Nintendo of America not allowing SSBM to be streamed at EVO [Up: Decision Reversed]

GAF delivers again. Amazing gif

Oh hell yes thank you so much Nintendo, now I'll have the proper P4A coverage I was looking forward all year to w-

No wait they just reverted the decision.

So sick and tired of how the American FGC keeps shitting on Arc System Works games. Meanwhile that shovelware Mortal Kombat keeps its crazy huge stream schedule, despite having less attendance than P4A.

Its called money hats. NRS/WB putting in money and effort to keep their fighting games in the limelight as much as possible. They got a near dead game to appear at EVO along with a game that originally wasn't even supposed to be at EVO. That is called support. Big Japanese companies even Capcom/Namco should take note, especially Namco.

ok what happened.

need the story nao

is there a summary post?

evo posted an update that nintendo wasn't allowing smash to be streamed anymore. news stories came out, reddit threads, twitter "EVO" and "smash bros" trending across U.S, miiverse flood. apparently people calling customer service heard that the reasoning was that EVO hadn't notified them or filled out their paper work. next thing we know, evo updates their page and smash is back in. didn't take long.

people thanking triforce johnson because he twittered that he was trying to sort the situation out, whether that actually mattered is unknown

I shit on that game too and I'm one of their biggest fans. MK has it's stream schedule because it's pretty much being payed for by WB stop crying about it.

It's kind of weird how Namco is as absent as rhey are co,sidering Markman's fairly chummy with them. Will say that they did support the local convention scene last hear in some small capacity, which not many companies do.

If it was because they hadn't filled out paperwork that makes sense. As backwards as Nintendo can be this was very uncharacteristic of them.

I remember the previous answers to concerns like those of the poster you quoted. Before the answer was getting huge side tournaments going at EVO, then it was about getting numbers at majors, then weeklies and now moneyhats. I wonder what answers people will have next year.

I just find it weird considering how P4A managed more than double the numbers of BB yet everyone is still so pessimistic about it. I think you are right for the most part. New challenges and requirements come up over time. Folks are just caught off guard when the height bar for the roller coaster keeps going up lol.

Gaf, you so funny. I was going to apologize individually to each of you who were butt hurt by my comments...

but then I said nah, I cant apologize for having an opinion. Enjoy your game guiz! I will not make fun of you anymore.

Im out dis bitch

Watch Reggie make a surprise appearance on Saturday during the trophy award to thank the fans for supporting Nintendo and blah blah blah.

You know what was good about all this, all the people on miiverse who were like "wtf is evo?" may end up watching now! it was a publicity stunt!

Glad it's reversed, but holy shit the entire situation is blood boiling to begin with. An amazing showing from fans raising so much money being directly shit upon by idiots in suits who don't understand what year they're living in. This never should have even been on the thought process of happening.

Well that's what really makes me angry, whenever an ASW game was turned down the reason was always "not enough attendance", but now that a game does manage decent numbers it still gets shoved aside to obscurity, leaving it to die due to lack of exposure.

I mean, I'm really grateful for the P4A side streams that the community is putting out, don't get me wrong you guys are awesome, but it still feels like the battle was lost. MK9 has lesser attendance numbers and still gets full official coverage. At this point you have to wonder, was there any hope to begin with?

To be honest I think it's not as much money hats as it is all the toxic mentality of some of the more vocal members the American FGC to hate on certain games for being "too anime" (while still playing Capcom games, since they're hypocrites). The damage caused by those jerks is probably much greater than what some would think.

Don't worry guys. Quality speaks for itself. I wonder what excuse will the ASW haters come up with once BB Chrono Phantasma and GG Xrd come out, both are looking to be terrific games.

I really hope GG makes it back to Evo in the future. That's going to be my new 2nd game since I dropped Marvel.

Too many people have been jumping to conclusions. We don't even know the details of what actually happened. For all we know Melee was always going to be streamed at EVO and the schedule change was just temporary while both parties got all their legal shit together.

I mean, just look at the quote: "We’ve just been informed by Nintendo of America Inc. that we do not have permission to broadcast Super Smash Bros. Melee for Evo 2013." And now that it's back on, it's likely that EVO got Nintendo's permission. The whole thing was blown out of proportion, but probably for the best as it most likely gave Nintendo extra motivation to get the permission issues settled.

I think that the games that ASW makes are great, & I'm an American.

I figured they would reverse their decision. From earlier:

I do think Nintendo will bend, though. There is already so much outcry. They reversed their (also silly) LP YouTube policy, I think it's fairly likely they'll do the same here. (Doesn't make it any less stupid or damaging at the moment, though.)

I'm actually more impressed at how quick they turned it around. I thought it might be another day or two.

(...Region-locking next?)

Thanks a lot Nintendo. Now it's back from 12-4 I'll be skipping. God dam they are stupid. Why not just let the game be streamed in the first place, how could they expect anything other then backlash on this.

Meanwhile Prog is probably zonked half-naked on the floor next to at least one empty bottle of Jack Daniels, unaware of Nintendo's reversal.

He'll be thrilled in the morning.
