The drama sticks to its tropes without seeming hackneyed (one scene involves visiting Mako's memories in the midst of a neural connection, which is surreal); the action's the best I've seen in a while, with breathing room and infinite amounts of destruction kept in the background; if anything, there's a great amount of world-building that implies numerous things about the dramatis personae and how people live, all without directly revealing these things. That, to me, is the best kind of character development for this kind of story, where the stakes are informed by rich context.

Fucking awesome. Telling not showing is a plague on modern blockbusters. Glad to hear Pacific Rim avoids that.

Its crazy that its tracking so low. You literally can't walk around a block in Manhattan without seeing a pacific rim ad. I hear people who aren't even into sci fi films talking it up randomly.

I hope its like inception and just slaughters.

Just got my tickets for a 7pm Thursday showing!

Aaaaannnndddd... it's on my birthday!

Might have to pick up a figure on the way there :D

Just realised that this movie being awesome on the box offices means that we have more chance of Del Toro getting green light to direct Cthulhu AND Constantine !

OMFG I AM AN ATHEIST AND I AM PRAYING FOR EVERY GOD I KNOW FOR THIS MOVIE TO SELL LIKE WATER IN THE DESERT

I really want that IMAX poster, but I won't be able to make the first-night screening. :(

I can only hope that they offer it later for sale on its own [although I doubt it].

Got to see it earlier tonight at Hollywood premiere in the Dolby Theater. That place is fancy as fuck, free drinks and popcorn. Movie delivered, Came out satisfied.

Pacific Rim poster by Yoji Shinkawa (spoiler-y due to
swords
).

Oh my God, get Del Toro on a Zone of the Enders movie.

Personally speaking, I'd love to get the chirashi for this (a small handbill-like poster).

Not the same, but Kojima tweeted a somewhat higher res (or at least somewhat bigger) version of the poster. Maybe printing it out on nice paper would be a lower cost alternative to getting one from overseas?

Getting hyped for the movie. My company rented the Alamo Drafthouse so that we can watch the movie Thursday at noon. Watching it with my co-worker buddies is gonna be fun.
