Came to post almost exactly this after reading the last few pages.Granted we don't know what's in the article BUT:
A. Game Journalist give softball reviews and interviews people complain
B. Game Journalist state a clear decisive opinion and people complain
Car rags always tell you who they think made the best car, consumer reports tells you what's the best vacuum or frozen dinner, Edge is telling you what they think, that's what magazines do.
It is shocking to see such a hardline opinion in game journalism though, usually its wishy washy 'aww shucks everything is kinda good" nonsense because they want to get review copies and swag.
Will be interesting to read this one though, I doubt that they are going to soften the stance in the article though, cause most people will never see more than the cover.
well only if you're a fan of their brand and wish to see a drive to marginalise other formats inc pc again.
them dominating will mean more stuff only on ps again like last gen and not on other formats and less choice.
That's a crap situation and I can't support it. This media push has helped me decide to buy neither console now.
Changing gears to address the premise of the article...
Since the whole purpose of a game console is to play games, I hope the article addresses why the Xbox One is NOT an option at all, even if I want to play the games that are exclusively on that platform. I think it would have been a lot more fair to change the language from "only option" to "best option."
While there's no doubt that Microsoft has made titanic errors in policy/messaging/positioning, the fact is that the console is not even out yet so it's a bit premature to say the console is on a "road to ruin." The signs of trouble aren't nearly as clear as they were with the Wii U, which last year at this time we knew had little third party support, was severely underpowered, had little improvement to the online infrastructure, and had no clear appeal to the casual gamer.
It's really smart how Edge can straddle both lines by having such an incendiary cover (and I presume article) that is sure to draw a ton of attention but will also align with most readers' opinions due to the overwhelming negativity towards Microsoft in the core gaming community. Savvy.
But here's the thing. They didn't do them. You know that it's not impossible that Sony had similar ideas but just had a change of mind before they unveiled the console?
Sony has patents on stuff like this and puts online-passes in all their published games
To think that Sony just cares about the consumer and not about how much money they can make seems naive. They were just smarter and knew that DRM would mean less pre-orders. (#ps4nodrm anyone?)
Companies are not humans, to say that they "showed their true face" seems so silly. They will go wherever the money lies.
I didnt know seeing gameplay of a game and making an opinion about the product not being my cup of tea meant nothing. I've been doing it all wrong all this time?
AHHH do you people even read this thread, do any research? That was after the 2005 E3 where PS3 dazzled. Not 2006. We already went over all this. Why do people think PS3 only had one E3 showing? there were two!
no it explains nothing. Look through the thread there's plenty of other similar covers for all 3
Of course is after. But the cover loses its meaning after Microsoft promoted changes on Xbox One.
Xbox One is not currently in a position to be completely discarded. EDGE cover after DRM reversal is a non-sense.
So like PS2? I can't see how that is a bad thing for any of us. Cheaper, more powerful, devs taking full advantage of it. How is that a crap situation?
The bottom one is from 2006, genius.

Along with a plethora of genres with developers competing on quality of games rather than exclusive ties, I'm cool with one console dominating.

Good thing that's not what the Edge cover suggests then!Xbox One is not currently in a position to be completely discarded.
They dropped the price and Kinect?Big Fail for EDGE, Microsoft changed and killed this cover.
Magazine covers are about the moment.

In the UK the picture is much more bleak.
£429 price. To clarify, that is the same as the high end PS3 launched at. In other words, for Brits, XO is $599!!
And that's a higher price with notably inferior hardware.
I think Edge being UK based has more to do with it than anything else. The majority of the features of the XBO will not work there or are not geared toward that audience. Combine that with the price and it's not going to be very desirable in their home country. In the UK the picture is much more bleak.

Edge does this sometimes but I doubt the article is anywhere near as 'tabloid' as the front cover. I think people should read it before losing their shit.

Presume it's all vastly outdated now, what with Microsoft's reversal on DRM and so on.
As long as it's Sony's though, right?

No, it isn't.
Assuming someone is not married to their gamer score (lol) , and not needing to play Halo, what are the selling points to EDGE'S readers (core gamers).
Edge writes to a reader base that probably doesn't care about SNAP TV XBOX FIND A SHOW or kinect games. What then sells the xb1?
yasss. I want this again. The good old days were too much slayage

It's not so much about stating an opinion. It's about presenting it as an opinion. Also, you can be reasonable, even when presenting an opinion. They nearly always say it directly... Who says EDGE is picking a side? They're putting an opinion piece on the cover and why shouldn't they?
This is all such a silly debate!
You're not good at sarcasm. I'm not saying they're wrong for stating their opinion, simply that their presentation is shameful.Yeah it's like Microsoft spent the last few months trying to force anti-consumer DRM down people's throats, completely shitting the bed on their message, and covering up their weaker spec over priced machine with disingenuous PR buzz words about clouds or something.....
Fuck any video game magazine, or journalist trying to be "neutral" on Microsoft bullshit. FUCK THAT SHIT. Every price of shit and negative press the Xbone is and will get was throughly earned. And if Edge coming out and stating an opinion based on the facts of the Xbone reveal, makes you angry?
Then blame yourself, Microsoft or God.
Good. I hope MS gets buried into the ground for all the horrible decisions they have made. Though then the problem is that next gen if Sony gets a monopoly again they will start to make horrible decisions like they did on PS3.

In before Titanfall
Neither FIFA or Cod are exclusives.
