You don't have to pay for the trading cards though, but it really does seem more oriented towards just making Valve more money. It is cool for giving games visibility if they add trading cards, but the whole thing forces you to either use the marketplace or trading to get badges. I really don't like how amount of slots on your friends list is tied to your steam level.

why don't you just trade for the trading cards you want instead of buying them?

as for me, I'm level 14 and I don't really care to increase it. I use those cards to fund new game purchases, so...

I really don't like how amount of slots on your friends list is tied to your steam level.

Was it like this before they introduced levels or is it like "There was a cap but we've raised it. If you are level 10 or over *gabeface*."
