Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS: Info Collection - Dojo, Mega Man and Trailer! 2014!

The colors of the ropes are pretty similar of the smash bros ring.

Great find.

Nice catch, I think that settles it.

Yup, only punch out has boxing rings that look like that.

That's just a standard boxing ring.

The fact that they HAVE a boxing ring probably says little mac's inclusion is likely. The fact that there are ZERO punch out references in the ring are a little disconcerting though.

Have there been any other franchises who had their stages smash-ified (Smash brothers logos everywhere instead of logos/names from the respective IP)?

Fire emblem was made generic, but it still didn't have the smash ball on flags or something.

They'd probably make sure to have as few overt references to Punch-Out as possible in related media before the actual Little Mac character reveal.

Do you think they'll change the stage up once Little mac is revealed? I mean, you can even see the 'SMASH BROS' on the banners in the pre-rendered CG part where villager appears.

I'm not saying this proves little mac WONT be in smash, i'm just saying it doesn't prove he will be at all.

Well for once I think it makes sense to Smash Bros brand the stage. It's the Smash Bros tournament rather than the Punch Out World Circuit tournament.

Remember when Animal Crossing actually got a character in the series?

Not in Brawl.

It was a foregone conclusion in the Dojo days that Animal Crosser or Tom Nook would join the cast of Brawl because Smashville had its own logo, and up to that point only franchises with playable character got a logo on the dojo.

Guess we gotta post this again.

First off, the audience is human, so you can rule out any possibility that this is a Kirby themed stage (all Kirby boxing rings have Kirby characters instead). The marquee's in the background are all dot styled, which is consistent with the marquees in Punch Out Wii, and even the title screen and round indicators for Mike Tyson's Punch Out.

All logos in Punch Out Wii are adorned with clusters of stars, which are usually in 3's because triple star punches are the most powerful punch in the game, as well as the "leaf vines" on the sides (forgive me; I don't know the term for this) and a ribbon at the top. The logo in the ring, while being smash themed, shares all of these characteristics.

The ring ropes are also identical in both color and configuration as the Major Circuit ring in Punch Out Wii. Similarly, the corners are all identical colors and positions as the Punch Out Wii corners.

Also, it's worth noting that the final fight in Punch Out Wii, Mr. Sandman, has a very particular entrance for both his Title Defense and Contender fights. He approaches the ring while there's a green laser light show that goes on behind him. Well, check this out...

Same green laser show.

It would be real silly to think this is not a Punch Out themed stage. There is an abundance of intentional details that suggest otherwise.

Thank you, I had not seen that post. It does help solidify little mac, but it could also just be using punch out's ring as a basis. I'm rooting for mac!

I wouldn't say it confirms Little Mac in any way just that it pretty much confirms a "Smash Bros. Circuit" Punch Out stage.

Probably increases his chances though.

You're not the only one. Mac is one of my most wanted new reps alongside Isaac/Matthew, Sukapon, and somebody from Custom Robo.

Well I was just posting one example of the great arrangements of the theme and just how flexible it is which your post further shows. What I'd really want is one that reflects Smash. Now we don't really know what style Smash U will take but using Brawl as an example it would be rather operatic take on them theme with Latin chanting.

Or if it was really cool (and they had the time) the theme reflects whoever is winning so Latin ragtime rhythms for Mario, epic orchestral for Link and beeps and boops for G&W.

I hate how Pikachu lost all personality in the transition to 3D in recent gens. It now has the same stupid grin on its face in way too many situations.

Pokémon X & Y said:

Shouldn't a wild Pokémon jumping out of the grass at me have some kind of non-grinny expression?

Compare this to Pikachu in the anime, manga, and even in Pokémon Yellow:

And now we have this...

It's either supremely lazy or an overbearing branding decision. Either way, I'm not a fan.

Is Pikachu really still using Skull Bash?

I thought that would have been the best candidate to be replaced with something else.

Not a fan if they use the Latin theme again.

But that would be really neat if they could do it.

I doubt they'd show pictures of unfinished assets.

Anything can change.

I also remember a big deal being made about Fox having his blaster out at all times (video), but that ended up being changed for release.

I do hope that Pikachu gets some more facial expressions, though, and I'm confident that he will.

Yeah, it looks to me that Pikachu's facial expressions are not done yet. Having the same face for everything doesn't look right.

About the boxing ring stage, I find it ironic that it would most likely get banned from tournament play even though it's the most "competitive looking" stage shown thus far. This will be because of the permanent walls (unless wall infinites are not possible anymore, like it was in Smash 64) and it seemingly being a walk-off stage (autoban if true). =P

Wait was Fox holding the blaster at all times? ^^

Yes, when he was first revealed, I think even official sources (such as perhaps Sakurai, the official website at the time, or Nintendo Power) mentioned something about his blaster being out. I think people assumed that it would change his moveset a bit, but as we all know, Fox ended up putting it back in his holster by the time the game released.

I hope they don't forget Wario Land Shake Dimension for the Wii U version :(

More worthy of representation than Game and Wario imo. (I hope it's not the death knell of the Wario Land series)

What's odd about the old Pit render is that it seems to predate the first ever trailer. If you rewatch it the model was already looking closer to the newer render.

As long as they keep in the Assault Star Wold theme and put in the Uprising Dark Pit theme I will be very pleased. If they could maybe keep a few of the nice original tracks from the Subspace Emissary stages they could complete the holy trinity of awesome spaghetti western Nintendo themes.
