"Amazing anime"... really? Are standards that low?

For whatever reason, this series seems to have cultivated considerable excitement around it. I don't think it's that great, and it's nowhere near being the next Cowboy Bebop or anything, but it's the closest we've had to a breakout hit in Anime in a long time. I'd guess AoT would probably do better on Adult Swim than something like Madoka.

I stopped reading when you said the animation is bad. That's honestly the dumbest thing I've read all day.

What hes probably talking about is the heavy usage of stills. There are even some scenes where they use stills when characters are talking and they don't animate their mouths. The animation when the use the 3D Gears is pretty good but rare, because of the studio's production troubles.

In my opinion, the manga starts strong and then fizzles out due to awful pacing and constantly presenting more questions with no answers in sight.

That game looks terrible but, then again, I'm not a huge fan of the anime. The manga is a bit better but it feels a bit lost now.

The best part about this thread is the moaning it's causing in the NeoGAF Facebook group. Kagari's 1st reply post in particular has ruffled some feathers.

It's not a bad show. But it's not amazing, and certainly not the 'best anime in X years' as some people would say.

Agreed. I like a wide variety of anime, and I do enjoy watching Shingeki no Kyojin... but it's essentially another shounen. I think the last good show I really enjoyed was Sakamichi no Apollon, even if the ending was a bit rushed.

I agree that there has been less animation, but that's most likely due to budget constraints. However, calling the animation bad is asinine.

or some convoluted plot item that gives them greatness

but either way, it was a fucking deus ex machina that completely destroyed the story rather than solving it - which is mildly acceptable

The amount of hate this show gets for not looking traditionally appealing is hilarious, and pretty much exactly what the director intended and expected to happen.

Also, the game mockup is pretty cute.

People could hate it for deviating the style from the source material, or for simply looking bad. Personally I didn't like it because it is very poor rotoscoping. It looks like the whole thing is running at 15FPS or something. I'd rather watch a live action.
