Remembering Ryan Davis, 1979 - 2013

If you really want closure just connect the dots.

He had Sleep Apnea.
He likely died in his sleep based on the tweet from his wife and his dad saying he died peacefully at home.
There was also a tweet from his wife which mentioned she slept in their bed for the first time since it happened.

I don't think its too hard to figure out what happened.

edit: oh, and this tweet by Ryan's dad pretty much confirms what I and many others already deduced:

Yanno...I have sleep apnea. Sleep study results said I stop breathing 53 times an hour. Tried using a couple different machines for nearly two months and finally said "Fuck it." and stopped the trial as it's uncomfortable, awkward and in some ways, embarrassing to be wearing a plastic tube and a "reverse vacuum" on my face when I'm lying in bed next to my wife.

I bought a new machine yesterday because of what happened to Ryan and what's happening to his friends and family right now.

Better for me to feel embarrassed and awkward than to feel dead.

Good. It's not worth dying over.

If others do this too, at least Ryan's passing could build awareness and saves lives.

Yep. That'll pretty much do it. What insane timing for something that could have happened at any time to happen. Not that there's a convenient time to die, but I still can't even fathom how his wife feels. Five fucking days...
I feel horrible saying this but atleast he didn't have kids. Parental deaths are terrible especially at a young age.

Sorry if that comes across as callous it isn't my intention :/

Agreed, though I'm sure Anna would do a great job at raising a Ryan Jr!

Also the fact that they were actually maried saves a bunch of legal trouble for the succession (well in Quebec anyway, I imagine it's similar in the states?)

w-w-w-wuh? How did I forget about this.

shame they couldn't really do more stuff together with garnett working far away. Pretty sure garnett would have loved the bar at whiskey media.
Totally forgot about this.

I wasn't familiar with GB at the time but going back and listening to this now with my knowledge will be interesting.

Thanks!

I've been using CPAP machines for over a decade. They used to be awful 10 years ago - basically a vacumn cleaner type device strapped to your face, with continuous air pressure.

As you have probably found out by now, the new machines are small, quiet and have variable air pressure that is based on your natural breathing. My current machine is the size of a lunch box and is really quiet.

All of my previous partners got used to it after a night or two, and ended up liking the white noise at night. It helped them to fall asleep.

Hope you get used to it soon. It's a really easy ailment to treat with the new tech out there.

You're not wrong.

In the end, it's just pride fuckin' with me.

Not that I think Ryan was being reckless or anything like that. His passing really brought it home for me though.

Nothing in Quebec is similar to anything anywhere else but Quebec. If you live there, you should know that already.

My doc has been after me to do a sleep study for this issue.

The gf has also been after me.

I've been hesitant to do it.

I'm making an appointment today.

Thanks for this. Seems clear what happened. I'm glad it was peaceful. It's eerie though.

having a party this weekend
many burger patties formed by plates will be eaten
and we will be listening to nothing but the realest summerjams all day

Understand what you're talking about before opening your mouth.

By Sanj. It's perfectly Ryan.

That is fucking awesome. The GB crew needs to print and frame this and put it on the wall where they shoot TNT and UF.

I couldn't bring myself to finish the last 15 minutes of the latest Bombcast until my walk today. When Vinny started crying at the end.. yeah, that was definitely rough on him and on all them but I almost lost it too. They did a great job sending him off with that, and with all the videos they're posting this week. May have to get some of that bourbon they mentioned was his favorite.

I wrote a little blog post about how gamers deal with death.

I think its cool how we immortalized those no longer with us as NPC's in games. No other community really does that except us.

yes, I did get somewhat teary eyed when writing it.

I wish there would be a nod to ryan in Saints Row 4.

Great writeup. I always love seeing these, warms the heart. I think Blizzard has quite a few memorials scattered throughout World of Warcraft.
