Index (Atlus) entering into a restructuring bankruptcy; looking to transfer/sell

Got me there. Could be reason enough for them to make an invest though since its been so long (especially with talk of trying to make SCEJ relevant again).

But to be honest, I don't want either Sony or Nintendo to be potential buyers. I just want a company that will essentially keep Atlus the same as they are now and let them make games for whatever system they want to.

Yeah, I don't see either Sony/Nintendo buying them.

honestly all this talk of Tecmo Koei getting the company has me worried slightly, I like TK dont get me wrong but on handhelds they aren't that great at bringing games from Japan over here, even a main series like Samurai Warriors latest installments aren't even out here both 3DS and PS3.

TK has been one of the most (if not the most) supportive publisher for the Vita. They've published the two NG games, both Atelier Plus games, DoA5 and they will be publishing Toukiden in Winter.

Well, as far as Samurai Warriors go, they weren't "main series" games. Chronicles 2 was just an updated Chronicles 1, not a completely new game (stages, and story sequences covering the same material were taken straight from the first game, rather than redone). Same goes to Z/XL (updated 3), although I guess one could argue about 3 Empires. Still, it was clearly based on 3 too.

I know it's a joke but had to XD

Man I really need to get round to watching Dragon Ball Z.

All these Sony and Nintendo posts make me sad. Why not a 3rd party publisher instead?

To be honest I think that Nintendo is the best bet to buy Atlus since they have more money and having the Persona and Shin Megami Tensei IP wouldn't hurt them, hell it might help sell the Wii U. Though if Sony was smart they would buy it and make it a Vita exclusive IP only.

Is that... a bear joke?

I really don't want Sony to pick up Atlus, I want to see what FE x SMT is/was all about. ;(

Even if Sony bought them I don't see what effect it would have on FE x SMT without Nintendo saying so. They (Index/Atlus) have a contract with Nintendo. Even if Sony became the owner of the company they just couldn't nullify it.

When was the last time Nintendo bought a developer?

mmm I don't know. You're probably right, it'll be like Starfox Adventures, but then again if it's not far enough along it might not happen.

In the Japanese version Teddie's verbal tic has him ending his sentences with kuma. Yosp is just imitating Teddie saying "hang in there".

The Yoshida tweet is him saying "Hang in there" in the same speech pattern that Teddie used in the Japanese version of P4. It's clearly an answer to that earlier tweet from the Persona PR team.

No doubt, they have been great at Vita support, though I do wish the Atelier games had physical releases. My point was more to the 3DS though and SW 2nd Chronicle not being released here on even the DW 3DS game.

I'm gonna have to disagree, there's no doubt DW is the main series but I feel SW is big enough to be classed a main series too.

I want the Vita and Wii U to be succesful and all (more so the latter though), but either platform holder buying Index would be to further their own goals and fans to the detriment of other gamers. I mean if there is a choice between Atlus dying and being acquired by Sony or Nintendo, a first party buying them is the way to go. Ideally it'd be a 3rd party publisher though

So it'll be "Hang in there, kuma" I guess...
The only digital Vita game from them so far was Totori+. Then again I'd rather have localized digital games than games not coming to the West at all, like it could be the case with Scamco.

True but if you were a fan of DW series etc in the west a load of their games have become digital only so =/

I'm fine with either Sony or Nintendo buying them out since i have their consoles but some third party publisher is most likely to purchase them. Will it be a high profile publisher like Capcom or Square? I don't know, probably not since their games are pretty niche. They sell well for niche games though but they still ain't very big titles.

I don't really care about who buy them too as long as their creative freedom are intact.

It doesn't matter how far along it is. What might happen is that Nintendo just struck a deal with Sony to receive money as a compensation for nullifying that contract. That is of course not an option since Nintendo is involved in the development too (Intelligent Systems) and wasted resources alone would make it too expensive for Sony.

Well, I meant that those weren't completely new standalone titles. The non localized games are new versions of games that have been localized, rather than completely new products.

I'm not sure whether it's clear whether Nintendo really bought them or if Namco just sold them and Nintendo happened to buy them, if that even makes a difference. In any case that happened 6 years ago.

Nintendo traded their worthless Bandai shares for Monolith (more or less).

.

SRW is a really niche series in a niche segment, though. I doubt anyone else would localize and publish it either.

This might have to do with SCEA's policy about games that aren't in English. Ken's Rage 2 and Warriors Orochi 3 got retail releases on 360 (as did WO3 Hyper for Wii U), but were digital only on PS3.

This is the single most important thing. I don't care what consoles Atlus games will be released on as long as they can continue making games the way they are used to. A 3rd party is not per default better to me just because it means Atlus will continue to develop multiplatform. I actually couldn't care less if they are exclusive to a single platform or not.

Still, I'd like to see SMT x FE first. This has the potential to be really interesting, I think. And I'm not as confident as Sendoku about its fate -- it's entirely dependent on the contract between both parties and a sudden bankruptcy/change of ownership can change a lot of things.
