my expectation had it had more to do with the premise connecting with critics. I love del ToroDel Toro is the director of this movie, so I was expecting high 70s to 80s

Fast and the Furious isn't exactly the best example for your casenot really. fast and furious franchise gets pretty good reviews all around the board.
critical opinion on blockbusters is hit or miss for me though. i really enjoyed lone ranger and john carter and those got demolished.
meanwhile abrams star trek franchise gets really stellar reviews and aside from the cast chemistry i think they're pretty terrible.
:lol :lol :lol
Glad I started a trend here. MOAR.
The theater I got tickets for only had a 10pm imax 3d showing for Thursday. Now there's a 7pm one too. I hope the posters will still be given outOne of the theater's Fresno added a 7, 7:35, and a 8 something pm screenings.
awwwww yes

Movies like this are better with a bawdy house in my opinion. You feed off the energy of the crowd. I remember the audience being energetic as hell at Fast Six, yet somber as hell at Man of Steel (which seems the opposite of many audiences GAFfers have had).T-minus 25 minutes to launch. The theater I'm in is packed, no kiddingginormous theatres, two of which are being used (and already partitioned for the press). Just about every demographic imaginable, too. It's going to be a bawdy house tonight.

Yeah, it's going to make for exciting times. I'll post my report as soon as I get home. And the 3D projection better work, as me and my old man had to get into a side-row.
So good. What's the font that you used?
huh? That's the only thing that could save this from bombing after the awful trailers and poor word of mouth.
huh?
Whose mouth are you hearing words from? Crazies, that's who.I'm thrilled this is getting good reviews. That's the only thing that could save this from bombing after the awful trailers and poor word of mouth.!
Updated! Danke!Good ol' Impact.
From trailers. People were saying it looked stupid. People that have seen it are mostly saying it's good.
RT down to 83, but it hit 40 reviews so it got the Certified Fresh label.

variety just can't let up the doom and gloom. fuck these guys.
That's what I thought was the plan in the first place. The "first" showing would get the poster. Well, at least that's how I thought it was gonna be. There was only a 10pm listing on Fandango's website for the last week but then a 7pm showing was added today. So I'm not sure what's gonna happen with that poster :/Wait they are giving out posters for the 10 pm screening?
All of their users don't seem to be happy with Legendary leaving Warner. I would love for this to blow up in their face and Pacific Rim to do well.http://variety.com/2013/film/box-of...ith-25-million-35-million-opening-1200560676/

At this point it seems all the talk about the disappointing box office tracking is what's actually hurting the box office tracking.
People bitching about critics are hilarious, since in aggregate they are rarely off the mark, and they aren't panning this film anyway. Without critics garbage like transformers would rule the film industry, someone has the hold the rein of standards and they are doing a hell of a better job than people on neogaf.

Because they did such a wonderful job of preventing Transformers from getting three sequels right?
Get the figures while you can, guys. They sold out almost immediately at TRU. And wave 2 has Striker Eureka (Australian Jaeger), Battle Damaged Gypsy Danger with Energy Swords, and Leatherback (Kaiju)!
Oh, and the art book is glorious. Well, from the one non-spoiler page I've peaked at. Come on Thursday!

Self fulfilling prophecy. I really hope good word of mouth takes this movie far.
Me too, me too. I think $60 million is possible if positive hype builds for the next 2-3 days. Most likely I think this will land around $45 million.
Is this the one?

Would you say it's "kid friendly"? I.e. is it as fragile as some of the reviews are saying?
One of my favorite critics, Tom Shone, posted this on his twitter:
Call off the hounds! The most lovingly crafted bit of blockbuster sublimity since Cameron's Avatar, review to come
He gave it an A-, which is a rare grade, only other film this year he gave that to was Before Midnight, which by most accounts was a great film just like the last two.
I like Tom Shone a lot. He's clearly very educated and articulate in his love of cinema, but his favorite director is Steven Spielberg, and is not above praising a well-done blockbuster.
Have I mentioned yet how hyped I am?and now he's put it as his favorite film of the year! Must've really enjoyed it

(I think he gave Avengers a C-, so this one's for you, TheKaeptain)
