Frankly I couldn't give a shit about the characterization, if it boiled down to "We're the good guys, we need to stop those bad monsters, lets get in robots" and the rest was action of said good guys against bad monsters I'd be completely okay with that.

Doesn't need to be deep or emotional impact or anything, I came to see robots vs monsters.

My man!!

:D

If that's what you're expecting, I can tell you that you will be pleased. :)

I showed the trailer to my friend and he was blown away!!! He was like its like a dark gritty Power Rangers movie... lol

Can't wait to watch this movie!!!

This movie is barely going to come in #1. People will even say it bombed. There are pre-contracts already with Lone Ranger and Grown Ups. And theres no way theyre taking Despicable Me 2 off screens to give this more play. I suggest any of you in big cities look at the showtimes and see the number of showings per theater. It's tragic. However I hope I'm terribly wrong and that everyone is able to see this and make it a lot of $$$

Even with 3d Showings added, it's still less screenings than Grown Ups 2.

So for the IMAX poster, is it only 10pm showing? I notice there is a 7pm showing tomorrow too at my theater and I have work friday :/
I'm not sure either [not that it matters, I won't be able to see this movie until next week ~_~].

The way it's worded is that it's for the 10PM showing, but it would be odd not to have the earlier showing have it.

It has IMAX exclusive, and my theater is pushing DM2 3D back to a smaller theater to put this in the bigger one.

Soooo, 2D or 3D?

Some people have said it's bad with lots of ghosting, some people have said it's the best 3D they've seen.

Soooooo whatever you usually see I guess?

Depends on where I look. Most theaters around here have PacRim on more screens except one AMC theater that isn't showing PacRim at all (wtf).

I hope all theaters follow your theaters lead.

So, IMAX 3D or RealD 3D? I have 2 theaters each across the street from each other- if you'd believe it, IMAX 3D showings are actually cheaper during prime-time.

Where's that for? Here in Sheffield, it's like this.

Depends on the size of your IMAX screen and how comfortable the glasses are.
The LieMAX screen here is smaller than the screen in the two biggest auditoriums, so I always try and see which showtimes are in the big houses.
Also, the IMAX 3D glasses hurt like hell here. So much pressure on the lower part of my nose.

Here, there's only one single 2D AVX showing for Pacific Rim. It's at 4:30. I reserved tickets for that one, will have to book it over after work.

I'm just tired of 3D.

I ensured we got excellent seats though.

The theater I'm going to see it at doesn't even have any Grown Ups 2 screenings. For Friday they have just 5 IMAX screenings for Pacific Rim and no 2D screenings, and the rest (combined 2D&3D numbers): 22 screenings for Despicable Me 2, 10 Monsters U, 10 WWZ, 7 Man of Steel, 5 Star Trek.

Soooo, 2D or 3D?

Everyone says the 3d is good!

I dont get some of these critics, the time magazine one sounds like he likes it then you read his last paragraph and no it sucks. Who do these critics not write a review in context on what to expect from action movies, its like they want deep multy layer charatcers when things like that will bog down the whole premise of the movies. The point is the action we all know that they all know that so then why do they do it?

While I applaud for the goodness of movies everywhere, I wonder why they would shirk off that much guaranteed money.

The theaters I'm drawing screenings from are in Orange County California. Anaheim and surrounding areas to be exact. I might just have to try an Imax theatre and hope they are showing it in 2D. This was just strange for me. Thor, Iron Man, Avengers, Prometheus, World War Z had at least 16 showings. To see this movie average 8-10 in Orange County theaters is weird.

In regards to screenings: my theater is 5 for GU2 and 7 for PR, though the latter also includes 2 3D shows.

Could some theaters prioritize certain movies if there's a historical trend in their area for certain genres?

Real IMAX, 8 story screen. The glasses are OK, but my eyes always start to water like halfway through a 3D movie.

Okay, I live in Las Vegas and had to check this for myself. Damn, you're right. It's sparse.

The most showings for the movie seems to be at Boulder Station. Five showings a day for the 2D and five for the 3D.

KyjqG88.png

Century Orleans, a really nice theater, has only four 2D showings and four 3D showings a day.

ETGFPEm.png

The Palms, a very popular theater here in town that sometimes gets Hollywood events at their theater, only has four showings for the 2D and one.... only one.... for the 3D a day.

qLs7wlT.png

I'm looking this up on July 12th, the official opening day. There's a few evening showings on the 11th.

On that same day, the 12th, the Lone Ranger is playing practically every hour at most of the theaters and the same goes with Despicable Me 2. Even Grown Ups 2 has more showings.

A brand new release of a big budget film that has less showing than a movie that's been out for over a week? This is sad. Really sad.... and pathetic. I mean.... Grown Ups 2.... Really?

Edit: Oops. The Palms has five IMAX showing including the one's I posted here so they have the most showings. Still overall sparse compared to other new, big movie openings.

I'm choosing IMAX personally [it's a real IMAX too - Edmonton, AB] since I feel that Pacific Rim is one of those movies I'll want to see on the biggest screen possible.

As for the 3D...eh, I'd prefer 2D, but as long as it doesn't detract from the experience, I don't mind.

"You get 45 minutes of awesome encased in 90 minutes of yawnsome."

The fuck is with entertainment journalism nowadays. They're either way too serious or you get this shit.

Yeah it sucks. I hope we're the anomaly and that this will be all over in the U.S. I called my big local theater and they suggested if the showings sell out they can add a couple during the weekend. They did however suggest I catch Lone Ranger or Grown Ups 2 which has plenty of showings!

YES YES YES YES TWO POSTERS

These are probably the posters they keep out just for people to grab when leaving the theatre. There was a World War Z one. There's like a million copies, we never ran out.

edit: Sorry, double excitement

USA Today article on the VFX. A few battle scene descriptors may be considered very slight spoilers to anyone wanting to stay completely in the dark, but these sections seemed safe:

"These robots have shoulders and hips, like we do, but we had to dive deep into their joints and make sure everything in there moved as it logically would for a machine," he says.

That meant making sure that all the machine-like pistons and connecting rods that animated a joint actually moved whenever a Jaeger took a step, even if those movements are barely discernible to the human eye.

"One of our questions was always, 'Could somebody manufacture that?' And if the answer was no, we started over," says Alex Jaeger, a senior visual-effects art director on the project. "If you think about these robots as battleships, that's where we were going. Every rivet and plate had to make sense. And all the battle damage also had to be reflected on those panels."

"Guillermo was all over almost every aspect of this film," says Jaeger with a laugh. "Some directors tell you, 'Let's just get it done.' And he'd come to a meeting and say (of a scene), 'Can we make this room feel like it's a hothouse filled with steam?' "

Del Toro readily admits he was like a kid in a toyshop. Although he put the project up for bid, he not-so-secretly hoped ILM would get the job.

"I come from an optical effects background, and I've always had immense respect for what these guys have done," says del Toro, whose surreal sensibilities are on display in movies such as 2006's Pan's Labyrinth. "Often, people working with effects are scolded, 'You care more about the effects than the characters.' But in this case, the effects are the characters."

The Mexican director says working with ILM was "a true partnership, much like the one a director might have with an actor or cinematographer." He pushed the team hard to nail digital effects such as speed of motion, camera angles and hyper-real Jaeger and Kaiju surface details, "from ripped skin to scarred metal plates."

Holy crap holy crap holy crap.

I HAVE NO GODDAMN REGAL THEATERS IN MY CITY.

Alright, if anybody, anybody is going to a Regal theater, if you can score an extra poster, I will buy it from you. I got $40 bucks. That sounds fair, right? I will also cover shipping. If you can give it cheaper, I'd appreciate it, haha.

How big is it? Like, a legit, large poster right?

If it's like the World War Z ones, no. It'll be like 16 by 16 or something like that.

The fact that it's only available from the 12th through the 14th may mean that it's bigger, though. Not sure. I work tonight so I can check for you guys if we have 'em already.

There's no Regal Theaters in this COUNTRY [Canada]. -_-

Ugh, I want this poster so bad...

Thanks, that'd be appreciated [even though I don't have access to them, I'm still curious]. :(

I'd appreciate it if you could find out, thanks bud.

If it's like an actual, large proper size poster (at least 24 x 36), I will buy it in a heartbeat.

Showings are sparse in Boston too. :/

Debating about going to the 7pm showing by myself tomorrow or waiting for my fiancee to get back on Friday. I don't want to wait any longer but I don't like seeing movies by myself, especially on opening night

Honestly, even if it's smaller than 24 x 36, I'd still purchase it.

Yes, that's how much I want need that poster. As I said, I live in Canada though so it appears like I'm out of luck.

I'll keep my eye on this thread and see if any appear for purchase. I will not give up hope!

Yeah it'll be easy to find out if we have them. I think we should...I know the marketer came a couple days ago.

Makes me nervous about me getting one if they're super exclusive. Might have to see it for a second time this weekend at my theatre lol

Thanks for the tip as just so happens Regal is the theatre closest to me. I even saw the disappointment that was GINO in it. So I went ahead and bought the tickets online the posters will be mine.
