Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS: Info Collection - Dojo, Mega Man and Trailer! 2014!

If they wanted to address a couple of Olimar's weaknesses in Brawl, they could work them into a couple of his special moves. Maybe replace the Pikmin chain with Flying Pikmin, and change the Pikmin call into something more useful like a Rock Pikmin counter, and buff the attacking Pikmin to compensate for not being able to call them back after a toss.

The only concern would be that baking them into the moveset kind of goes against the design of the character, but there are options to work them in, if they want to. Pikmin 3's been in development long enough that they've probably been able to consider it since before Smash 4 started development.

Flying pikmin should be his B up. I'd love Olimar to be good so I can use him.

Just noticed Olimar's US page also has a small advertisement for Pikmin 3. Completely planned just like Villager being unveiled after New Leaf's release and Megaman 2-4 being released on the Wii U VC the day of Megaman's reveal.
Olimar's reveal obviously coincides with Pikmin 3, but those other two are reaches. New Leaf came out last November in Japan. Villager's the biggest potential newcomer and Mega Man's the most wanted guest character, so it makes sense that they would be revealed alongside the game.

I want more 3DS screens!

The Wii U version looks great, but I'm in love with the art direction of the 3DS version.

100% agree. It looks lovely on 3DS. Really dig the artstyle and the cel-shade style outlines.

I'm only getting the 3DS version too. More love, Nintendo!

As much as I loved Olimar in Brawl, I think he needed to be changed up a bit. He doesn't have the greatest mobility in the air and his recovery was bad too. Just relying on the pikmin chain is asking to get punished.

I fully plan to get both versions, but I'm definitely most excited for the 3DS version. Not only cause I adore the art style, but the fact that is the first handheld Smash Bros. and also the ideas Sakurai has to enhance the solo playstyle of a handheld game. Customization in Smash Bros. sounds way too interesting to pass up.

Gonna break this 3DS love combo here and say I'm looking more forward to the Wii U version.

Not that the 3DS version looks bad, and portable is always nice, but Smash Bros. in HD, officially, is going to be sweet.

The only other Pikmin rep should be an alternate costume for Olimar. Brittany and Alph are essentially the same size as Olimar from what I can tell.

Handheld Smash will be nice and all, but Smash is a game that really only works at its best on a console. I would gladly trade the 3DS version for having all its content in the Wii U version.

Villager maybe, but there is no doubt that Megaman's VC games were staved off until his reveal. While I doubt every game will always have some type of correlated character reveal, I don't think it is unreasonable to think it might continue through the rest of the year when the characters are at least being marketed (until now), more so than in the past.

This might also be the result of stages from games that haven't been released yet -- e.g. the Pikmin 3 stage in Olimar's screenshots. Obviously we'll have to wait and see whether something more concrete develops. For now I'm just enjoying Olimar's return and that beautiful new stage.

I don't disagree. There's obviously some cross promotion going on with Olimar (his profile page even links to the Pikmin 3 site), but I don't think that was the intention behind Villager or Mega Man. For better or worse, those two are probably the biggest "guns" in the newcomer roster. You wouldn't pick C-listers like Chrom or Palutena for the first glimpse of a new Smash Bros.

For some reason Olimar's reveal didn't excite me very much, though I'm a big fan of Pikmin. Perhaps it was because of the way he was announced.

It would be odd if only new characters would get me fully hyped, as obviously seeing any returning characters is great and I would be absolutely gutted if he wasn't in. Perhaps I need to lie down.

It wouldn't excite because it's essentially just him returning. Lack of fancy trailer also represses hype for him.

I find Mario Kart more fun on the handheld since I can play a grandprix on the commute to work. I have a feeling for me Smash Bros 3DS could end up having more play time than Smash Bros Wii.

This is pretty much how it'll be for me. I might enjoy the console version more, but I can almost guarantee that the 3DS version will get MUCH more play time out of me since I can play it wherever.

Also I haven't added to the Olimar conversation so I'll just sum up my feelings with YES I LOVE EVERYTHING!

Villager I'll concede, but as far as Megaman is concerned my only point is that Nintendo/Capcom marketed his VC games because he was planned to be revealed. Opposite of what happened with Olimar. In the end, regardless of whether Megaman, or Villager, served an ulterior motive they were still the most surprising -- arfuably most popular in Megaman's case -- and best choices for E3.

I've got to a stage where consoles don't really appeal to me that much and sitting down to play them can be a bit of a chore. Now I have a Wii U and will play a ton of Smash when it comes out, but the idea of just playing it on my 3DS while lying on the couch with the TV blurring in the background sounds more appealing.

Thats what Off-TV play is for :D

Agree with all above.

I'll play more on SSB 3DS thanks to the ability to play wherever i'd like, whenever.

I hardly use consoles now, I prefer my handhelds anyday.

Yeah, Smash on 3DS is the stuff of dreams.

No, literally, I had dreams about this kind of thing when I was a kid. Nintendo is quite literally making my dreams come true. I will be playing a ton of Smash on 3DS.

I'm actually one who have grown more fond of playing on portables rather than on the big screen, yet I'm more excited for Smash Bros on Wii U than on 3DS. This is just that one game I want for Wii U as a local multiplayer experience and I never played much PS All-Stars on my Vita so this fighter I'm gonna get for the big screen.

I saw some new headlines with screens of Olimar and first thought was "Uh so? They're just new screens." And then I forgot Olimar hadn't been revealed until today.

Dat hype yo. Oh god I miss Dojo.

I like prefer playing on consoles for if there is a choice. Portable mario karts aren't full mario karts to me, for example. Its something that may ( if I decide to purchace it) hold me over untill the full package mario kart comes out.

His recovery was like the only barrier to him being the very top of high tier. If his recovery gets buffed, he needs a lot of needing. <_<

I just realized Olimar's picture on the main site is missing the drop shadow that everyone else has.

Yep. It's because perspective and deepness is different for his picture. The other characters don't have nothing behind them so they can put the shadow on the background. But Olimar has the yellow pikmin behind him, so the shadow can not be casted the same way.

Finally a stage which doesn´t look totally washed out..

What stages look washed out?

It's nice that Olimar's whistle is integrated to his helmet now. I've always found it weird that he's able to use a whistle even though his helmet is in the way

Yeah, I really like that detail for him (and the other captains in Pikmin 3).

I really like that the Pikmin have a good amount more polygons now. No more super-blocky pikmin.
