GAF, I was literally about to spoil the shit out of myself for this movie.

One second away and I read this page....

And now Im reading the comic backstory, taking my girlfiriend AND Im IMAXIN THAT BITCH!!

So hype for no friggin reason!!

Still can't believe someone gave Guillermo Del Toro money to make a movie where giant robots fight giant monsters. It doesn't seem like it should exist, but I'm oh so thankful it does. Can't remember the last time I felt genuine panic or excitement like this at a movie. Just dat...everything.

Now then, whose wheels do I have to grease to get a Yoji Shinkawa poster?

Going to see this tommorow matinee. Reaaaaly hope they still got Yoji posters.

Kinda bummed its not in Japanese like the original poster. That would have been much better.

While midpoint of the film dragged on for a while, the rest of it was amazing.
The action scenes were big (pun intended), loud, and awesome enough the make it worth the IMAX 3D price.

Didn't know there was another poster. I got one by Fanfix

Oh my.

That was a very special movie.

Watching Gipsy Danger in action was like poetry in motion. I have to confess that I found promotional images of this mech somewhat bland looking, but you really have to see it in action to get the appeal.

My only complaint is that
my favorite mech (Crimson Typhoon) was the first to go down...in the first half of the movie!
I hope to see a PR prequel someday that showcases a lot more viable Jaegers in action.

I'll definitely be seeing this movie again in Imax.

Spoiler tag that!

the movie makes it seem like
the time between the initiation of jaeger program to the current time of the movie was a time where jaegers were steamrolling all the kaijus (since they were just weak scouts) so a prequel might be kind of boring action-wise i guess. i mean striker eureka was to be decommissioned during the movies so i guess humanity was pretty confident

Saw it with my friend. 9 out of 10, 1 point removed for reasons in the spoiler thread. So good, I'm totally going to see it tomorrow again.

The second big fight in the movie is worth it. Our crowd cheered. Deified Data has it right, Gipsy Danger is way cooler than its appearance would suggest.

was great shit. talk more tomorrow in spoiler thread... also sad thing the imax here didn't have the imax posters.

good thing, they had a lot of the one by the MGS artist. And they didn't give a fuck.we

If you're able to grab one for me as well please if forever be in your debt :_;
Doesn't look like they'll come out in the uk :(

Just came back from the movie
Watched it for the first time in a Cine Capri at Harkins theatre. I had to only pay the student matinee of $8. That is a damn good price for a midnight premiere at their best auditorium. For comparison, the local cinemark and AMCs had a ticket price of over $10 just for their regular auditoriums. The screen size itself was bigger than average but nowhere near the size of an IMAX or XD. The sound system was stunning though and picture quality was excellent. Overall I thought the theatre was very nice and I highly recommend everyone checking out their local Cine Capri. I'll probably watch Elysium there as well.

Now as for the move:
When I went in to watch the movie I was pretty hyped. All the good reviews/word of mouth had me really excited.

I really liked the score. It was tense/epic at the same time. I have the music stuck in my head right now!

The plot was pretty generic and predictable. I guess dialogue had something to do with that as well. I would recommend people not going into this movie thinking it is serious a movie. There is clearly some dialogue in there that is supposed to make you laugh but it is kind of hard to do so when in the background there is a pretty serious life/death fight going on. I don't know...some people may like that but I surely didn't. Some of those lines were so cheesy that I had to hold myself from laughing (not because it was funny but because how dumb it was in that tense situation). I'm a pretty big anime fan and I did see some resemblance to Evangelion. But again the plot/dialogue is pretty generic and was probably the weakest part of the movie.

The visuals, on the other hand, were superb. This movie is one of those few movies that actually made it seem like it was worth the 200 million dollar budget (the actual budget was I believe 180 million). The jaegers were simply awesome along with the Kaiju. This movie had some of the best fight scenes ever in my opinion.

Overall the movie is simple, mindless fun. I went with a friend who is not an anime fan nor does he really like simple action movies. He said the movie was okay though.

Overall I give it a 7/10

Oh and BTW the theatre I went to wasn't exactly full. I was able to buy tickets 20 minutes before the movie started and was able to find good seats. Hopefully positive word of mouth really carries this movie.

Pacific Rim does for monster movies what The Matrix did for.kung.fu movies.I can't stop thinking about it. I hail it as a masterpiece of.monster movies, up there with the original King Kong and Gojira.

I'm heading to the comic store tomorrow to buy the prequel comic.

I wish all of us on this thread could see it together so we can join in a standing ovation. I'm gonna give it a standing O next time I see it in Imax 3d

This movie. THIS MOVIE. Had an absolute blast. We rarely get original, NEW properties, almost to the point that I still feel like I cheated the reality we live in with regurgitated hallow sequels of sequels, that were sequels of movies that came out 30 years ago, but somehow this one slipped through and I'm so damn happy it did. If you have a 7-12 year old son/nephew/cousin, YOU NEED TO MAKE SURE THEY SEE THIS. Kids are going to flip their lid for this in a big way.

Of all this year’s loud, over-long summer action movies that, in various ways, simulate the experience of having a tin bucket placed over your head and being struck repeatedly with a stick, it must be said that Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim is by far the most entertaining.

There's not a single original moment to be found in Pacific Rim's 130-minute running time, but that doesn't much matter because the familiar beats are conveyed with maximum expertise intended to provide a visceral experience.

It is one of the better dumbass sci-fi action movies to come down the pike in quite some time.

I agree with all of those reviews.

It's paint-by-numbers, it's 1 dimensional, it's cheesy, it's dumb, it's over-the-top, but despite all of that it still works.

I enjoyed myself even though I could see the entire story before it was shown.
