My Imax theater just added a 7PM screening. I just bought a 10 PM ticket like a week ago. I swear, if I miss that poster because of this crap I'm going to be supper pissed.

Oh well, movie is looking epic.

I'm going to a later IMAX screening, I'm gonna ask for a poster in case they have any left over.

I imagine all preview screenings will be covered, day of screenings may not have the poster option. They've sold out like 1/3-1/2 of the 10PM and have sold zero 7PM tickets so far at my theater. I can't imagine them screwing over all the people who didn't have the 7PM option.

Is there any reason why Eureka Striker outclasses the others fairly convincingly? Does Guillermo love VBs?

I am filled with stupid pride, nonetheless.

I don't know. Wasn't Evangelion kind of similar? Honest question, I have never seen the show.

Don't get your hopes up for RT. It's not very important anyways.

Where did you find the screenplay?

Eh, I've had it for months now. PM me if you want it.

It's both the newest Jaeger and the one stationed closest to the rift, meaning it needs to be well-equipped to handle a sudden threat.

I can't imagine them not giving out posters to the people who were buying tickets way ahead of time. Those are the people you want to support. Here's hoping it all works out.

For what it's worth, the IMAX site specifies "those attending the 10pm showing of Pacific Rim in IMAX® 3D on July 11" get one. Now, the only question is will theatre employees adhere to that rule...

My theater has seemed to follow the rules so far. Here's hoping that trend continues. Like I said, screwing those who are the biggest fans just won't end well. I'm sure they realize that.

even if i dont go im still getting both the theater poster and the imax poster because my brothers lady works there...oh yeah oh yeah!

goddam 22 pages in days, what happens when this movie blows?

Can you be more specific? To who exactly? And what do you mean by when? It's already has a pretty decent rotten tomatoes score and the posters who have seen it already have given it pretty favorable reviews so far.

I like this quote from RT:

Michael Bay eat your heart out. Guillermo del Toro has made one bigger, louder, faster and more destructive than you. Pacific Rim is Transformers on steroids, Godzilla to the power of 10, The Avengers turbo-charged and bigger-suited than Iron Man

Avg rating increased to 7.8

My friend saw it yesterday, his review is here:

Not a fan, unfortunately.

Pacific Rim is an artless mess masquerading as an opiate for the masses. It’s bawdy and pointless, devoid of original thought and far too focused on characters it can’t be bothered developing into anything other than archetypical parodies. It’s impressive in a ‘look at the things we can do with CGI now’ sort of way, but the big fight scenes that best showcase these wasted resources will inevitably make it to YouTube someday, and I’d advise waiting.

wtf is this lol?

wow i cant believe i gave this guy a fucking click...seriously this is by far one the most pretentious shits i have ever read, i am sorry i am literally laughing at that review right now.whether the movie is good or not that was garbage to the max. tell your friend that i am going to save that page and show all my friends, its fucking pathetic sorry lol.

Saw an early screening of it this evening... was awesome. Fight scenes were really cool, and the plot was ok for what it was (nothing spectacular, but it didn't get in the way of anything). Really, I walked out of it thinking it was a fun movie. Fun would actually probably be the best word to describe it with.

Rlan, you could also let your friend know that everyone I know who worked on those effects definitely would not have considered their time and effort as "wasted." Regardless of tne final quality of any film worked on, they always try to deliver their best in terms of the VFX work.

This is a great to hear and really it's the only thing that should matter with a movie such as this. As the more people talk about how fun it is as a movie, the better it will do in the long run.

I saw it tonight at a screening. tl;dr - Cool movie, I liked it, but it didn't blow me away. But it's a fun time. Also, the 3D sucked.

Now the longer version:

First, I'd be surprised if this movie bombs. I think it'll actually do pretty well at the box office. The screening I went to was fucking PACKED. Now, usually these lines are pretty long, since they're first come first serve, but this was absurd. The entire lobby of the theater was overflowing and the line went out the door! So I think a good amount of people know about this movie. That + everyone clapped at the end = potentially good WOM, I think.

On to the movie.

The CGI, kaiju/jaeger designs, the fight sequences, other fx, etc. all are insanely good looking. Some of the kaiju are a little samey, and I wish Del Toro didn't have essentially all the battles happen at night because the darkness makes it hard to make out the fucking beauty of what's going on. But even still, it looks pretty.

The script is boilerplate. Next.

The acting ranges from so-so to bad. Hunnam and Elba both kind of suck. Actually, mostly everyone kind of sucks; flat at best, shouting-as-acting at worst. The only exceptions are Charlie Day (surprisingly) and Ron Perlman (obviously). Easily the standouts, they're both a lot of fun.

The music is forgettable. At times I thought I heard bits of Game of Thrones, then I noticed Ramin Djawadi in the credits. :lol

I do NOT recommend seeing in 3D. The battles look fine, though I don't think the effect added anything to it. All of the non-kaiju/jaeger parts looked absolutely awful. I don't see that many 3D movies so I don't know where exactly this falls on the grand spectrum of things, but this is easily the worst 3D I've ever seen. Really fucking blurry and a shit ton of ghosting. Could be my theater, but like I said, the CGI parts looked fine, it was all the non-battle scenes that looked terrible.

All in all, it was a good time. Wasn't mind blowing, wasn't the ultimate genre movie, isn't going to be the landmark blockbuster of the century or whatever the fuck the hype has gotten to now. It's a fun movie of giant robots fighting giant monsters with a bunch of dumb cliched shit and some surprisingly funny moments in it.

Go see it. But not in 3D.

And stay for halfway through the credits.

Oh hell, typed that all up and it ended up near the bottom of the page. Shameless re-post!
