Cool stuff. All of my bands from high school seem to be releasing things this year :)

Did you know the artic monkeys formed their band before they knew how to play instruments ? They ended up sounding really original for doing that.

Alex looks ridiculous in that image. :lol

If possible, I thought the QOTSA influence was more evident than usual even on Do I Wanna Know? Can't wait for the new album and more importantly for another tour.

First two albums were stellar...then its been patchy. Difficult third album and all that

Agreed with the above in that I'm more interested in another Shadow Puppets effort

Humbug >

Suck It and See was easily their worst, but I've enjoyed the 2 tracks released so far for the new one.

Not sure about R U Mine? being on there, feel that is a little too old now to really be included - hopefully they record a new version of it.

Otherwise, I trust Alex. Some of those titles sound great.

I used to see Alex Turner at Hillsborough, used to sit a couple of seats away from me. This was before he dissapeared up his own arse, mind.

I know they can't sing about being 17 year olds for their whole life but hoping for a bit of a return to the sound of the first two albums rather than Humbug and Suck It and See.

Excellent!

I love this band so much, Alex is an incredible lyricist and a distinctive vocalist, Matt is a demon on the tubs and Jamie and Nick and perfectly capable musicians I guess.

Suck It And See > Favourite Worst Nightmare > Whatever People Say... > Humbug

I loved every album they've released. They're by far my favorite band to see live -- done it 7 times or so at this point. Always a fucking raucous experience.

I've loved all their albums, plus The Last Shadow Puppets and the Submarine soundtrack so I can't wait. The songs they've already released are really good, too.

My man, I adore that movie.
Wrong. So wrong.

I miss old Arctic Monkeys songs about shit nights out and scummy towns, Whatever People Say I Am is my favourite album ever. Turner pls.
They grew up man, they can't use that as their inspiration forever.

"Whatever" was exactly that, a bunch of teenagers singing about being a bunch of teenagers.

"Nightmare" was them getting all nonchalant and snarky about their new found fame and tales of touring.

"Humbug" was just a crazy "desert sessions" peyote headtrip.

"Suck It" was just a grown up collection of proper songs with a wide palette of styles and influences.

They are getting better and better, I can't wait.

want their old shit buy their old albums yo
They do so much better by not making the same album again and again

I love all the albums, since Whatever, but Humbug is my fave - I don't think the second half of that album can be beaten. (Don't hurt me).

By the way, the last song "I Wanna Be Yours" seems like it could be a cover of the John Cooper Clarke poem, or at least use a sample of it. That would be interesting, definitely sounds very Alex.

I love all of their albums, so I can't wait. The aggression of Nightmare is great, but so is the drunken romance of Suck It. Love is a Laserquest is gorgeous.

Hahaha, I don't think I'm making friends in this thread :P I'm sure Sheffield's lovely really, and if its any consolation I've always prefered the Owls

Well recovered.. ;D

Jarvis Cocker once said "Sheffield is a shit hole but it's my shit hole", and for me that's always resonated right. I love this place but it is what it is. I think a lot of people feel like that. The Arctic Monkeys always seem to remember home even though they fucked off at the first possible opportunity.

The Last Shadow Puppets - The Chamber

Godly.

I might make an Arctic Monkeys OT a month or so before the new album come out. OP, do you object? I don't want to step on your toes if you had any plans to do one.

Perfect description.

See, you and me have plenty of musical interests in common XANDER!

I don't listen to this kind of music really but for some reason I like the song 505. It's mesmerizing or something. Just saw the thread title and felt like popping in to say that.

I actually got slight goosebumps seeing "505" in your post, it's just one of those tracks for me:

"But I crumble completely when you cry,
It seems like once again you've had to greet me with goodbye,
I'm always just about to go and spoil a surprise,
Take my hands off of your eyes too soon,

I'm going back to 505,
If it's a 7 hour flight or a 45 minute drive,
In my imagination you're waiting lying on your side,
With your hands between your thighs,
And a smile."

Just the timing of that last line, as if he's finally arrived, and been greeted by her smile.

The guy is a lyrical savant.

I don't even know what it is tbh, like I said I don't listen to this stuff. I think it was because the first time I heard it it was really late at night and you know when you're in that "mood" and you're just VIBING. It fit the mood perfectly.

Perfect combo of lyrics/delivery/beat.

Saw them last Saturday and it was glorious!
Can't wait for their new album. Already dig 3 of 12 songs from it.

I personally feel they're this close from losing their edge they had when they released their first two albums.
Lyrics are getting worse and songs become really predictable. I started to love them for their little surprises and weird structures back then.

Here's hoping for more amazing songs like Dance Little Liar

Great track.

Though I can't agree about the songs becoming predictable. If you look at Suck It, there are some really interesting songs there sonically.

I'm mainly concerned with everything post-SIAS.
Like Evil Twin, You and I (!) and even R U Mine?
I know the first two are B-Sides and they were fooling around having fun.. but the trend of poor(er) lyrics continued with DIWK and Mad Sounds.

Mind, I still like those songs. Just hope Alex didn't forget how to write proper lyrics when he oiled his quiff :)

Daft Punk, Kanye and Arctic Monkeys new records.

Good year.

Hopefully this one will deliver beyond doubt tho. AM is my favorite band <3

Whatever People...
Humbug
Suck it
Favorite Worst Nightmare

It's law, people. But I love them all. FWN is not the worst, just the 4th best. Some of my favourite songs ever came out of that album.

Actually, scratch that. I can't rank the albums.

Too bad I probably won't get to see them this year.

From the first two songs I'm looking forward to the style of this album.

Suck It and See was great and I really love the last half of that album. Humbug grew on me but I still agree with the criticism that it was a bit too QotSA.

Same day as the new Arcade Fire album? Artists this year are having a real hard time distancing themselves from other albums.

That's exactly it.

I appreciate they're not 17 and have different influences and things to write about, but it was their quirks as much as their energy that drew me in originally

"And I'm so tense, never tenser...Could all go a bit Frank Spencer"? is a great fucking lyric. And their first couple of albums were stuffed with them. Now its very polished, slick and a bit more generic (and I dislike that word)
