All the assholes in this thread saying the "right decision" was made are representative of the disgusting attitudes in this country and stupid laws that work against a black kid minding his own business. A black kid can be stalked, harassed and finally gunned down if you have stupid, racist, unfounded suspicions about him and you will get away with it if you can lie well enough that you did it in self-defense. This is yet another shameful moment in American history and I hope it's looked back upon as yet another embarrassing mistake in race relations.

It was unique in that the shooter called the police first. We have no reason to believe be wanted to shoot someone that night. He was reporting someone he was concerned with. 99.9% of murders stories do no start like that.

After he approached/confronted the person he was reporting, a fight ensued, and he ended up on the losing side of that fight, and in the midst of the fight he shot the person dead.

If you don't think this story is unique, well, I don't know what to tell you. The scenario and how it played out was very unique.
 
Also to me this is yet another example of why guns must be banned. Shooting someone dead should not be a suitable option for self defence. Especially not when its as a response to just a simple beat down.

When a cop tells you not to pursuit do not pursuit. Also he killed an innocent CHILD

Would you like it to be changed to guilty before proven innocent? The system worked as it should have, the burden of proof falls on the prosecution and there was not enough evidence to convict.

This is what I'm saying.

I'm not a big fan of the people openly posting that they think Zimmerman should not be punished for killing Trayvon Martin, but at least they're being honest compared to the people posting that we all have to abide by the legal system regardless of whether we don't like its outcomes.

Tell me you are joking. This whole trial has made me sick and as a black man in America, I have no faith in our justice system or hope that I would be properly defended in a court of law. Say what you want but the people calling this a fair case and "great job" for the defense on defending Zimmerman makes me just as nauseous. Insanity.

There was a black women recently that was prosecuted on charges of vehicular homicide recently.

She was crossing the street with her child after getting off a bus.

She and her child got hit by a driver and the kid was killed.

And SHE got prosecuted for vehicular homicide. Again, while WALKING and her child was killed by someone else, and she was hauled off to jail for crossing the road at her bus stop.

Oh, and the driver admitted to having had drinks. And was on pain medication. And fled.

Amurica.

People really need to stop saying things like this. The fact that the jury didn't feel the prosecution carried its burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt doesn't say anything about the value of any person's life, regardless of that person's race.
 
Apologies for my ignorance, but I haven't been following this case since it initially happened. What was the main thing that had the jury decide he was not guilty?

He didn't do anything at all? Really? Shooting a child and ending his life even if it was in self-defense is still something that any normal person would probably consider a traumatic event and would have some regret that things happened. Zimmerman never once has shown the slightest hint of any feelings of remorse at all. If that doesn't let you know that something doesn't add up with his side of the story, then I just feel sorry for you as well.

Look. The state over charged. The jury by asking for the definition of manslaughter wanted to convict. Not guilty does NOT mean innocent.

You can get away with anything if you lie well enough and the evidence isn't there. It's just how the system works.
 
Not surprising and IMO the correct verdict. Most people will put this behind them in less than a month and move on with their lives. As for Zimmerman, I think he should get the hell out of the country.

Especially if you're armed with a weapon and the other person has been found to literally be doing nothing but walking home. None of this makes any damn sense.

I'm 100% confident this would've been an open and shut case if a black man had stalked a white kid and subsequently gunned him down. A complete no-brainer for everyone involved. Apparently it's a fucking mystery if it's a black kid and this known racist and murderer still gets to walk.

Scientifically, there is no such thing as race, but in this context you need to ask yourself, would a racist sheriff in rural Alabama pull George Zimmerman for driving while not being white?
The answer for that is no (unlike someone who looks like Obama), and that's why he's white.
