I think you're exaggerating things. Sure, those fans exist and many threads are plagued with them, but I don't see that as heavily with this movie. If anything most of us are just hoping it's good (and if it is, we want it to succeed), not ripping people apart for not liking it.

Anyways, waiting for those reactions from Dookkake.
I don't know I think he's sort of right. Never seen such devotion for a new ip with horrible trailers. Im lost at the phenomenon here

I wrote this in the box office thread but I thought I'd ask it here too.

How do you guys think Pacific Rim will perform in Japan and do you think that's a big enough market for the movie to gain some momentum or traction?

Two days till I get to witness this. Those tracking numbers would be sweet as fuck, but I need confirmation first.

Japan has a terrible film market as usual, but wide-enough marketing could make it a family-friendly hit.

Also my IMAX isn't even sowing this. It's an epic true IMAX too. The sound system and humongous screen is phenomenal. Shame.

Seated in theater. Show starts in 30 minutes.

I have kaiju fever.

I know I'm kidding with reactions like the gif above. I remain hopeful for the movie and there's nothing wrong with a bit of good spirit for a new ip. If it's bad, well then we'll have the rest of time to dislike it.

Thanks for the reminder to check tracking numbers for this tonight. I know they've been trending up. More importantly, I'm happy that many of these early reviews are positive. Regardless of how much the movie makes, it would've been a bigger tragedy had we waited all this time for a movie like this and it sucked.

I find it baffling that if you say you don't like something you have seen about any film, then you have somehow insulted the people that worked on it. And I say this as someone quite excited to see PR.

How's the theater lookin? Full? Half full?

I just want to see big robots fight big monsters. If I get that, the movie delivers.

Pretty much. I look at it like this, you're either a fan of robots fighting monsters or not. You know there's gonna be action in it and if you're interested in seeing things blow up, this seems like a good movie to get your fix from.

It's not that hard to figure out. The concept is on people have been wanting a movie about for a while, the director is a cult favorite, and a lot of early reports from people who have seen it say that it's good.

As for the whole "new IP" thing, two points:

1. Yes, it's technically new, but it's also heavily based on a genre people like

2. If you don't care about the genre, and consider this new, then that's even better, because honestly, how often do we get new IP these days in movies? Most movies are sequels or based on existing properties. At this point, a giant summer movie that's not directly based on an existing IP is somewhat novel.

For myself, I'm interested because I like Del Toro, and I like the fact that the movie just seems to be going for it. Is Elba's line about cancelling the apocalypse dumb? Sure, but frankly I'm getting tired of self aware blockbusters that play with a wink and a nod towards the audience. I like that this movie isn't trying to be ironic (or at least doesn't appear to be), and it isn't trying to be gritty and realistic. That's appealing to me.

Saying you don't like something is completely different to making a general dismissive/ignorant statement. And yes I do know people who, if you told them their shot looked like a video game, it would be like telling a master sculptor their carving looked like something from the intro arts & crafts hour at the local community college.

I get that the original poster didn't mean it that way as he later clarified his stance in a more constructive manner, but as this is GAF it's not uncommon to have drive-by troll posts, hence the various replies to that original post before he elaborated.

My most anticipated movie of the year. I am just popping in here to show my support, been on a blackout of this movie since three months ago. I am a server at the Alamo Drafthouse and asked about an employee screening today, which might happen at 5am on thursday ahahaah I would so fucking go to it if they end up having it. About to buy my Gypsy Danger shirt so I can wear it at work 8)

Not going to lie, I'm quite nervous to hear the first impressions. I've hyped too many friends about this movie for it to be disappointing.
