Fighting Games Weekly | July 8-14 | All roads lead here

A leveling RPG would be pretty awesome, especially if they can figure a way to provide some customization in there that wouldn't break the game along with their leveling.
Nah that would be very difficult to do without regular patching... oh wait that's a Riot specialty.

I think to avoid the SFxT syndrome they just can't put mechanics behind a pay wall. But it's Riot so that's very unlikely.

Brainfart, meant leveling FG but eh you get the idea.

I don't think they need to do anything paywall-ish with it. They could simply make everything within the game already and the more you play the better chance you have to get an item. Gives incentive to play more and for folks to improve.

I almost had a spit take watching that. Watching that reminds me that for all the drama and controversy surrounding them that it's just a bunch of kids in their 20's and 30's playing games and trying to make money being led by a hustler with poor management skills, who has a silver tongue that convinces people to stay and trust in him.

guys in their 20s and 30s aren't exactly kids.

I can give you a short story, back when Seb used to stream battlefield on Sundays for him. A rumor came out that he was rigging the brackets, so that Sanford could win and the winnings would be used to pay the Arc's rent.

Not just Sanford, it was rumored that he was rigging the bracket so that the top 3 places would be EMP so they take all the money. It started because Triforce would not let people see the bracket during Battlefield Arcadia. Only the people involved like Furby know the truth to this but what is certain is that the NY community started to boycott Battlefield Arcadia, thus Spooky and Guard Crush was born.

Whatever happened to Seb anyway?

Seb got sick of the stream monster constantly shitting on him so he cut all ties with it after he got a job at RoosterTeeth or some media company with a Rooster in their name.

Tencent, publisher of Xuan Dou Zhi Wang, which uses the LoL style of F2P model, owns Riot, so maybe they'll do an international version of the game? That would be cool.

A neat thing though is that you can even get costumes in game without paying for them. They are more expensive than characters themselves but you can just rent or hope to get lucky on some of the cards if you want to get it cheaper or for free.

They added a skill tree last patch (which was just a week ago), and I honestly don't know what anything says so I'm saving my skill points.

I don't see why not about the international version. SNK is supporting them, and I do find it funny that it translates to King of Combat (it's also only 1 chinese character away from King of Fighters). The only thing they need to change is the licensed songs in the lobby. I personally would be fine with getting rid of Adele but Everyone's Kung Fu Fighting should stay!

Ok, so start listing the shady stuff. The stories. They seem to be such common knowledge, but I've never actually come across them in my copious FGC reading on a daily basis.

Yeah, i've read plenty of the "gaf criticism." WIthout anything objective, which anyone can post at any time btw, it looks like a high school rumor mill.

Edit: I can agree on unprofessional. I've seen his streams lol

but the shadiness is an order of magnitude larger of an accusation, so lets stick to that
Mostly from the EMP exodus where players left because they didn't like how Triforce was running things. Art is the biggie, most have been tight lipped about it out of respect but have hinted (like Die). Then a wad of money shows up from VxG and they come back because VxG is willing to write cheques and give up front money, and something is better than nothing when there are no real sponsors on the East Coast. Then there's that EMP article someone mentioned above, which is the bulk of it. Depending on how you slice it, giving the entire community a fuck you and heralding yourself a prophet while attempting to discredit competitors can be considered shady and/or unprofessional as well. Shady is probably an extreme word in retrospect, but the rest of the adjectives for the caricature fit.

really tired of seeing emp vxg and triforce discussed here especially when there's nothing but hearsay that some folks are treating as facts. ughhhh
Who's treating them as facts? Facts of what? Working off of whatever information is available tells you exactly why Triforce has the reputation he has, and he seeks to validate it every time he opens his mouth in public forum while simultaneously preaching he doesn't deserve the titles he earns.

RE: Triforce in general:

I'm not calling the dude a criminal, or saying that he's exploited the FGC or something, or if there is indeed malicious intent behind what he does. I don't think that can be substantiated, and I really do believe dude wants best for the community or else he wouldn't have struggled along with EMP all these years. Dude is just misguided, and trouble follows him everywhere he goes. I don't really have a problem with the two recent VxG controversies either outside of Die asking for donations before providing an explanation why (which is inexcusable, really, especially considering he didn't give a reason why he couldn't immediately). The JailHouse thing? Petty business screw up, that shit happens but isn't a reason to dismiss Triforce or Rolando or whomever as the devil.

This is a man who yells expletives in the face of the two largest tournaments to come out of the FGC, two of the largest centres of growth in the community. Screams expletives in their direction AND gave the middle finger to the community at large on that one OBS(EDIT: It was actually LI Joe Show, and the quote is "f*ggot ass, putrid scene called the fighting game community", at 9:13), then continually latches onto the nondescript idea of eSports saving us from the bleak conditions in the FGC without doing much about it besides spreading negativity and adding fuel to fires. From what I understand too, EMP was a big part of the growth in the EC scene and the community at large once too, so it's not like Triforce is on a warpath to destroy the FGC, even now I think he has ideas he cannot communicate or act on when he has a bigger platform than most to do so.

Y'all claiming to look at things "objectively" seem to be quick to dismiss all the destructive tendencies he's got in lieu of a recent donation to the community from St. Maarten, which makes it difficult for me to see how someone can't understand why Triforce is disliked by some of us nobodies on the internet when all he does is stir shit up. And I firmly believe some of those who do go to tournaments on here would rather not Triforce be one of the present leaders of the community if he continues all of this destructive and negative shit when the community and TOs he's throwing shade at managed to build some infrastructure in the community without stooping down to shit slinging. I was at Toryuken 2 when Triforce was there, he's a fun guy. I wasn't sitting at the venue watching Top 8 going "DAMN WHY IS TRIFORCE HERE, FUCK THAT GUY FOR SOME SHIT HE SAID ON TWITTER," but the reality is that he still does say some shit at the end of the day that really doesn't help anyone and some may argue hurts the community's growth, even if it may come with a glimmer of truth in there somewhere sometimes.

And now I'm mad at myself for even wasting this much time typing this much over Triforce.

Hey Kapwan, doubt you remember me but we played a bit at Super during WNFs. I was the Canadian Chun player

yep, that's how it goes when you start ranting about Triforce...he has some godlike troll-like infectiousness that just makes you want to ask yourself what the fuck is going on

definitely an enigmatic guy

anyways, I agree with your assessment, which is pretty fair

Everyone posting about triforce operates under the assumption that he's a shady business man who dicks over his players and this is largely unfounded or not proven. People were even willing to draw their own conclusion and blame triforce for the recent controversies with out hearing anything. You even done it yourself in this post I'm quoting. Yes, triforce says some crazy shit and if you want to argue whether or not that crazy shit is harmful to our community of the FGC then we can do that but to gossip about shit we don't know he did is not only unfair it's annoying and distracting.

I don't triforce and all thought I don't like what he says and how he says it he coming from a place where he actually cares and has probably done shit for this community. I can't say he doesn't care and is willing to damage the FGC due to grudges. idk i dont know anything. I'm going to shut up.

Here's the thing re: Triforce - there's too much smoke for there to be no fire. In business/relationships/etc people normally try to avoid publicly badmouthing previous partners because it'll make future ones worried about experiencing the same thing eventually. (Mad Men did a great job playing off this.) As such, there's often a lot of things said "off the record" and "heard from someone" that no one's willing to go on the record with. If it's just an isolated incident or two? No problem. But when there's a repeated pattern, that's when you have to start taking it seriously.

Watching the evo stream, and man that Tokido vs John Choi ST match was such bullshit. Is there truth to the rumor that Tokido picked Zangief's stage to play on because it lagged the inputs? Making Vega's wall dives even cheaper I seem to remember hearing that somewhere, was it in the Weekly thread? Idk.

Expose over 30,000 people watching a stream to your 10 year old game with another version on the way for your struggling console? Nah.

Ouch.

I can't wait to see the Nintendorks come out of the woodwork to defend this rotten behavior. One of the many reasons I've been saying "fuck Nintendo" for years.
