Index (Atlus) entering into a restructuring bankruptcy; looking to transfer/sell

If there ever was a need for a kickstarter rescue fund, this was it.

That being said, Atlus have an inmense value as a developers, I am sure that there will be more than enough buyers interested on them. Atlus becoming the first party of one major hardware developer would be huge news and we all know it.

They are $15 million in debt. Good luck with that.

What what? Am I missing something? Did Square-enix just announce Dragon Quest localizations? Or Namco, Digimon Re: Digitize? Or Did Capcom suddenly decide to develop MML3 after all? Or is ubisoft still coming with Assassin's Creed 3DS? Level-5's titles Layton vs PW, Fantasy Life, Yokai Watch are all coming soon, right?

You missed that all of Atlus' 3DS games are super-niche outside of Japan. They are attractive to GAFers like us, but in bigger picture the games make absolutely no difference.

Bravely Default is coming. Layton 6 too. Capcom will bring AA5, and certainly MH4 too.
And don't count out titles like DQVII and Layton v.s. AA, since Nintendo wants to bring the Japanese titles with the biggest sales potential in the West, so...

These days, Dragon Quest might as well be a first party IP for Nintendo.

Isn't Bravely Default getting localized by Nintendo itself though?

All these developers support the 3DS in the west, you're ignoring Theatrythm, Bravely Default(coming up), Layton and the Miracle Mask, Layton and the Azran Legacy, RE: Revelations, Ace Attorney, Monster Hunter Ultimate 3, Rayman Origins on 3DS, Batman Arkham Origins 3DS from Warner as well, Sonic Lost World from Sega, ...

There are a lot of third party support for the 3DS in the West.

What about Sega? Marvelous / Neverland? Disney Interactive Studios? Capcom? Warner Bros.? Activision?

Did all of those companies just magically disappear overnight? :-P

They didn't but I can say they are invisible anyway. None of them made a blockbuster as big as SMT4 and none of them released 4 exclusive 3DS titles a year like Atlus.

Sega's Lost World will be ignored just like Generations had been.

Marvelous? Seriously? Where the hell is Senran Kagura?

Disney only produces shovelware (planes?) and Activision is non existent on the system (no Call of Duty? after all the great DS games?)

Capcom is the only good one among them, they are releasing AA5, but that won't mean that they are good, MML3 is still cancelled and they never even thought of localizing EX Troopers.

Atlus is waaaay better 3rd party supporting 3DS than those above. They never left anything un localized, they even localize other japanese titles. 3DS seriously needs them in west.

If this is "good" support, than 3rd party support in Japan right now is "absolutely amazing"

You are joking aren't you? Generations outsold all of Atlus' 3DS games combined.

I agree with you that the loss of Atlus' games would be tragic and they are probably the company with the most quality 3DS games in the pipeline. However, your "Without Atlus, Nintendo is lost" angle is not only hyperbole at its finest, but flat out wrong. Arguing that way you are entering a sales discussion and sales-wise the games don't make lot of a difference.

I have a feeling Nintendo might buy them since they've had a good relationship lately (SMT4, SMT vs FE).

That and the fact that they're desperate for Wii U games.

Sonic's Lost World will likely sell more on 3DS than any Atlus title.

Atlus' support for 3DS is certainly appreciated, but there's no way it's what's keeping the 3DS alive in the west. That's some ridiculous level of hyperbole.

Since FE crossover seems early, wasn't nintendo even slightly aware of that situation when the project began?
Maybe they were, and that's why they signed the deal in the first place?

They most likely were aware of the issues (Index has been struggling for a while), and they certainly have mechanisms in place to protect their investment.

Ok, I admit I exaggerated a little bit, but I was right nonetheless. They are the best one supporting Nintendo, they have localized over 30 titles for DS and they continue to do so for 3DS. They actually believed in handhelds when no one else did. Nintendo might not lose without them but Atlus's absence will be obvious.

Atlus, in its current form, was the reason for me to use US PSN on my Vita. If things significantly change I might go for EU PSN+ (already have it on the PS 3).

Does this mean it would be a good idea to buy Growlanser and Gungnir now, or rather soon?

If Atlus is gone, Nintendo, especially Nintendo 3DS would truly be without 3rd party support.

It means Atlus dies, 3DS dies too. Good to know you 3DS and whole Nintendo handheld department.

What...

I was talking about west. 3DS still has a pretty good 3rd party support in Japan. In west only company supporting 3DS is Atlus right now. MH has no effect whatsoever.

...fuck.

I guess 3DS is dead in Europe then :(

Fuck, this is terrible. I hope Atlas can somehow recover. They still need to release Persona 5!
Maybe GAF should pool their money together and buy them.
