I am with you completely. I really like the game but i was disappointed when i took the air ship and it just loaded the next city. Same with the ferry.

I dislike wow a lot but for me on the of the good things it did was the traveling. the tram for example between ironforge and stormwind was fantastic. I want more stuff like that.

They know how the craft a world, or at least did. Stuff like making a world so big and fluid that people want to go eng just for the extra cool teleport. Too bad stuff like that is disappearing from modern mmos. Direct leveling paths without an ounce of danger and instant travel anywhere. Like they are afraid to leave you alone in the world they made or you might miss some of the content they created.

Yea agred. Ill take the Ultima online model any day of the week. But i am in the minority these days.

Anyway i ve stopped playing basically because i do not want to see the content since i am planning on playing this. Do we know if they ll put in the VO with phase 4?

I believe 2 more weekends before the wipe

Thanks, I'll get to play more then! :)

Any tips on the Gridania story mission To Guard a Guardian?

The guy battling the Ixali leader keeps dying and I can't find a way to stop it happening. I've tried healing him with Cure, I've tried killing the enemies, the boss... each approach utterly fails. He just keeps dying :( My character barely gets hit, though...

All versions of pc pre orders on square's site is "sold out", even the digital downloads version. Does anyone have any idea if they'll be getting more in stock at this point or will the best route be buying elsewhere?

edit: Never mind, the pc downloads seem to be back up.

do you have to choose one of those for second job? or can you get all those at the same time?

You can get all of them. Just talk to the NPC in each Guild to unlock the class, and then travel to the specific NPC. Really opens up a lot of customization for your build. I love having Thunder on my CNJ. Pairs well with Aero when swapping into Cleric Stance.

This is just a beta thing right?

That's how it is early on. The first dozen + are usually just to get you introduced to everything.

I don't need an introduction..I've been playing mmos for 15 years lol. Up to 9 as well and I'm just spamming through all dialogue and following map markers..just like every other mmo I've played in the last 5 years.. I really wish the genre would figure something out for these beginning levels. Let the veterans immediately tackle dungeons or something.

I just completed that mission. Kinda tough.
Stay close to the NPCs on the first part. When the Sincallers show up, take care of them first as they are the healers

You want an antidote and a high potion for the 2nd part. Focus on the gargoyle and when he poisons you, use the antidote and heal appropriately. After you kill the gargoyle, 2 NPCs will show up and heal you.

I hope that helps. I struggled with it a few times.

Sorry if this has been answered, I just started last night. For Clarification, the character I created last night, her looks and absolutely everything will be wiped? No way to save it? :(

Maybe I should have waited for Phase 4. I took over an hour creating her perfect. lol.

Yes it all gets wiped

Yoshi P talked about the exact same dilemma in the last (?) Beta feedback thing.

It's a tricky situation with no easy solution. I actually enjoy the lower levels, unlocking new abilities, etc.

I can't stand it. Especially after having leveled so many alts in games like XI or Warhammer or WoW.. it's just a necessary evil I guess.

Just finished the tree stump mini instance thing. I just want to try an actual instance with people and then I'll be done with the beta. Like I said before, nothing out of the ordinary here. Seems like a solid game.

edit: I should say XI probably handled leveling alts the best. By 8-9 you could start smashing crabs at the lake or lizards or whatever in a group.

I've played about 5-6 hours so far and I'm not loving it.

The graphics and user interface are both very nice. I like the aesthetic. For background, I love Final Fantasy games starting from the original. I finished VI,VII, XII,XIII and XIII-2. I also play most of the MMOs that come out, having spent a lot of time in WoW, LotR, Rift, GW2, and plenty of others.

The problem with A Realm Reborn is that the gameplay feels very dated. The quests so far are nothing but "deliver this" "pick up these" and "kill 5 of those". The combat is the main reason the early questing is so boring. I chose Gladiator, and so far the combat is the most ho-hum MMO combat that I can remember. Every encounter is just alternating between two abilities. I have two other 90sec cooldowns that are never necessary. There are no real choices to make, and no danger.

I really wanted to like the game... I'm sure it gets slightly better once the dungeons become available, but I can't remember an MMO that takes this long to get interesting.

Talk to the wandering minstrel outside any gc hq.

Also requires you to have beaten
Ifrit
during the Main Story missions and to have chosen a Grand Company to serve under.

Answer pls :)

Talk to a Calamity NPC inside of any of the main cities, he holds all your legacy characters possessions that couldn't fit in your inventory during the transition. In Gridania hes standing next to the Amphitheatre.

Every mmo takes until max level to get interesting. MMOs are about raiding raiding raiding. Or grouped pvp if they have it. I'm not saying your criticisms are wrong, I basically said the same thing above, but I also know that everything before max level in every mmo is pointlessssssssssssssss. It's about the end game. Get yourself up to instance level and try it out to see how everything gels. That's my one goal with this beta. I'm guessing I need level 15.

What kind of quests would you like to see?

'Cause maybe I've been playing the wrong games, but most quests seem to boil down to 'kill something(s)', 'talk to someone', 'press button to interact with object(s)'.

Man that'd be really lame if you only have to level one job and the others can be done automatically. Like that might actually be a deal breaker for me.

Not sure about that. I'm going to agree with Kuno, the combat so far has been somewhat stale (playing a Conjurer and up to lvl 11). I've played a couple MMOs thus far (WoW, TOR, Rift, Neverwinter, EQ) and the quests + combat are very derivative of previous MMOs.

TOR stood out for me as feeling like a better game during the leveling process do to the time spent crafting a half-decent story and the presentation of it (very cinematic and the voice acting added a lot). Rift had rifts (pretty much feels like where FATE's came from) that spiced things up during the leveling process and you also obtained abilities at a pretty quick rate. It felt staggering at points but it also let you have a lot of variety in how you approached combat very early on.

I'm definitely going to keep playing because I do want to see how instances turn out but I do feel a little disappointed so far that Square didn't try to innovate a little more on the MMO formula.

You're only level 11 though that takes no more than an hour or so to hit. When you unlock all your skills and reach alot of the higher end dungeons and fights you'll see that strategy is crucial for completing the content. Garuda is a fantastic example and you can ask any of the veterans from 1.0 that fight came down to counting percentages and timing it was pretty demanding but fun.

Let's look at levels 1-10 in other MMOs...

WoW: Many more combat abilities. Quests were similar to FFXIV at WoW's launch, but expansions and the post-cata main world modernized the game by adding much more quest variety like shooting cannons, piloting a vehicle, escorting an NPC, etc.

Rift: Aside from more combat choices, you're helping other players fend off rift invasions together, running across the map, closing rifts, taking out boss mobs and getting lots of loot. This game has the best early game of any MMO if you ask me.

Guild Wars 2: From the very beginning you're working alongside other players to complete tasks, watching mini stories unfold in each public quest area. Even the intro quest ends with a cooperative fight with other players against a massive monster.

FFXIV ARR: Get quest, go to quest destination, complete quest, return for reward. All solo. Killing unexciting mobs like bugs. Very limited combat abilities. Fates so far have been pretty bad compared to Rift and GW2's public quests.

I don't have any doubts that the game may open up as I level higher, but I still think that the early levels could be augmented by giving players access to a couple more skills to break up how monotonous combat feels. Story quests should be a bit more unique as well. At least in the early game for me some of my story quests have just been fetch or kill quests. There have been just a handful of interesting quests.

I also feel like some limited voice acting would do wonders for the game. After seeing how well it worked in TOR it really feels weird to going back to just a text-based game.

I agree that it takes a little too long to get things rolling. They should really stretch out those introductory/tutorial quests. That is probably the one thing I think 1.0 did better.

Maybe I'm just in a different mind set coming from the original launch and what a disaster it was. I just remember being thrown in the world not knowing what the heck I was doing and figuring out important things too late in the game.

As for voices the main story will be voiced in the final.

i finished the story. i'm at level 23 now and don't know what to do. got a chocobo too. i did the drybone company quests a couple of times, but it's getting old. any other way to collect those tokens to get a promotion? will any other quest lead me to a dungeon, or are they all optional now?
