IMO.

Pixel Junk Monsters Ultimate HD.

I had the biggest boner for this, this morning, and now you guys are all eroding my boner. PJ Monsters is easily my favorite, an awesome little tower defense game. Why all the hate? :\ Sure it's not their new game but it could lead to their new game coming to Vita, presumably, right?

idk, he plays street fighter and i tend to think that's a bit worse. he has watched me beat borderlands 2 with the blood off and mommy said that was cool

i think the difficulty is too much for him so I don't think he'd want to play. he doesn't want to play alien breed and thats way easier than HM.

Well, luckily for us gamer dads there are tons of fun games we can play with and in front of our kids and not have to worry. And I do think that Hotline Miami is stylized enough, I just know my son and he'd be flying through doors trying to knock me down wearing a chicken mask before too long.

if it makes you feel any better, i played games like mortal kombat when i was ~5 and i grew into a man who still cries during movies and television. i haven't been desensitized. 16-bit video game violence really isn't going to affect a child imo. the traumatizing thing will be when they google beheadings and other horrific stuff with their friends when they're older.

I don't knock anyone for letting their children play specific games like that. I'm more worried about him getting to an age where he can play CoD online. Not for the violence, but for the community that plagues games like that.

He plays fights a ton now and is very good at pretending and realizing when something might hurt someone.

I think the only negative he'd get out of playing/watching HM is that he's already afraid of dogs because of the terrible owners he's come in contact with. Considering how much dogs suck in this game (killing you) I'm sure it could only add to that.

I'm not too worried about him being desensitized (he still cries every time Toothless gets captured in HTTYD) I'm more worried about him playing at school in the wrong way... or what they deem is the wrong way.

Also I don't want him to be one of those annoying 12 year olds that plays Call of Duty. I'm doing my best to clean up the future of online multiplayer, for you guys.

I was playing Grand Theft Auto when I was little bit older than your son. Being eight years old, I had no idea why the car shook if you picked up a girl or what that long purple thing was inside the Police Station.

Hey, don't get me wrong, I was playing Mortal Kombat in the arcades at 8 and I didn't turn into a serial killer. I just don't think my son needs those kind of games right now when there's a bunch of other, more engaging games for him to be playing.

Mario Galaxy is going to be miles better for him than something like Super Meat Boy, for instance. It's not because SMB is uber-violent, it's because he can't enjoy SMB like I can quite yet.

i once watched a 3 year old play GTA VC. I thought it was going to be a joke. Kid was so good he remembered to go on the roof for guns and armor. He wasn't the best at driving, but if he crashed, he knew how to reverse and correct himself.

I was floored.

Don't think I'd let my son tackle that one yet.

no way street fighter is worse than HM

i dont play games when my children are awake or present, let alone violent games

i have a serious question for you

would you let your 6 old watch an R rated movie with tons of nudity and/or sex in it?

I don't think I'll ever witness anything more awkward than a seven year old playing Conker's Bad Fur Day with his parents in the same room.

I guess I wished it was Eden because we've already had Monsters on a portable before.

I think for what I witness my son do and what he picks up, I do think SF is worse for him.

No, i wouldn't let my son watch a rated R movie. I don't personally have a problem with nudity, like breasts, but I wouldn't want him watching a sex scene.

Super excited about PJ Monsters!!!!!

I'm not particularly fond of the other PJ games so I can see why toto might think they're junk but monsters and Eden are awesome!

Day one for me and I've played the ps3 and psp versions AND rainbowed every level on both ps3 and psp. Lol. Looks like I'll be doing it again.

Ya, I'd agree that SF would be worse for my son than HM. The violence is VERY stylized in HM to the point of being unrecognizable in some parts and the drug references would go right over his head. Whereas in SF the violence is detailed and direct.

I did not like PJM at all. I tried it and decided it wasn't my type of tower defense game. Also did not like the artstyle, so that didn't help either.

I bought the PSP version on sale at some point to give it another go on my Vita, thought I'd like it better... but I really have a mental block on the IP and cannot play it.

So this is disappointing news, because Double Eleven's last game was fantastic and something I enjoyed playing.

Gotta start your future drug lord son early, ya know?

As long as he's mature about it and doesn't go to school pretending to shoot stuff you're okay
When I have kids I'll let them play shooters but ill make sure they understand its just a video game and not how one should think or behave in real life

i'm going to be buying mine from bestbuy, maybe today. i'm tired of juggling shit on my two 32gb cards so i'm going to be buying retail for most games from now on.

ahh man - so even with two 32s the juggling doesnt stop?! and i thought i was in the clear with 1... maybe retail is the way to go :(

The juggling isn't the issue. the issue is the saves are locked to the applications and you can't remove the saves to back them up.

But I'm in the mood for a FPS on a handheld, but Killzone: Mercenary is coming out before long. :)

Now I just want VLR, then I got all the Vita games I want. Of course I need to rebuy Uncharted and WipEout someday.

those last 3 are "free" on PS+ , just get that! unless of course you want them for keeps.

im thinking of getting Flying Hamster HD... thoughts?

I only have the original Minis release so far, but I think it's one of the best attempts at a "Cute 'em Up" in a long while. The enemies have personality, the powerups are fun, and the stages actually have some enjoyable designs going for them. And the music is clearly very inspired by shooters of the past, full of energetic themes.

It's not incredibly hardcore, and it's much more of a classic shooter (with reasonable patters) than some crazy bullet-hell, but it's a fun, simple game, that's easily worth the meager asking price.

Actual trophies and a variety of control mapping sweetens the deal.

Pixel Junk Monsters Ultimate HD.

YES! This is amazing news. Sorry that you're disappointed, but I am PUMPED. This is great.

And it's just the start of a multi-game deal so we are likely to get even more Pixel Junk games on Vita.

So crisp, so lovely. Looks like they got rid of the static black bar on bottom. I was worried about that since OLED is more perceptible to burn-in. Very smart.

I bought it -- it's fun and worth the price. It's not going to replace Sine Mora for me as my Vita shmup of choice, but it's a good thing to have on my system.

Some of the trophies are glitchy.

I think, in all honesty, the only PJ game I really liked was Sidescroller.
PJM isn't my type of game and I loathe the art style.
PJS and PJS2 were just boring to me... something didn't click.
PJE I kind of liked, but some of the controls and such got to be a chore so I stopped playing.
Given my love of shmups, PJSidescroller is the closest thing I've seen to the oldschool 2D shmups like Lifeforce and Gradius. I haven't spent nearly enough time with it, but I thought it was a way better use of the assets from PJS.

With my luck, they'll port everything except Sidescroller. :P

I wish Sony could convince Ubisoft to port Heros of Might and magic: clash of heroes to Vita.....I would buy. I would not mind outland either to be honest. Lots of great PSN games I would rebuy on Vita, though yopo would be preferred.

Man, with the Vita we could get a proper Heroes of Might and Magic game, not just a cruddy spinoff. THINK BIG!

so how are people enjoying muramasa. seen a lot of HM impressions...but way less MRebirth talk than i thought.

Have the original Muramasa, it is not a good game, it's not super bad either but it is a game full of problems and new translation or jump button wont really fix that, the bigger issue is that it's insanely repetitive (get boring very fast) with awful lot of backtracking just to rub salt in a wound, the unbalanced boss fights and tedious boring level design and awful sword upgrading system just scream half-assed crap.
