Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | July 2013 | Slow Month, Fast Games

Brand new Vitabro here...wife surprised me with one for father's day. With the exception of the battery being rather weak, I'm absolutely loving it.

Plus is amazing. I have more games on the system right now than time to play them.

I just completed Hotline Miami earlier, and can confirm that after ten seconds to adjust to the touch screen lock on option, it really is better than the PC version.

Also, for anyone on the fence about Mortal Kombat, I've been playing the story mode pretty much all afternoon and it's a superb game. I highly recommend it for $5.

Lastly, and this is most likely the benefit of buying a Vita in 2013 versus earlier, but I'm not sure what all the talk about lack of games is about. I already have 13 games on the system (thanks again, Plus) which is more than I own anywhere other than Steam. I can see myself accumulating lots more in the coming year.

Welcome! Spelunky comes out soon so you'll have even less time to play other games.

Sounds like that would just be a comaint against indies on consoles in general not the Vita alone. These prices are also set by the devs on Psn now so if thats what they would like for their game I dont really have an issue paying it as long as the game is good.

Console prices will likely never be as good as PC.

This is true, but PC doesn't bury you in PS+ games. That being said though I would squee so hard if a Humble Vita Bundle ever got announced.

Spleunky is day one. Can't wait to play the proper HD version of it on this amazing OLED. Lone Survivor I have on Steam, but I think I'll actually play it on my Vita. It's a perfect fit for the hardware. Stealth Bastard too. These games are just made to be played on a proper handheld system.

As others have said too, you are no sinner! I also have a Monster Hunter Machine 3DS. I have a decent library, but all I play is Monster Hunter - I have about 200 hours on my save. Been going through 999 as well, before I jump into VLR. You should play 999 too, despite already going through VLR!!! I really enjoy the system, it has plenty of very fun games. The Vita is still my go to system, I'd say it's my favorite piece of tech I own, but I simply cannot live without my MoHun.

Lol thanks, I was told to play 999 first but I just couldn't resist playing VLR since I already had my Vita. I'm gonna grab it next time I see it for $10 somewhere though, since a third Zero Escape game is in the works and it's the sequel to 999 but prequel to VLR and I have a LOT of questions about what happened between the two games

Thanks dude. I just brought it.

I hope you like it. My first MK game since MK3 years ago, and I'm loving it. They outdid themselves getting the game to run so smoothly on the Vita.

Hadn't heard of it until this thread. If it's as good as folks are saying, I'll pick it up.

I'm firmly riding the PC + Vita train.

oh you know me, just going out of my way to murder more people :P

zack mask. try to get the best combo you can on a floor. if you mess up a combo or feel you can do better die on purpose and keep retrying the floor. that way your finishing a level with all your best attempts.

you can fully combo the first floor. bring a nearly/fully loaded gun to the second floor and take alerted enemies out as they come in through the door. you should at least get a 7-8 combo.

For some reason I think you get more boldness for using Richard.
I ended up using him and Zack to get most of my A+s.

I just wish I could finish the game in terms of platinum.

Well this may just be my opinion, but its pretty clear to me that Sony is experimenting with their digital pricing. We have had some pretty solid deals on PSN over the past few months, and once Sony stadts actually building a good relationship with these devs I could see it happening.

I do tend to think people forget that allot of this indie stuff is new for Sony, so they have to build relationships with allot of devs that gained popularity on 360, and PC. Once that relationship is built, and a larger amount of exposure is givin to the work Sony is trying to do for developers on consoles, it could lead to much better in terms of release date parity.

Its kind of already starting to happen since hotline 2, and all of the E3 indie games will be available on PS4 atleast at the same time as PC.

the starter mask? i thought that one has no perk. unless it's unlisted.

me too. being so close doesn't help. i tried going for "always on top" but i can't get it to pop. i'm only missing that and "dog lover" "let some air in".

And yeah, I think having no perk makes your boldness go up at the end of the level -- seemed like it at least. You still have to be good, but my boldness when I used it on that level was over 36,000.

yeah i got what you meant after i replied. if it works like that then that's pretty cool/makes sense.

tbh i wasn't even that hyped for this release, but i was gonna buy it anyways so i could actually play through the whole game. now i need hotline miami 2.

Got Hotline Miami after all he hype from the thread. Really did not expect much. Wow what a nice surprise cool game. Really hits that (only have 30mins or less) time to play spot.

Sorry to derail the discussion but can someone post a list of big games that have been announced for the vita.

So far i know of:
-Killzone Mercenary(buy)
-Tear Away(buy)
-Fifa 14(maybe)
-Batman BlackGate(maybe)

The reason i ask this because the list seems rather weak. Please, i am only interested in titles coming to the west and Indie games don't count as big games even though guacamele is quite good. Are we hearing any rumors about other big games that may be making an appearance on the vita? I honestly don't have a clue what sony's plan for the vita is in the west. Indie games are good but most people don't spend 250+ to buy games that you can already play on your phone or computer.

Sony absolutely wasted their money by paying for the development of COD when that money should have been spent towards a GTA or another franchise with longevity. COD is not a system seller when its available on numerous platforms. I mean, we aren't even getting Madden on the vita this year so i things are really heading south. I mean, even though the psp had its drought, it still had lots of really good titles. Titles like the Warriors, GTA, Gran Turismo, God of War etc.

I feel like sony should be trying to secure games that are unique to the platform and its usage style. On the sports side, sony should't be trying to secure the yearly titles like NBA or Fifa xx, they should try to get games like Fifa Street or NBA street. Titles like those that are more likely to have success on the platform. Honestly, no body wants to play fifa 13 on the vita because fifa 13 on consoles is just much better.

I do give them credit for securing the Assassins creed 3 spin off and i do hope they go after more titles like that.

Anyway, if anyone could post a list, that would be awesome.

HEADPHONES.

I'm not normally huge on headphones or even paying attention to sound direction, but this game is a masterpiece and after I tried it with my nice headphones, my head exploded.

I wouldn't call FIFA 14 big.
Besides that edit? That's the list.
You might be able to put Dragon's Crown on the list. And Y's Celceta.

Fifa sells 14 million copies per year. It is a big game

In all reality, it will probably be a shoddy port.
Wasn't Fifa 13 just Fifa 12 with an updated roster?

Yes it was. Anyway, sony's focus on the connectivity between ps vita and ps4 is poor. While some people want that, a majority of people don't really care. Sony needs to rebrand the vita as the all in one portable entertainment system for gamers. The ps vita basically needs to be able to do everything tablets can do and more. It should be the piece that allows you to remain connected even when you are away from your consoles. I just think they need to stop chasing the dream of a portable ps3/4 in your pocket. I don't mean they should forego remote play but it should not be the focal point of their marketing.

i love it when a level takes me 30 min. and at the end the stats page shows 90 sec.

yeah i took my vita and sennheiser's with me to the barbershop yesterday. time flew by.

Yes. But fifa 13 is still a really good football game.

No its not, its quite poor in fact. It deserves a 0. It actually got worse than fifa soccer. The Ai is quite poor, the spacing in the wall on a free kick is laughable at best. It is essentially a poor mans version of fifa 11. In fifa 11, you couldn't even score with that much ease. Here, on legendary, i score without trying. They charged $40 for a roster update and that should be punishable by law because it is false advertising.

It depends on what you consider big, So far this is some of the stuff we know about currently:

Killzone
Tareaway
Freedom Wars
Rayman Legends
Fifa 14
Batman Blackgate
Toukiden
DragonBall z
Ys
Dragons Crown
FFXHD
God Of War HD
Lego Marvel
The Walking Dead
Warriors Orachi
(rumored assassins creed, and Rainbow Six)

There may be more, but honestly I dont know what people consider Big for Vita anymore I have seen people say how badly they want big AAA games and then use obscure japanese games as an example of such.

There are a bunch of indies coming that are big for me, but i realise that is not the case for others. At this point as long as the system get games that I want to play then im pretty happy, even if I would love the Vita to be much more successful then it is currently. That wont happen until they can do something about the price, and memory though.

You know what would be cool?

If when ps4 comes out the streaming feature works in vita too. Then people could stream vita games and use the direct feed footage

I hope we can stream from Vita to TV via the PS4. Having that stuff go both ways would be great for Vita RPG marathons at home!

Well if Assassins creed and rainbow 6 come, i will be happy. That being said though, i was looking at titles that appeal more to a western market. I do like some japanese games but most people want something that they can easily recognize. I think the sweet spot for the Vita's price is between 150-200 but the price won't matter much if it is not announced at the same time as big titles. Titles that make all gamers pay attention. Titles like GTA. Honestly, if the Vita got like a GTA 5 Stories or something like that, it would be a system saver. That is one of the few franchises that make people go out and buy a platform.

I applaud ubisoft for continuing to take risks with the platform and i hope that EA, Rockstar, Capcom and SE would follow as well. The middle class of game studios seems to be disappearing and i think it would be great if sony can entice those developers to start developing on the vita. If they allowed those middle class studios to self publish on the vita, that would be wonderful. I mean, We have indies and we have triple A but we need something in between and by doing this, we might see more studios like CD Projekt Red come out of no where.

I have trouble combining Hotline Miami's often very-rapid play-style with how the game controls on the Vita. Any tips?

Of course, the fact that I tend to get panicked easily when things go a bit out of hand does not help, hahaha.

Speaking of hotline I just got all the combo trophies pop up without me aiming for them. So satisfying. Dare I say it's better with dual sticks then with the mouse hmmm...

I am just INSANELY excited for Rayman Legends. Origins was, to me, the best 2D platformer I've ever played (and I've played A LOT).

I've said this before, but it bears repeating. Rayman Origins takes about 10-15 hours to beat, and has 67 levels. RAYMAN LEGENDS HAS OVER 120 LEVELS. Plus is has an online challenge mode, and this thing is FUN. Every day there's a new challenge. It may be "collect 120 lums as fast as you can in this level" or "finish land of the livid dead as fast as you can" or something, and you compete against your friends and the world. Like I said, different challenge every day, and also there's a weekly challenge.

Essentially, what I'm saying is it will be the greatest game ever made.

Did I order a PS Vita a bit too early?

One of the reasons I bought a Wii U was for the off-tv feature.

When they announced that the PS Vita will have this feature for most games on the PS4, I had to get it. And I did.

While I am enjoying the PS Plus service with the Vita, did I order too early for my main reason, off-tv play with the PS4? I'd like to play some online games with it as well, so I don't know if that's off. Do I need anything special on my end, internet speed?

Onlive doesn't even work with my 12mbps speed, is that a fair comparison?

I think there are plenty of games to enjoy on the Vita itself, specially if you have Plus.

Remote Play should work fine locally, as in your Vita is within range of your local network (in that case your internet connection is irrelevant). If you're planning to use it over the internet I wouldn't be so sure that would work well, you're most likely waiting until Gaikai rolls out for something truly usable.

It should run locally without any internet connection required, similar to the WiiU, so all you should need is the Vita and a PS4. As far as 'too early', you have so many games to catch up on in the few months until release.

So MotoGP 13 is fantastic.

Okay, I got it for cheaper than they're selling it but even the graphics are pretty nice you know - it looks much better on Vita than I was seeing and thinking after reading.

The shadows are weak but everything else is there. Particle effects from grass, changing wheel textures with surface and when you go on sand you get really nice smoke...makes it seem odd that they didn't have better shadows but they have so many other racers...guess it would look a bit in consistent at times but still...nicer shadows on a few of the closer players would have been cool, even if they were like PC GTA shadows :P

You get the wet look with the rain option, great view distances and pretty nice architecture too with nicer pre-baked shadows (if I understand that right).
Player models aren't bad either, I read some complaints. They are by no means impressive but they aren't bad or distractingly so.

Helmet cam view is fantastic but the 3rd person view isn't bad either and can help when learning the track.

The game is FUN. But it's not all that arcade either. I've haven't played a motorbike racing game in like...ever but I'm a big fan of racing in general.

Loading times are good too, not VT4 good which is insane - just got it yesterday £5 from amazon! and is great, but they are still good, as are restarts - and the rewind option!

I'm still getting to grips with the mechanics, I have all the aids off but still switch dual breaks on sometimes as I don't fully have a good understanding on those and I fall a lot when I don't press both at the same time. You can tell they spent a lot of time tweaking the mechanics of the riding.

Also you can do wheelies but I can't hold them for very long. You can fall off in loads of ways and crash into players with varying results...

The game is packed. Thought it deserved a second look and the graphics aren't that unimpressive I was hearing. It feels a bit like the GT of motorbikes.

Quick random question vita bros. Is the Zone of the Enders collection ever coming out for Vita? I feel like that was announced or a strong possibility or something.

After trying to clear my backlog by finishing up Hexyz Force, which I couldn't finish by today as planned because the last dungeons are fucking looooooooonnggg, I think I may need some grips for better support for my hands.

These are the games I have to have by year's end. Although realistically I will own three times this amount at the least, with all of the PSN games.

Nice shots, no Dragon's Crown though? Also since you listed a PSN game as well, for me also:

Oddworld's new one
Stealth Inc
Terraria
Luftrausers
Dead Nation
Malicious Rebirth
TxK
Starlight Inception

Possibly a few others, retail also (the batman game and MAYBE freedom wars).

Also just wanted to clarify from earlier about the Hori Vita grip - it's very comfortable, really cool form - like a 360 controller, but it's not the best for the rear touch pad. And it's not quite as natural with the analogue stick as the nyko but it's not at all bad either - much better when extended - going to try and make the sliding mechanism less loose today.

It also has a nice resting place if you're used to putting up two fingers each side near the shoulder buttons (like with console controllers).

I have a bunch more PSN games as well, but that's pretty much my top 4. I might get Batman too if it's well received.

Cancelled :'(

After the poor job they did on the consoles can't say I'm surprised.

Dragon's Crown is a MAYBE. I've never played a Vanillaware game before, but it looks interesting. I may get it. And like I said, I will 100% get more games on Vita than those four. In fact, I will probably get all of those games you listed, too. Those four I posted are just the immediate absolutes.

Yeah, same here. Batman looks good but I don't want to commit myself to it yet. It being developed by ex-Retro devs and on the Bluepoint engine both bode VERY well, though.

Good taste. I have a good feeling about dragon's crown but yeah always smart to wait. I've not played a sidescrolling beatemup for a long time too. Or a Vanillaware game unless I'm mistaken. I actually thought it was Atlus doing this and Vanillaware doing Muramusa, not both so close to eachother...and similar in gameplay :S I might have bought muramusa if DC wasn't so close lol.

Also the waterfield case came yesterday. Very smart. Looks a little like a purse with the shape and material but still very good :P

If only I didn't love grips so much too, it'd be a lot easier.

Guys...

Spelunky HD. Stealth Bastard. Binding of Isaac. Motherfucking DIVEKICK.

These alone justifies Vita purchases tenfold. Everyone buy these games god DAMN IT!

As much as I'm going to love the shit out of portable Spelunky, I'm not sure a bunch of ports is what justifies a system.

Hey, I'm all for my Vita turning into a portable indie gaming machine of gdlk quality.

But maybe that's just me.

Hell, a game that many consider as the best in Vita, P4G, is a port.

It's also my main reason of buying Vita in the 1st place.

Not that I don't want original games for Vita though.
