Fighting Games Weekly | June 24-30 | Twitch, pay your paaAAAaartners for god's sake!

Playing through the Megaman X series using three face buttons to the extent that I did several years ago has left my right thumb's base joint permanently injured. It's what got me using stick full-time, even for more than fighting games. It doesn't really hurt anymore, but it still feels kinda off and will start hurting again if I try to play a game that needs me to do more than just hit 1-2 face buttons at a time.

For me it's my left thumb, the muscle at the bottom of the thumb near the palm that tenses up when you clench. Shit's painful D:

I can't play stick because of the muscles in my upper arm that control finger movement upwards no longer work in my right hand.

And by damaged my thumb I mean strained the muscles in it. Which is a bit shocking as I normally play fighting games for hours nonstop....

But yeah Taokaka... oh well it will be worth it in the end lol

I was talking about analog stick.

Really? =O

I've used Pad all my life and I don't have a problem with my thumbs at all right now.I use the area right where my thumb bends itself to play and because it's bony, I haven't had too much of a problem unless I've really gone bananas. I have a bit of a callous there from all the years of play but my hands are fine.

Some new a-cho Guilty Gear videos I got around to watching recently.

The casuals for the GG ranbat that Tizoc posted in his batch. Strong play from Blue's Axl from the start. Those Rensen Geki frcs are so sick. His matches with that Anji were pretty tight. Defure's Faust shows up around 25m in. Ruu's Bridget also plays during the tail end of the video.

Yet another 11 game exhibition featuring Rozu's Ky and Ruu's Bridget. This match up has been my favourite to watch of all the exhibitions they've done at a-cho. The way Ruu negates the use of Ky's 6P is so effective. I think Rozu only got like one 6P antiair in several matches. The one he did get though was pretty sweet. The end of the set is typical Ruu fashion (ie. Timer Scam!)

Love watching a good Bridget. Can't stand Ky, though.

Still, nothing beats watching a master Johnny player. Can still look good even after losing because Johnny is just that awesome. :D Sanma from the GGXX days... <3

Yeah, probably a side effect of my MD reaching that part of my body now. Tao is super spastic too which doesn't help... imagine playing Marvel without having two button command dashes that sums her up...
*triple jumps, double air dash, Drive move is a dash that you change up with different directions and can cancel mid way*

Ah I can't play analog stick it feels super slow to me, wears me out easier too x.x/

I don't think I have ever experienced any hand issues or pain related to fighting games, whether playing on stick or pad. I am a longtime guitar player though so my hands may have already been buffed out by that.

Now I'm curious on Taokaka. The one character that hurt my thumb whenever I used her was I-No.
I only used a pad up until I bought my HRAP2 though, so none of that now.

Ah, that might by why. Makes sense. And yeah, Tao looks freaking spastic. I tried her before and it felt like my hand was turning into a claw and I was on a pad still.

Well I-no would hurt if you are not used to the motion cause of the 322146 motions over and over consistently.

Tao is like pretending you are having a seizure with your thumbs if you want to play her tricky.

She's hard to use for a reason haha.

Hahaha yeah pretty much, but I've always wanted to learn her I just never manned up enough to do it. Finally doing it now

It doesn't matter if I've been playing fighting games for more than half my life, I'm going to get fucked over eventually. Has nothing to do with my hands not being used to stuff. I had to drop stick because of health reasons not because I didn't like it.

It's worse for movement, for which I use the D-Pad (though most times I end up not doing that either, so I'm usually walking a lot).
But doing stuff like 1/4 circles and up are fine, and my thumb lives another day.

Oh, the reason why tao fucked my thumb up WAS movement :P

Anybody lving in SoCal and are still looking for a VH236H? Just wondering because the Level Up might be having a sale soon now that they've been officially sponsored by BenQ. Or maybe you should get a BenQ instead since that's what they'll be promoting from now on. I don't know anything about the quality of BenQ monitors, but I'm happy to hear Alex and company getting a big sponsor on board.

Yuki Terumi, the true form of Hazama, is playable for the first time in BlazBlue: Chronophantasma. He can use his Force Eater drive skill to siphon Heat Gauge meter from other players. This will give Yuki a chance to do one of his four Distortion Drives. Yuki’s overdrive Nightmare Reaper enhances the effect of his drive attack and the power of his Distortion Drives.

Holy shit that sounds awesome

and damn guess the BBCP story mode is going to cover the light novels :P

I had wondered what version you had. Congenital, here. My condolences.

And yeah, I could never use a stick either due to my own issues and the way my hands are....turned, for lack of a better term. That and the contractions in the muscles.

It's why I was always bitter that there was no way to change which two button combination triggers focus attacks in SF4.

Ky is my dude so I like watching his play.

My memories of XX are really hazy but was Sanma always a Johnny player?

You're basically paying to work there. Most people think it's scummy to do that.
The Cutco reference is the first one that came to mind but it applies to any situation.

You're right, It wasn't promised by Big E, as far as we know, that we could cover the costs to stream. That's my bad for not putting more time into my response. I should get my work done before posting. But still, it doesn't make it any less OK for Big-E to do it.

I should have framed my point more clearly. The reason I think folks have problems with TOs is not because they earn money on these events but because they believe TOs aren't executing these events with transparency and that folks involved aren't getting what they deserve. The Revelations folks is one example, Jaxel is another example because even if he doesn't have the right to get pay for his work there, he doesn't deserve to be paying the event to do it, regardless of if allowed it to occur or if he ended up doing it anyway.

I guess we're just seeing this from different mindsets.

I've covered photography for a bunch of tournaments. Sometimes it's out of my own interest, since I'm there playing anyway. Sometimes a TO asks me to come out. My relationship with LocalBattles is a perfect example of this. A lot of the photos I've taken for them were just for the hell of it after I went 0-2 like I do. But when other events rolled around and they wanted me to come out specifically for photos, we worked out an agreement.

I love covering events. The FGC is unbelievably fun, despite the way some might like to paint it, and I think it's great to be able to capture a perspective that even people at the event don't even necessarily get to see. But if a TO asks me to come out and work for them and cover their event, I at least need my expenses covered or I can't do it. I've requested that, and I've gotten that. Apex 2012, Apex 2013, ECT V and hopefully a lot more to come. I know I can't ask anything close to market rates (go ask a working photog how much he'd charge for 40+ hours of shooting over 3 days~~) ... but I know I deserve better than to take a hit to do it. I don't beg for it, or suck it up and take the hit when an agreement can't be reached, because I know I bust my ass and deliver something few other people can.

If someone doesn't want to cover me for that ... thanks, but no thanks. It's not scummy, because in my books it's a nonstarter.

TO's charge money because they're providing a service to players ... I charge money because I'm providing a service to TO's. I'm not making bank. I haven't really made any money at all ... in fact, I'm in the hole from covering tournaments (my own fault; dropped a camera at Apex). But it's definitely not because I'm taking a hit just to do work.

I guess the flip side of that is that I don't have long-standing ties to the community the way someone like Jaxel does. I enjoy it, I participate in it, but it's not some deeply ingrained part of who I am ... and that can certainly affect how you see things.

Yeah I know, I hate a lot of the ports iron galaxy does because they don't have button input macros that most games have as a standard.
Haha I still remember the match between Sanma and Daigo Umehara.

She always looked scary in high level play but in BBCP she seems even more brutal now.

Seems like a lot of East Coasters aren't going to CEO. Isn't that ironic?

I can at least see things from Sp00ky's perspective. He has a lot of work to do before EVO.

I guess we're just seeing this from different mindsets.

That's definitely a part of it. I'm looking at this from a lot of perspectives. It's lead to how I feel about the direct situation and what it means for the community as a whole. As foolish as someone would be for putting themselves in the position Jaxel did, that can at least be seen as the issues of a single person and only reflects them alone. But a TO's actions may have a lot more weight just because of the situation they are in. They're doing real business with multiple parties, they're the ones running the events for the community, etc. What they do is more likely to affect everyone around them. It's a big reason why I've been on TOs in that thread and this a bit quite.

I'd be on Jaxel more but be he has been posting and running which makes it difficult to get on his case. Also, the stupid stuff he's done is kind of obvious. But I do think he's getting treated pretty unfairly. He runs his stream damn well, it looks like he's run it at a lot of events without many problems, and he does a lot of community stuff. When you think about it, if Jaxel hasn't had problems with other events except for this one instance, is it only because of him or are there other factors? And no, I'm not talking about an illuminati. =P

If someone doesn't want to cover me for that ... thanks, but no thanks. It's not scummy, because in my books it's a nonstarter.

If you knew before the event a TO wouldn't cover your costs, it's not scummy. I'd agree with that. But what if that wasn't the scenario? What if you found out the day of that you had to cover these costs yourself? If you decided not to do the event as a result, it would deprive a community of the chance to promote their game. How about that situation? What are you thoughts on it?

Regardless of the situation, I think the responsibility having a net connection is on the TO. If the streamer is working for free, then that's all the TO has to provide. If the streamer has to provide the connection to stream, then the fees should be paid for or be a part of the compensation. In any case, it's something that the TO should bear regardless of if he's getting free help or not. Otherwise it's making someone else pay to make your event a success and they get nothing.

I guess the flip side of that is that I don't have long-standing ties to the community the way someone like Jaxel does. I enjoy it, I participate in it, but it's not some deeply ingrained part of who I am ... and that can certainly affect how you see things.

Yeah, not having a vested interest in the community changes the perspective one can have. I'm not invested in the FGC even though I've participated for a long time. I think it's because of that that I'm willing to point out that some of what these TOs are saying are pretty silly and unreasonable.

Crazy Joe vs. Lariat is a 0-10 match up.
Crazy Joe vs. Armor is a 1-9 match up.

Also Sp00ky said they might do another Kings of Poverty this summer.

EDIT: Bum is at NLBC.
