Verdict reached in George Zimmerman case - Not Guilty

My favorite defense of GZ is that "this should have never went to trial."

That's dumb. This should have went to trial. An unarmed minor got killed by a guy who changed his story a bunch of times and was told not to follow the subsequently killed person.

No matter the verdict this sure as hell should have went to trial.

Exactly. THAT was the real travesty here, not the actual goddamn trial.

Once again confirming that black lives are worth less in America. The entire system is profoundly racist and once again American gun laws are shown up to be utterly cretinous. Chalk another one up for the wannabe dickhead self-appointed sheriffs.

I really feel for the family, this verdict is utterly heart-rending. If there was any justice this disgusting louse of a man would be locked up for life.

Oh snap... Politician lady said that they truly believed based on the evidence they had and the words that Zimmerman had used and his mindset showed that they could try him for Murder 2.

Jury does what jury does.

I agree with the ruling per the processes of the Florida legal system, but out of principle, it bothers me that a man who killed a teenager doesn't receive any punishment for his actions...not even something minor.

As a result, my reaction to the commencement of the case is rather neutral.

I haven't watched much on the case at all since I figured he would get off of it anyway, despite everything. Still, I just saw snippets of TM's friend(?). What in the hell was she thinking and why would she even say the things she did? That didn't help ANYTHING at all.

So Zimmerman deserve to go to jail? Trayvon was the aggressor as pointed out, situation could've been avoided IMO. You guys may be mad oh well.

In my state, I can go to jail for beating a guy down because I know martial arts. I go to jail even if I'm defending myself.

So yeah, Zimmerman should go to jail for killing a minor, because it was his actions that led to the death of that minor.

I think there's a real problem when you can pursue someone with a weapon and then claim self defence when a confrontation occurs even if the self defence is legitimate at that point in time. I feel like there needs to be a law against actively following someone while you have a deadly weapon on your person.

Agreed with this - I think the idea that you can pick a fight and then claim self-defense is complete madness.

Do people really believe this? Dude can disappear half way across the world no problem and live a perfectly normal life. Heck give it a year or two max and going to another state and he would blend in no problem. Can change his name too if he wants.

However, as a human being, the psychological torture of killing another human being I would imagine will be with him for the rest of his life. If he has some sense of a conscience at least. I know it would haunt me even if I knew I did it in self defense.

I have to believe that since it'll be the only thing that that satisfies me with regards to the outcome of this case.

Florida juries are truly the worst in the fucking country. We need to pool from bordering states or something. I'm not even mad about the Murder 2 but no manslaughter though?? Wow, I'm done.

Genuinely odd speech from the state attorney.

What a weird thing to say immediately after...

Nah I meant from defending himself from a horrible punk.

Oh you're just asking for pain on this one

Interesting thing is, if Martin had killed Zimmerman in that scuffle, he would've been found guilty. Even if he had been defending himself against an obvious harasser who happened to be armed.

I'm not sure I would call that "interesting," but it is certainly accurate.

Disgusting.

I'm really ashamed to be born in Florida , even with all the stupid shit that happens here all the time nothing has enraged me more than this verdict.

So if I got this right...

The only thing Zimmerman is guilty beyond the shadow of a doubt of being is a huge cunt. He's a horrible person which society would probably be better off without, but there just wasn't enough evidence against him.

Yeah?

People let their emotions get carried away in this whole thing. Don't get me wrong. Zimmerman is an idiot and Trayvon was probably a little shit of a kid too. Of course, his death was unfortunate. Zimmerman made a terrible decision. Still, Trayvon could have walked away though. But based on the evidence, the charges and state law, I think the jury made the right call. Murder 2 was over zealous. Manslaughter...maybe you could charge him with that. But the evidence can go either way. The defense made a more logical argument while the prosecution attempted to pull heart strings. In the end, logic won. Still this whole thing is a giant mess and shouldn't have happened.

I agree, and I feel like the fact that it took 13 hours of deliberations, instead of a five-minute verdict, is a pretty good sign it belonged in a trial. It didn't stretch out for weeks, but there was clearly enough here that it took some discussing to come to a verdict. As upsetting as the verdict may be.

THERE, thanks for that -_- shit isn't about color. I know a lot of hot heads around by me who don't give a damn about authority.

Right. When it comes down to it, it seems like this was a case of "when keeping it real goes wrong" on the part of both parties.

People aren't just upset because someone they probably don't know got away with murder, they're upset because a precedent has been set.

As long as you can provoke them to be the "aggressor", it's legal to kill an innocent, unarmed minor.

Ha. It doesn't even have to be a minor. What states besides Florida have this insane law?
