Mewtwo doesn't have any particular claim to fame over any other high-end legendary, such as Ho-oh, Groudon, Dialga, and so forth. He is ultimately associated with just the Generation 1 games. He might be relevant again with the new form, but we don't know anything at all about that form, or how it is used in Pokemon X/Y. As such, we can't make many assumptions.
I don't see any particular reason to list him separately from the other pokemon who have appeared in Smash Bros.
Gotta keep them for as long as you can and their powers will rise and then go down.
T-turnips? Peach? =O
Charizard and Mewtwo in one game....so good....
There are turnips in Animal Crossing.![]()
I had a dream where Peach was confirmed for Smash, I have no idea why.

EDIT: Beaten like a red-headed stepchild with a foul mouth.
If only Charizard was a real, separate character...
and good =(
Mewtwo is still very popular and relevant, it even got a new exclusive move with the Gen V games. It's also gotten TCG tins recently and they advertise him quite a bit there compared to other legendaries (Rayquaza is with him on that part), he's had a few cameos in some of the later movies as well. (Darkrai, Destiny Deoxys)
He almost won a popularity contest a year ago on Pokemon.com, but Mew ended up being the victor.

I am perfectly happy with Charizard, Squirtle, and Ivysaur being part of a team under Pokemon Trainer as they are. I would be disappointed to see them split up into separate characters.
Popular yes, relevant no.
He is just as relevant as every other legendary.
In game you catch him and do nothing
In movie he either
a) messes stuff up, undoes the mess and leaves
or
b) fights another legendary and we find out the other legendary is not a bad guy, the fight stops and he leavs
Or secret answer
C) Is a tiny fairy that grants wishes or has sometype of special abilities and bonds with a child before ash teams up with it to save the world
Legendary are not that relevant in the grand scheme of Pokemon.

I would be okay if they switched Pokemon Trainer's Pokemon to a newer generation.
Gen One gets a huge amount of representation, it's time to diversify a little.
He gained Psystrike while no other legendary gained a new move with Gen V. He's also getting a brand new form, despite being a Gen I Pokemon and being the star of yet another Pokemon movie. I'd say that's some what relevant.
He's also been in Smash previously, and isn't a clone.
And you still really cannot do anything with him, he is a super frivolous trophy in a game that is filled with frivolous trophies.
A brand new form is nice, if that form is somehow un-legendary that will make him super relevant yes.
As far the pokemon movie goes, zoroark was also a star of a movie.( im sorry i keep shitting on that pokemon.
I'm not understanding what you're trying to say exactly. Are you saying Legendary = not relevant?
And my point about the movie was that he is a Gen I Pokemon starring in another movie, it's not the same by comparison to Zoroark.
Poor zoroark. Being event exclusive for a while and having sub par stats probably didn't help it's popularity. Oh well at lease zoura is still loved.
I'm kind of curious how Pokemon representation is going to go about. Lucario was a known entity for years prior to Brawl's release, way longer than anything from Gen 6 has in terms of SSB4's release. I don't think a Gen 6 rep is a forgone conclusion and I would not count Gen 5 out yet.

Did you not see Sakurai's interview on the subject? Because X & Y aren't out yet, he's going to use upcoming promotion, movies and anime episodes to determine what Pokemon is going to be relevant going forward. That strongly implied X & Y representation, although it could be just Mewtwo's new form (Movie, new tv special).

It'd be nice if we could have one rep per generation, but brawl repped gen 1 3 times and gen 4 w/ lucario, but no gen 2/3 reps other thank pokeballs.
Can't really cut pikachu/Jiggly, so we're already double dipping, and I think 7+ pokemon reps would be pretty bad.
Or Sylveon (movie, always in the anime, flagship new type bearer)
You can't put ONE Eevee form without fan outrage that they chose the wrong one.
Muppet pokemon lets go!

You can't put ONE Eevee form without fan outrage that they chose the wrong one.
Then the solution would be to put in flareon.
Pikachu's more of a general franchise rep since he's the series mascot, and you could make the case that Pokemon Trainer is a gen 3 rep since he has his FR/LG design![]()
Is it true that there is a Smash fan or fans that like ALL of Nintendo stuff and is knowledgeable to their inner workings (i.e. a Pokefan, Zelda fan, Mairo fan, etc.)? Because I like Smash but you won't see me liking all of the featured franchises.

People still making this mistake to this day!?If Sheik weren't part of the Zelda character, he would have ended up here (a one-off minor character).
People still making this mistake to this day!?
There's still no specific answer on if Zelda literally transforms into another person or if she's just disguised.
Hell the manga actually had Shiek be a unique male character that Zelda was transformed into for her own protection without any memory of Zelda.
It also doesn't really matter all that much![]()
