Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS: Info Collection - Dojo, Mega Man and Trailer! 2014!

So he's basically saying there is a possibility for the 3DS version to not get the full roster if there are technical barriers that arise down the road?

Pretty sure he's saying what we know already; i.e the 3DS roster is supposed to be identical to the Wii U despite the possible quantity limitations that Wii U might suffer ramifications from.

With that said he's also reassuring that they haven't hit any character hurdles yet, and if they're launching next year they most likely already have a majority of the characters they want to include pinned down.

Sounds more like any holdback the 3ds goes through will affect the wii u version.

If sanity prevails that's what will end up happening.

I'd rather the 3DS lose one or two characters than it holding back anything. Before I wasn't worried, now I'm starting to just a bit.

Well hopefully they can figure something out. Having those more difficult characters added later as DLC would be a good compromise if it really becomes a hurdle.

Thank for the heads uo, I didn't see the edit.

8GB doesn't sound as bad. Brawl was like what, 9? Not much more that 8 that's for sure. I don't think there would be any problem if they do not put as much secondary content (trophies/songs/huge single player campaign/etc).

Brawl had a 8.5GB disc (Dual-Layer disc). Half of it was the Subspace Emissary. the 3DS version will have a hard time hitting 4GB especially considering the assets are going to all be a lower quality than Brawl and Melee (which fit on a mini-disc which is 1.5GB).

Judging from the interview, I'm going to guess that a lot of the clone characters are getting cut.

I hope so just for more unique characters. :)

Do I see what sounds like MK7 Communities? I hope so, that would be better than leaderboards IMO. SmashGAF Community go. I hope it is much more robust than MK7's though.

Can you explain me more about MK7 online communities? I haven't experience the communities yet.

3DS anchor preventing the Wii U from exploring vast oceans.

Probably.

Pony up fellas, looks like I win the roster challenge.

How so?

Same here, I'm concerned as well.

I don't get why Sakurai is so stuck on keeping the same roster size between versions. It's not like there's going to be cross-play, and the customization he's talking about doesn't sound worth the sacrifice. Iwata probably should have just kept his mouth shut.

I'm guessing Sakurai doesn't want either version of the game to feel inferior to another and I'm completely fine with that since don't want to buy a Wii U

But as far as sacrificing characters though I only see people like Toon Link,Wolf and others like that leaving
oh, but you can "upgrade"... not just buy an extra.
what I did was... getting the XL, did a system transfer, and then sold my OG. Best decision ever.

I know the colors are limited... but there are options to pimp them up a little =)

this is my 3dsXL

(don't mind the bubbles, they are gone now :P)

Oh man that's really really tempting:/

So good to know no Characters have been cut yet.

Sakurai says no character cuts so far. I'm guessing everyone of Brawl is still on the table.

I wonder with one thing. Would that applied to those 7 characters that didn't make in Brawl? I think it is more likely to apply to Mewtwo only since he is extremely popular character.

But as far as sacrificing characters though I only see people like Toon Link,Wolf and others like that leaving

I would be okay if they get rid of Lucas, Toon Link and Falco.

dont hate me. I main Lucas and Falco

Brawl is roughly 7.9 gigs in size, so assuming the 3DS version of Smash gets an 8 gig cart I wouldn't worry too much, at least if we're comparing it content-wise to how much Brawl had.

Also that characters cut comment could be read either way I guess (no characters cut from Brawl to SSB4 versus no characters from the Wii U version cut from the 3DS version), but I'm hoping for the former. Nobody from Brawl really stands out the same way Dr. Mario or Pichu did in Melee, and it's far easier to see how you could further differentiate Toon Link/Lucas/Falco/Ganondorf (the latter two who really are overdue having their own movesets) from their counterparts.

It'll be weird if Toon Link is a playable character and also in the background of that Spirit Tracks stage we saw. >_>
Technically not the same Link, just an identical design. I dunno, maybe putting the ST Link in his conductor's gear was a quick way of differentiating him visually from WW Link?

Either way, I really don't want to see Toon Link go. He's the only Zelda character outside of Project M I ever play as.

I just read that interview..
So.. Braw'l's full roster is confirmed for now?
I don't know why but reading Ice Climbers and 3DS together put a smile on my face

To be fair, you are buying portable version, if it has less stuff in it than the full version. That is to be expected, or in vulgarity, tough shit. Its a nice thing to aspire to, but if things are left out in the 3ds version that would be expected. And for me atleats be preferred. I am going to buy the wii u version of this to experience all it can, I would be a bit peeved it the portable version was holding it back.

But so far, that isn't the case.

I haven't checked in a while, anything new? All of SSBB characters confirmed?
The latest IGN article seems to suggest that nobody from Brawl's been cut yet, yeah. Though Sakurai's also emphasizing the game's still very early in development, so anything could happen really.

The cost differences between Wii U and 3DS alone should make the Wii U game a premium version. Downgrades for the sake of bogus parity between to different investments shouldn't be the goal.

I meant to say two.

Freaking words!

Also:

This isn't the first time we've heard this. Why does Nintendo think any kind of leaderboard means that other players cease having fun? Does Nintendo think a leaderboard is an OS-level application that pops up and tells players they suck when they turn on the Wii U?

I might've actually bought Nintendo Land if it had online, as the arcade nature of the games fits it well. It's a shame that even a more progressive employee like Sakurai is still as backwards as the rest of Nintendo when it comes to online.

Have you ever played any game with an online ranking system? It encourages the "being cheap," cheating, and disconnects, all of which aren't fun.

Agreed. If there was cross play then sure, I can see why they had to sacrifice some characters and limit the roster.

This would be like if Sonic games held their console versions back by limiting the number of zones for the handhelds.

There's already going to be notable downsides to the 3DS version, at least in the visuals/resolution and in needing multiple copies and 3DS's for multiplayer.

The roster needs to be the same for the customization idea to work. One of the key features of the 3DS version is the idea of customizing a character and then taking them to the Wii U version. It's not just parity for parity's sake.

But none of that is the Wii U versions fault. The Wii U game shouldn't be sacrificed to atone for the sins of the 3DS and in every interview Sakurai seems to suggest that will be the case.

I play fighting game online all the time, and I can say that while there are plenty of people who disconnect there are at least 5x as many people who don't.

I was watching my brother play Madden online a few years back. The Cowboys are his team, but if he picked them at team select the other player would disconnect. Generally, the other player would sit on one of the two teams on the other side of the Patriots and quickly switch to the Patriots (the best team in the game) after he chose his team.

That year there was some glitch with a blitz that was 100%, effective, so you were sacked every down.

There's generally a 100% disconnect rate if you get up by more than a single passion.

It's a cesspool. There's no real reason not to expect the SSB user base to behave any differently.

I feel more at ease whenever I get reminded that SSE isn't going to be in Smash 4. SSE was probably one of the major reasons why we got so many cut characters in Brawl.

So far that idea doesn't sound too interesting to me and other people in here. I would rather have 5 characters I never use than a customization feature I never use.

^ I don't think game development works like that...

No crazy awesome Kid Icarus-esque script written by Sakurai :(

I guess it's for the best, though.

Well if we're going by anecdotal evidence to back up our theories, then I can pull some stuff out of my hat too.

The customization feature is my biggest interest in the new Smash Bros, so I don't feel the same way. I like the idea of personally customizing a character I main while I play a portable Smash Bros with different stages and features, and then transfer that character to the HD version with even more different stages and features. I can take a small number of characters not making the cut for that.

You weren't playing injustice in the beginning were you.

I dissagree, why even buy the console version in the first place?

Why not have the ability to customize your characters in the console version? There isn't a reason its a dumb design choice

I like sakurai but dude needs an idea editor with a rolled up newspaper

You weren't playing injustice in the beginning were you.

Nope. But I was playing SF4 from the beginning, and bought UMvC3 Day 1. Out of the thousands of matches between both games, I've encountered rage quitters in maybe...double digits.

Again, I can pull anecdotal evidence out of nowhere, too.

Like you can go up in the injustice thread and ask, shit was rampant. There were no penalties for disconnects. People wanting have nice ass records, they disconnected. Soon as they fixed it , it stopped. There are experiences outside of yours, maybe you should take a gander.

Does this mean they are Bringing back characters from Melee like Dr. Mario and Roy? Please Sakurai.
