Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS: Info Collection - Dojo, Mega Man and Trailer! 2014!

One employee in charge of a tweeter account = the whole of Nintendo. HA HA HA.

Seriously, I know that EVO incident cause a lot of you to get your knickers in a twist but some of you need to take the tinfoil hats off pronto.

Is this Pikachu?

More than that to be upset by, but I think we all want to believe the best about Nintendo. Nobody here really seems to be doing any true raging. I mean c'mon, we got a new character announcement today! It's a good day!

So my mortal emeny returns. Wow this came out of no where but I guess it is because pikmin 3 is coming out soon in Japan. Has to be. Looks nice but I was never excited for olimar. I never played pikmin lol.

those things in the background looks like tetris blocks.

dun dundundun dundundun dundundun dundun dun dundun dun dun dun dun dun!

Fixed that for you.

I had a lot of fun playing as Olimar in Brawl. Good to see he's back (even if it was expected).

I feel like part of the reason they revealed him so soon was because of all the speculation that the 3DS version would cause his dismissal.

Which kind of makes it unexpected!

So do you think this clueless tweeter thought it was Alph from Pikmin 3, put "Alpha" instead because he/she is that goofy, and then after making that mistake of a mistake, realized his/her mistake and changed it? Because that tweet is back now, just corrected to "Olimar." I guess what I'm secretly hoping is that Alph was just accidentally revealed in some regard. But you're probably right.

Maybe Captain Alph is secret character that they accidentally leaked. ;)

Still waiting for the 3DS screenshots of these console originated characters Sakurai.

Put the screenshots where your mouth is.

Or Olimar is one of those characters where Sakurai mentioned trouble with having multiple models within a character onscreen. Which may be why there isn't any 3DS screenshots.

Perhaps 3DS development will take longer then Wii U.

NoA is crap but man the FGC(tm) is terrible lol

Or maybe just Melee fanboys lol

How would that work with Olimar, though? He has a whole lineup that he can use so as to save the Pikmin and use them for Smashes and whatnot.

Same as the pikmin work currently. The only difference would be that the Pink and Rock ones are much more rare. You can still use the Down B Whistle to cycle through pikmin and choose the one you want though.

As far as Smash Bros. is concerned, the differences between the Purple Pikmin and Rock Pikmin would merely be aesthetic, and there's not much use for Flying Pikmin. I really wasn't expecting to see them.

I was thinking how Olimar has only three Pikmins down from five. (Maybe they couldn't handle five pikmins in 3DS?)

Since the reduced number of Pikmin will significantly nerf his up recovery move, do you think we'll have Flying Pikmin as his recovery? Given how Pit got huge makeover, this is possible.

I'm really curious as to why they didn't show Olimar using Rock or Wing Pikmin. It makes me think that either:

1) They're saving the reveal of those Pikmin for a later date.

2) There will be a second Pikmin rep based on Pikmin 3 that uses Reds, Blues, Yellows, Rocks, and Wings.

The fact that the Pikmin stage shown was clearly from Pikmin 3 makes me think the second option is likely. I would have preferred they just incorporate Rocks and Wings into Olimar though.

A second Pikmin character doesn't make any sense though. It would be the cloniest of all clones.

My guess is that they just haven't incorporated the new ones in yet.

I know, and that's why, even though Pikmin is probably my favorite franchise, I have trouble reconciling another rep. Hopefully they get them involved soon; I'd love to see them in action.

On that note, I'd love to see a video intro for veterans. I'm a little bummed that I don't get to see a video of Olimar in action for awhile.

There's no reason to shoehorn new things into his move set just because they're new, though. Purple and White Pikmin both work well in the context of a Smash Bros. fight, and it would be dumb to replace them just for the sake of it. Much like Skyward Sword, Pikmin 3's representation is in the form of a stage.

Anyone catch that DK player? Good stuff! That suicide split the banana.

If they wanted to address a couple of Olimar's weaknesses in Brawl, they could work them into a couple of his special moves. Maybe replace the Pikmin chain with Flying Pikmin, and change the Pikmin call into something more useful like a Rock Pikmin counter, and buff the attacking Pikmin to compensate for not being able to call them back after a toss.

The only concern would be that baking them into the moveset kind of goes against the design of the character, but there are options to work them in, if they want to. Pikmin 3's been in development long enough that they've probably been able to consider it since before Smash 4 started development.

There are some characters that need weaknesses.

Olimar is definitely one of those characters. (I wouldn't mind seeing the new Pikmin in his moveset though)

His reliance on the Pikmin will always be a weakness, but if we're going to assume he only has 3 Pikmin following him now (which I'm not really sure is the case), then his bad recovery has just become godawful. Revamping a couple of his moves wouldn't necessarily remove all his weak points, even if they help him out in a few places he suffered in before.

Just noticed Olimar's US page also has a small advertisement for Pikmin 3. Completely planned just like Villager being unveiled after New Leaf's release and Megaman 2-4 being released on the Wii U VC the day of Megaman's reveal.
