New Killzone: Shadow Fall gameplay

huge KZ fan but this is a terrible demo. Enemies are amazingly dumb and non agressive. Pacing is bad. Player is bad. The entire point ot the Howl thing is to freeflow the game : make it hack as you shoots enemies. make you more efficient in your pacing. Here, it just takes your time to give pointless order to show the howl when you could just shoot the 3 dudes in an instant
This.

They should have done a different video. If you target the hardcore you shouldn't treat the potential player as someone completely dumb. But I have to disagree in one thing, the mechanics are great (or at least seem to be).

What should have been? Hard setting with a very skilled player, mixing good stealth action with free fire fights.

Not so hard, is it?

I find this second demo less impressive technically.. And some parts don't look exceptionally next gen to me, with some crappy rock models for example.

But the worse, i think, is that next gen games will suffer a lot from youtube compression :( What's the point in seeing a 1080p feed with blurry parts all over it. The crisp aspect is totally gone.

Graphically, I find this contextually unimpressive. Regarding gameplay, I'm even less impressed. These are the guys who gave us this:

'last' gen. Shadow Fall doesn't look much better than the competition, frankly. The animations are re-used from Killzone 3, there's a strange blurring evident in even 1080p direct feed footage, where other games (like MGSV) look crisp ... I'm disappointed with this.

Hopefully the multiplayer will be interesting, but this feels less and less like a Killzone 4 everytime I see it.

I fully agree. With PS4 and Xbone most games are going to be 1080p at 30 or 60fps. YouTube videos (due to low bitrate/high compression, max 30fps) lose a great deal of the fine details that make next-gen games standout. Sony and Microsoft need to think about hosting high quality videos someplace other than YouTube.

And allow people to download them. Right now Gamersyde has become our best friend.

I never will understand the complaints about gameplay about this game. Looks to me GG did a great job in improving the gameplay with OWL and open non-linear gameplay mechanics.

They do use H.264 for both Flash and HTML5 players. But there's all kinda of stuff that can mess up a video, bitrate not being the least.

YouTube isn't the problem. I mean it'll always be compressed but you could play very nice looking stuff from there if its set up properly.

x264 is a free and open source H.264 encoder and it's the best available.

I've done plenty of testing using a shitload of different setting combinations and no amount of setup makes a difference to what YouTube gives you. They'll always re-compress everything down to the 3-5Mbit range using whatever shit encoder they use and that just isn't enough for fast-paced 1080p.

Holding out to see if multiplayer has anything to offer. Footage looks pretty...boring. Then again I'm more of a multiplayer kind of guy in general. Single player fps' have to really hit the right note for me to gain interest.

game looks very boring IMO

This post is boring, always from the same people too.

The video compression really ruins this.

How are Sony and MS going to effectively promote their graphics when youtube is the primary medium for video content?
It's such a night and day difference too between these shitty youtube videos and the uncompressed stuff we're lucky to get Gamersyde. I wish Sony and MS would wake up on this.

It's like dejavu from Killzone 2.

Halo 3 best AI.
Killzone 2 worst AI.

Upon release Killzone 2 has great AI.
Come on. Killzone's AI is just not very engaging, that's a fact. We're not talking about Colonial Marines Zombie Xeno levels of stupid AI here, but there's not denying that KZ's AI is subpar.

Also, there's no need to bring Halo into the discussion.

Re-used? Which animations?

You have to be talking about Killzone on PS2? haha

Either I'm imagining things or I've seen better playthroughs of that section off-screen at either E3 or the London event.

That was played very boring.

Damn...

I was quite hyped for this game, even after seeing all the other vids, but this one really deflated my hype. The game looks gorgeous and i love the level sizes, but holy shit, i am not liking a few things i saw here.

1. The AI appeared dumb
2. The Voice Acting was cringe worthy
3. The gameplay looked boring

I don't know if it was because the person playing was bad, but there was absolutely no suspense or interest in the gameplay when watching this. I was more like "Yay..?". Hopefully they can tighten up the AI when the game ships, or perhaps this was on easy difficulty and not indicative of its "potential". I also feel like the way the helghast react to the OWL is really cheap, its like they are attracted to look at it as soon as the player sends it their way. Really hoping i enjoy this when i get it day one with the PS4.

To be fair, he did leave off the word "generic" :)

I think the term is beaten to death, the game looks just fine, and I can't believe people are still doubting the A.I. This is a demo, and almost everyone that's played it so far on footage is terrible. You want them to ramp up the A.I more for these people?

Just... no... Killzone 2 had the best A.I I've ever seen in a game. Sub-par? Have you ever played them?'

The sound for the fully automatic function on the main rifle sounds pretty lame actually. :(

The single shot high powered shot is great though.

And just for that secondary function I'll be sure to keep that gun on me during the whole playtrough :D I wish we could hear it in bullet time mode hnnng

Dat Lighting, dat particle effects. :D
Looks really nice and I'm still really happy that they finally have more open areas.

Yup. This is not a good way to showcase a graphics showcase.

That being said, I doubt it will bother most people, but the pop-in/draw-in really had a negative impact on the overall look of the game for me.

Some might disagree with me, but I feel as though the Killzone series needs more exotic and exciting sci-fi weaponry/equipment to make it feel more interesting and unique. I see the potential behind this gameplay video, especially with the OWL and the open environments, but the core gameplay still appears to be same ol' same ol' as far as first-person shooters are concerned.

I'm still remaining cautiously optimistic about this title though, as we haven't seen a whole lot from this game yet.

Have you played Killzone 2? For me the AI appeared to be very good.

Interesting you mention that. Killzone 3 went in that exact direction, and I personally loved it. Every level at some point, they would give you an extremely awesome / powerful weapon. I thought it basically cemented that perfect FPS feel. I'm psyched to see secondary fire in Shadows fall :) I'm hoping it'll lead to some amazing gameplay.

It's hard to believe that Shadow Fall is a generation leap from Killzone 2, and not in a good way.

We've seen 2 environments so far and one was in the wooded area. Want to see some trees falling over? I admit it would be cool, but is it necessary?

Yeah i agree. Release the uncompressed version. At least we got to hear the audio though.

The rope thing makes no sense?

What is it attaching to? Why is it flying out of nowhere.

Game looks pretty boring also...

I only brought Halo 3 into the discussion because it was in reference to an article than EGM wrote back in 2007.

But the AI is certainly not subpar. Much of the Gaf community thought Killzone 2's AI was a pleasant surprise after seeing gameplay demoes of the game on easy mode/god mode and seeing the EGM article bashing the AI.

After seeing it so many times, I'm actually disappointed with the graphics in this section of the game. This jungle area doesn't look that good. How about some more grass instead of random patches here and there. And the textures need improved.

The fly-over of the city in the first gameplay vid back in Feb was impressive.

The textures are actually excellent. GG noted in their tech talk that they are using 2k textures in Killzone:SF. The problem is the poor quality of the YouTube video, so they look much, much worse than they will when you see them on a big screen TV.

I thought it was simply firing from the OWL and sticking to whatever? I'm not sure I'm on the same page.

Also, the game looks like an FPS. Do you not like FPS? Which one looks exciting to you?
