I'm already in this shit deep. I'm going to watch this movie no matter what reviewers say.

And thats the way it should be. Reviewers can be wrong ( man of steel) and they can be right ( world war z). Treat it as the perfect popcorn film and i hope it delivers. In sure the director intends the viewer to see it that way too

68%. I'm not worried about the review scores, but I am worried for my friends and other random people who look at review scores to judge whether it's worth seeing.

It's weird how people look at rotten tomatoes for a film rated 60 and think it means that film is only 60/100 good. Loads of people seem to do this quicker than actually reading reviews I guess

You have friends who check on some aggregate ratings before they see a movie? Man, they're more nerdy than me I guess.

Agreed. But if you tell them what you're reactions are after seeing it, hopefully that'll influence them to go see it anyway. I know that's what I plan on doing. Sometimes people just need to hear whether or not something is good from someone they know personally before they dive into a movie they're unsure about.

If this doesn't get big crowds in the US, I just dunno. What more do you people want??? This is really the only big-budget movie that will get my ass into a theater this summer.

Big names sell. Now, even the biggest can't save a movie it's bad. But if if the movie is good, it really helps. But for me, sometimes big names detract from the movie. In this case, the actors aren't the focus. The robots and kaiju are.

It's kind of scary watching the Tomatometer like this, since it can suddenly change so drastically. Revenge of the Fallen had 60% in the days leading up to its release and we all know how that turned out, but at the same time, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World started out on the low end of 70 but ended up being one of my favourite films ever.

I trust EviLore and the Count's opinions more than any reviewer though, since they're familiar to the genre and likely share similar mindsets with me.

That's actually a reasonably high score for RT. When you take into consideration that those people don't like anything.

what about Transformers. that movie was panned and it still did huge numbers.

Regardless of what happens, I will be eternally awed by the fact that GDT actually got this movie made with a budget of that size.

Even if there's no sequel, I consider that a victory in and of itself.

Doing my part with 4 IMAX tickets this Saturday, and I wouldn't be surprised if I see it 1-2 more times in the theatre.

So is there a consensus on 3D or no?

I know it's post-converted, but still not sure...

Not 100%.

The human scenes is post-converted, but all the CGI is made in true 3D ... and in a movie that looks to be 50% CGI and all the IMPORTANT parts are in CGI ... xD

This reminds me.

How are the reviews for all 3 TF movies? I'm hoping they're in the negative.

On RT they got 57% (avg 5.8/10) 20% (avg 4/10) and 36% (avg 4.9/10).

So far Pacific Rim is at 70% with an average of 7.4/10. Only 20 reviews so far, compared to like 200 for Transformers.

Holy crap, that's actually pretty high.

What a lot of people forget about Rotten Tomatoes is that it only measures how many critics were positive about the film, not how much the ones who liked it enjoyed it or how much the people who didn't like it didn't enjoy it.

Re: the 3D, the separation looked great throughout, but the action sequences suffered from the hard technical limitations of 24fps 3D in terms of clarity. It's up to your preferences.

Shame it won't be out here in Japan till August.

Brazil too =(

I wonder if it will be big in Japan. Maybe ww can make it a success, right? :(

Do you guys think The main female lead will be a major star after this? Her last name eludes me, Rinko is her first name.

Edit. Rinko Kikuchi. I just thinks she's going to be pretty big.

I'm so excited. I just won pre-screening tickets for Wednesday. And this is after I already purchased my tickets for Friday! This gon b gud.

Is anyone else watching the 7:40 show in Toronto's Scotiabank AVX on release date? We should all chant something before the lights dim.

Was this shot in 3d or converted?
EDIT: Nvm saw above...very strange doing a half conversion

Wasn't originally going to be in 3D at all. So it was shot in 2D. Then he changed his mind and so all the film had to be converted while the CG just needed to be re rendered.

I tried to drum up some interest on Facebook last night:

This is sort of an open letter to movie fans of all ages.

This isn't another reboot. This isn't another origin story. This isn't another sequel. This isn't another prequel. This isn't another comic book movie. It isn't even another rubbish comedy starring Adam Sandler or another movie with Johnny Depp playing Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow.

This is Guillermo del Toro making a movie that he wants to see and knows us nerds, or action fans or anime fans want to see. This is a monster movie in every sense of the word but it's more than that. It's a risk. This is a ballsy move to make this sort of movie in Hollywood. This isn't based off a book or a comic or a play. This isn't headlined by Brad Pitt or Matt Damon or Robert Downey Jnr. This is something else. Something new.

These are the sorts of risks I want to see from Hollywood. It's never going to be everyone's cup of tea but at least it isn't the same old movie over and over like we get 50 times a year. This movie won't be 100% original, but what is anymore?

Watch the trailer. If you like monster movies, if you like action, if you'd like to see a blockbuster movie in every sense of the word, do yourself a favour and get to the cinema and check this out. Don't wait for the DVD or download it from the Internets. Get to the cinema and give movies like this your money so we can see more ballsy attempts at creating something new.

Oh and it has Ron Perlman in it. That alone should be enough.
