Well it would probably be better for Europe, but please no 1st party.

Edit:Persona 5 would be 3DS if nintendo bought them.
I wouldn't be so sure. Not if the developers can explain why it needs to be on a home console. X looks like Nintendo has no problem investing significant amounts of money in a console RPGs - probably much more than Atlus ever spent on a game.

No. No one wants to buy a WiiU to play Persona. Would you buy a Vita just to play EO?

As has been said millions of times in this thread third party is the best option.

Yes, but now you would have 2 games coming for WiiU: SMT x FE and P5. Plus, any other console game they would make would be WiiU. And, every portable game would be 3ds. In effect, you would only need 2 platforms for ATLUS games.

I think the best option would be a 3rd party investment, but a Nintendo one would not be the end of the world. Remember, they are already working with ATLUS and are even publishing a mainline game in NA.

Eh, I think that might be a bit of a stretch. While Atlus are doing awesome things for 3DS, I think Nintendo recognizes what certain teams provide for different consoles. Monolith is far more niche than Atlus, but they're still letting them go nuts with the Wii and Wii U.

I'm probably the one person on the board that would enjoy that. MegaTen games on HD consoles and PC instead of crappy handhelds? Yes please! In all seriousness, I would love for someone like Sega/Sammy to step in if they have the cash and it makes sense to them. They would probably continue to serve the current fanbase on handhelds and their PC friendliness means that they would entertain thoughts of releasing games like Persona 5 on Steam..

If it came down to it, Sega is probably one of the worst scenarios. We would probably be looking at localizations that take years if they even get localized.

Again, in the last thread it was said that neither did Sony.

They weren't. The management of Index did illegal actions, got caught, and this is the results.

Well, technically, the illegal actions were taken because they were struggling. From my understanding, they were covering up losses and inflating their stock price by shifting money around the books of their subsidiaries.

Did you not read the first post? We know that the Atlus division was actually profitable. The problem was everything else.
I did. It doesn't say profitable anywhere there so that's why I didn't use that word.
Watch Square Enix buy them.

I hope not. Imagine Persona and SMT on iOS lol

There already are mobile SMT games. The main problem is that I just can't see Square keeping Atlus' current console/portable output. Low budget games with modest sales just don't seem to hold any interest to modern Square.

I meant exclusively for iOS :p

But yeah, I can totally see Square restructuring Atlus, if they end up buying them that is. Maybe it's not in Square's best interest to buy them anyways if that's the case with modern Square.

This is just about the shittiest game-related news I can think of. I sincerely hope the Atlus we all know and love survives this reasonably intact. Atlus USA, too.

It's sad, we're finally getting some Atlus love in Europe and then they are about to die?!
Surely Nintendo won't buy them, they don't really need a studio making niche games. Maybe Square? Ouch...

well it will be weird but I can totally see Nintendo trying to sell the Wii U as the best secondary system by using niche titles

My 'dream outcome' is that Marvelous buys them and merges them with XSEED creating a powerhouse publisher with double the production capability. Fans would get the best of both worlds - the quality and reach of Atlus to bring more franchises coupled with the quirkiness of XSEEDs unorthodox publishing choices and great CEs.

Edit: I'm speaking about the North American branch only, obviously

I can see Sony buying them up and having all the 3DS games on Vita and its sequels. That would boost sales for Vita in Japan by a big margin. But I think that MS would snatch the, up first, Nintendo doesn't care tbh

omfg yes but I want the name to remain Atlus kinda.

or they stay seperate and collaborate a lot.

PLEASE

That doesn't mean they are not willing to buy one if the right opportunity presents itself.
Sure, but it's difficult to see what's happening here as being the "right" opportunity. And even still if it was, Nintendo would be FAR more likely to jump on it than either MS or Sony given they already pump significantly more investment into the Japanese development industry (both internally and externally) and actually have a co-production track record with Atlus (Sparkle Snapshots, SS3D, SMTxFE).

well......Historically, Sony and Microsoft have never bought a Japanese third party. Nintendo already has with Monolith Soft. They are already working together with Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem anyways.

Nintendo has a Wii U exclusive (Fire Emblem X MegaTen) riding on Atlus not going to another first-party company. They sure as hell would care.

Sony doesn't seem to care much about Japan though, that's the problem. In terms of industry investment they're like a step up from Microsoft and orders of magnitude behind Nintendo.

Whoever buys them needs to leave them be. It's in everyone's best interest if they can carry on as normal. This means no platform exclusivity, no annual releases of franchises and definitely no changes to game content.

I think it would be naive to say that all 3, and especially Sony and Nintendo, are not looking at it as a potential opportunity. Nintendo will likely go for it until the price is not right for them. Anything over 1B Yen and I think they pull out, it's not in their ethos to pay big amounts of money for anything. Sony is far more likely to go for it if Nintendo goes for it, IMO. They already lost MH and DQ to Nintendo for the time being, losing Persona and SMT to them forever would be something they would not want. If Nintendo doesn't go for it, I see Sony trying to make a bid, but not being aggressive. MS probably doesn't care either way. Sony needs Atlus more than Nintendo needs Atlus IMO.
