Yeah going by myself, my wife is not interested no matter what I try. I think I can get my dad to bring my little brother though after he hears what I think of it. I need it to be Saturday morning!

Just finished watching ! The plot was kinda meh , but the action was amazing !
Finally a robot movie well done !

Hopefully I will get go see it again on Saturday , also love the main theme .

Pd posters ?

Does Knifehead not have that much articulation?
Nope. It's almost embarassing how little it has. You've got the jaws, shoulders, elbows, hips, knees, and a bendy tail. While that might sound like a lot, the arm articulation is pretty bad, the jaws can't completely close because the tongue is in the way, and the little arms can't move at all. I'm hoping Leatherback from series 2 works out better; while Knifehead was certainly a pretty cheap piece of merc for its size, I expected better from NECA after seeing their Team Fotress 2 figures.

Gypsy Danger's worst articulation problems are the head not turning and the shoulder pads hindering the arm range. Still is a big and fun figure and you have enough articulation to get more than a few fighting poses.

Crimson Typhoon apparently has zero articulation problems.

Haha, that's actually more articulation than I expected for Knifehead, so perhaps I'll be pleasantly surprised. Shame that Danger's head can't move, but it's still a very handsome figure.

I think I am going to see this on Saturday. None of my friends want to go....I need new friends.

Gonna check this out as a matinee. Old many style, on my own.

That's the best way to go, it's cheap and for the most part, old people are quiet, though they get up a LOT to pee.

Will be watching this tonight at 11:00.
Friend and I will actually go to a theatre that we never tried before- the Cine Capri at Harkins theatre.

Anyone have experience with the Cine Capri? Ticket is only $10 but no 3D.

The Onion being awesome, as usual -

U.S. Stock Market Soars After Bernanke’s Reassuring Comments About ‘Pacific Rim’
‘The Giant Monsters And Robots Look Fucking Amazing,’ Says Fed Chief

WASHINGTON—The U.S. stock market soared to record highs Thursday with the Dow industrial average rallying 144 points after Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke’s reassuring remarks that the gigantic monsters and robots in the summer blockbuster Pacific Rim looked “super fucking cool.” “I’m quite optimistic that for the foreseeable future, no other movie will even come close to topping the killer fucking battle scenes between those badass robots and crazy sea monster things,” said Bernanke, who guaranteed that investors would not be wasting their money on the upcoming Guillermo del Toro action film, claiming that the awesome CGI effects were totally worth paying “three extra measly bucks to see it in 3D.” “Have you seen the Hellboy movies? That guy comes up with totally crazy creatures. And you actually get to see goddamn robots, unlike those lame-ass Transformers movies. So much shit gets destroyed. Just a great popcorn flick.” At press time, Wall Street continued to have unprecedented gains after Bernanke announced that the film’s star, Charlie Hunnam, “has ‘Next Big Thing’ written all over him.”

Any references to animes are japanese kaijus in this movie so far?

I would love to see a whole Gurren Lagann, "WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK WE ARE?" reference, or something.

Variety is interpreting that news differently:

Box Office: ‘Grown Ups 2′ Poised to Trounce Still-Softly Tracking ‘Pacific Rim’:

Strong advanced ticket sales, largely from fanboys choosing Imax screenings, are making the prospects for “Pacific Rim” look stronger in the last gasp before its Thursday night opening. But fanboy fever alone probably won’t be enough to help the Warner Bros.-Legendary Pictures film open higher than the previously-predicted $35 million.

“Pacific Rim,” which cost upward of $185 million to produce, faces tough competition from Universal’s “Despicable Me 2,” which should win its second frame with a gross in the high-$40 millions, followed by Sony’s “Grown Ups 2,” tracking in the low-$40 millions.

The good news is that domestic box office has been especially elastic of late, capable of accommodating multiple big grossers at once.

“Pacific Rim” has been plagued by soft domestic tracking for the last several weeks. But enthusiastic monster pic fans (many of whom complained about Variety‘s review and tracking stories) are propping up advance ticket sales, while the pic stands at 72% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

By midweek, advanced ticket sales for “Pacific Rim” outpaced those of “World War Z,” which wound up overperforming with a $66 million domestic opening four weeks ago. However, the key difference for “Pacific Rim” is that it has Imax (“World War Z” didn’t), which tends to inflate advanced sales. As it stands, observers aren’t expecting “Pac Rim” to outperform its current expectations by much.

But what “Pacific Rim” really needs is better-than-expected family turnout — a possibility considering families are especially difficult to track relating to box office potential. Also — and it’s a big also — the film needs to become a hit overseas: Warner launches the film day-and-date this weekend in 38 territories, including the U.K., Mexico, Russia, South Korea, Italy and Australia.

Warner has high hopes for “Pac Rim” in Russia and S. Korea, especially, as well as in helmer Guillermo del Toro’s native Mexico.

The pic’s international rollout this weekend represents roughly 45% of the international market, though key territories, including France, Japan and China are set to follow in the coming weeks. Those markets will be very important for “Pacific Rim,” especially the latter two, where monster movies, in general, tend to overperform. Pic’s July 31 launch date in China is fortunate as it’s so close to the domestic release. (China Film Group controls all release dates on the mainland.)

Got my tickets for the 10pm imax screening, but I noticed my Regal just added a 7pm imax screening. I'm gonna be livid if those 7pmers take all of the posters after they specifically advertised that 10pm would be the first screening with the posters.

I want the damn posters. :P

I feel like we should just stop giving that magazine the click bait, even their own users seem to be smelling something fishy with their negativity reaching smear campaign levels.

lol, just caught up with one of the major local radio station's morning show review of this weekend's movies that was on the air earlier this morning.

The guy who reviewed Pacific Rim actually mentioned there was a conspiracy with Hollywood insiders not wanting it to do well because its not based off of an existing property. He went in not expecting to like it based off of some of the earlier negative reviews and ended up loving it.

Grown-Ups 2 review was essentially "not much to say, it was awful."

They then gave Fruitvale Station a really good review.

Heading out to the 7PM IMAX showing now! Hype levels piercing through the hype barrier!

Not the first time this has been said. Other outlets have said something similar as well.

Just based on the trailers, I've seen two possible references to Evangelion (Using a boat as a weapon and a dead monster being transported on an aircraft carrier). Also, one of the Kaiju heavily resembles Guiron from the Gamera films, although it also resembles a goblin shark.
