Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS: Info Collection - Dojo, Mega Man and Trailer! 2014!

Anybody else wish they'd just ditch the 3DS version and focus all money, talent and efforts into the Wii U game?

I want a game as competitive, deep and addictive as Melee or even moreso. And feature and OST rich as Brawl. I also want a amazing netcode, and maybe better visuals by the end product.

Are the pictures ever going to show new things?
No. Why would they?

No, that'd be stupid. Can't be that hard to have another fluke like Melee without having many times it's budget.

Competitive, you don't need to cancel the 3DS version for that. Half of it comes from design decisions. Plus, Melee was made in a much shorter time frame than Brawl did and 4 will be. I don't think the 3DS would be at fault for this.

OST-wise, I don't see how the 3DS is going to prevent it either.

Netcode is pretty much up to the programmers. From what I've heard, Namco is pretty good with netcoding, so here's hoping it'll be good.

Yeah I don't think the 3DS version will dilute the quality of the Wii U one. If anything it could make the game more focused as they have to learn to work around the handheld limitations. If sakurai and his team take their time and really focus on polish this title could be very balanced across both platforms. If they go blowout with 20+ new chars and 10 new modes you could end up having another 5 years of 1 char domination and tourney bans ala Metaknight in brawl. They absolutely must nail down the basic mechanics and netcode for this title or it will play like garbage.

I'd rather ALL resources and energy be spent on the Wii U version. You know, time and energy spent crushing bugs, time and energy spent developing assets and possible communication between the two, time and energy spent on Q&A testing for both versions, time and energy spent on netcode for both versions, so on and so forth. All requiring a far larger sum of time and money.

So my take ditch the stupid 3DS version, most fans will end up buying the Wii U version by a mile. I don't think it's a investment that will sell 3DS systems, and it's only really there to broaden the library.

Although, I would love the option of multiple artstyles in the game, including the celshading from 3DS, and other stuff. Hopefully by way of earning them.

Sigh... The only problem with the 3DS version is that it's apparently restricting the roster in some way, but we don't know how bad it is. We don't know how much affect the 3DS version has on the Wii U version otherwise.

The 3DS game will probably sell much much more due to a bigger install base(32 million+ compared to the Wii U's 3.5 million+) and Pokemon this October will only help the install base grow a lot more. Heck I bet that's why a 3DS game was considered.

Where the heck is Yoshi? Third game in a row that I tell myself I wanna main him when it's announced and the darn thing isn't even here to be so terrible I change my mind again!

He's busy making sure his egg colors match his alternate colors instead of all of them being green...hopefully.

In the last page, people were starting to wonder if Sakurai's talk about not cutting characters from the IGN interview (so far) wasn't just about the 3DS vs the Wii U version, but this older article from another site has a similar statement and it's clearly about Brawl characters here.

http://www.nowgamer.com/news/197055...t_have_time_to_bring_all_characters_back.html

I think his general statements really make it sound like he's trying to keep Brawl's entire cast right now. There's no basis to "Sakurai is aiming to remove X characters" at this point. He isn't going to bring back the Melee characters just to inflate the cast, but it seems like he's trying to keep Brawl's characters, since he obviously used Brawl's engine as the base of the new Smash.

you don't have the time now you can make the time later if you DLC the hell out of them shhhsh

Am I really wrong to suggest that every single bit of blood sweat and tears be spent on the superior version of a game? What people don't seen to realize is, every second wasted on 3DS version is a sec they could have crushed a bug on Wii U or got more content started. Enabling a closer release date, possibly.

Make no mistake two simultaneous versions of a game by a developer (when we're talking console to handheld) DOES mean that there will be time, money and energy put aside for one version or another. And all I'm saying is, I'd rather ALL of those secs be for the Wii U version.

He's busy making sure his egg colors match his dalternate colors instead of all of them being green...hopefully.

That always bothered me, despite always playing default green Yoshi.

As an aside, I always play default colors when I pick my characters in any fighting game I play.

I hope we can get real suit changes, instead of just a different color palette swap. Like Mario can become Dr. Mario (with new abilities), or Paper Mario, or all types of suits like the Tanooki Suit. And if every character had this, it'd be pure awesome. But I think you should have to earn each of them.

Level editor should obviously fully support the tablet. Also should include every character from every Brawl game and a few more. Challenge grid should be back but done differently, and have real in-game advantages.

If they did include Meat Boy, what would his move set be?

Except that if you (as a publisher) anticipate increased revenue from releasing the second version, you can afford to increase the budget proportionally to do so. This is *bound* to have significantly greater resources available to it than previous Smash titles.

I fully understand the argument for the increased revenue due to install base, but even that isn't guaranteed. Especially on handhelds these days. But I'm well aware of the profits argument.

I'm simply coming at it from the point of view as a gamer and wanting the absolute best product they can make for my money. I'm an advocate for the better game ultimately, not the better sales. Unfortunately the real world doesn't work that way... :(

That's right. I forgot about the TP month delay.

Also, boo-urns at the delay of the 3DS version.

Your main argument is that you don't expect Nintendo to put enough polish on a game. Nintendo. Of all publishers.

I saw a meme (did you know gaming thing) saying Sakurai put his cat photo into the Mother ice stage in Brawl. But since I saw many incorrect things with those memes I demand a confirmation.

Edit: beaten :/

But cats rocks.

I tend to go for 'retro' Toon Link over his default colors too. The Blood Falcon recolor the Cap gets is probably the closest we'll get to a 2nd F-Zero rep though. :(

That would essentially be a new character, no different from Dr.Mario in Melee, just forced to be hidden behind Mario's icon. I really don't think that'll happen.

On the other hand, I hope we get alternate costumes this time. One per character should be perfectly doable.

Even more so, I'd like to see some Tekken style Panda/Kuma type costumes, that even change the characters' names. So, they could have, say, have Blood Falcon as an actual model change from Captain Falcon (with the skulls and other details thrown to his suit, not only the skull emblem on the back), and that'd change his voice and narrator call, even while the moveset and gameplay continued to be identical to Captain Falcon's. It seems like an easy way to add more representation for various series without actually adding more characters.

Still, so far Sakurai hasn't done much with alternate costumes at all, so even a few standard model changes would be a step forward, I guess...

I suggested this a month ago but made the mistake of using Daisy for Peach as an example which caused some people to freak out. I personally think it's a great concession for characters who aren't ever going to get in as a proper character
such as Daisy

I'll even just take regular model-swap costumes like what Wario had though. Dr. Mario, Mr. L, Dry Bowser (despite looking more complicated design-wise there's literally nothing they'd have to change animation/hit-box wise), the previous OoT-versions of Zelda characters... I'm cool either way, but it'd be a fun extra nonetheless.
