I find it funny how most reviewers main complaints are about the weak and cliched script. People need to understand that all these so called perceived cliches and faults are actually part of the anime mecha Genre. It's supposed to have a cheesy over the top dialouge with wooden stoic actors. The Genres main selling point is all about the incredible battles and spectacle. I feel most reviewers just don't understand the typical Genre tropes and mistakenly assume that its a weak script.

Fucking this.

just found out on kojima's twitter that shinkawa did the Japanese poster art...

I need to own this.
Seriously, I would be willing to pay $50+ [before shipping] for this poster.

Please tell me that they'll have some commercially available...

You mean this film won't make me question the dilemmas of existence?
Pre-order cancelled.

Captain America? The most boring and forgettable of all of them. I don't even remember any of the supporting characters. Or any of the action setpieces. Maybe not as bad as Fantastic Four, but definitely the most dull.
My favorite part is when he wakes up 70 years later and finds out everyone he ever knew or loved is dead, and responds by getting ready to kick some ass with Samuel L. Jackson.

Talk about imbuing your characters with realism.

I agree. The singing and him being all Captain America done in cheesy montage drags the movie down for me.
I thought they would show him dealing with the time-skip as that was the most interesting aspect of him, they didn't.

Wow. CA is my favorite Marvel movie right after Avengers! Love the old school and Raiders vibe in the whole movie. Of course if people want flashy action this is not their movie, but its been a long time there was a movie with this sense of adventure since probably the Rocketeer.

Thor is awesome. I fell asleep during Captain America.

Captain America felt like a comic book movie before comic book movies got good again. Super boring. Thor was so surprisingly good. Hemsworth was super funny, charismatic, and funny. The fish out of water scenarios were great. CA was so meh.

Captain America wasn't quite as dull as The Avengers, but it's close.

Also, 'you liked this other movie I didn't like so our opinions on this other movie will be different' just seems desperate.

you should watch Tintin. It has more adventure than Raiders

psyched for this movie. Story is criticized for biung cliche? Lol, of course, who the hell was expecting otherwise...it's a movie about giant robots vs giant monsters, that's the main hook there, not the profoundly deep characterizations

I like this Patton Oswalt quote

"Saw PACIFIC RIM earlier today. It's all right if you're into movies that are awesome and gut-punch you with brilliance."

Eww, what's with all this grody Marvel talk?

It's the 1385th time I've confessed my love for Captain America and WITHOUT FAIL it gets GAF on a rampage every single time.

Sorry.

I couldn't imagine anyone was expecting profoundly deep characters, but serviceable would have been nice.

Hey guys, I think something is strange with this release. It seems almost every theater I have frequented in the last 5 years is only playing this 1/3 of the times big releases usually get played. Does this mean that theaters bet heavily on Lone Ranger instead of Pacific Rim? Or does it mean that the actual showtimes haven't been added for Friday until later in the week? Usually I can see upcoming showtimes a week in advance. I'm kinda bummed that the big theaters near So Cal only have like half the showings of Lone Ranger and Grown Ups when it comes to this film.

I also enjoyed Captain America, and Pacific Rim is one of the first movies I'm reviewing professionally (gonna have to see it a second time this weekend to take notes). I guess we'll see how our opinions match up.

I'm going to see it on Friday and I fully expect those characters to be very serviceable. It all depends about the level of cheese, but Idris Elba should make it all very digestible

Pacific Rim poster by Yoji Shinkawa (spoiler-y due to
swords

I got to see this early. I expected a trainwreck, and, while I still walked out thinking the movie wasn't quite great, it really did set the bar for the genre. The monster designs FLOORED ME. The action was rock solid and quite a spectacle to watch. The scale is ridiculously awesome. I just wasn't in love with everything else.

I'll elaborate later tonight or early tomorrow - I have a wrist injury and can't type much at the moment. Someone else said "there's no bullshit and it does exactly what it sets out to do" - pretty spot on.

The AP review which is carried by hundreds of syndicates in USA tomorrow morning gave a bad review.

Though it's made by an obviously gifted director and will likely please devotees of the genre, it ultimately feels very short on character and long on noise, noise, noise.

You could make another film for half the budget in the time it takes to roll the end credits for CGI imaging. There's stuff to look at, but doesn't anybody care that it doesn't make a word of sense?

How is this guy a top critic ?!!!!

A movie about Robots and Aliens, but she expected a little Tolstoy flare I gather?

Frankly I couldn't give a shit about the characterization, if it boiled down to "We're the good guys, we need to stop those bad monsters, lets get in robots" and the rest was action of said good guys against bad monsters I'd be completely okay with that.

Doesn't need to be deep or emotional impact or anything, I came to see robots vs monsters.

Trust me, I feel your pain.

I've been scouring the Internet since seeing this picture, but I've come up empty-handed. I think this is one of those things that's produced purely for theaters in Japan and nothing else. It'd be nice to have it commercially-produced, and I would even be willing to use a Japanese proxy to purchase it, but I think this is going to be one of those impossible-to-find items which is a shame considering how incredible it is. -_-
