Verdict reached in George Zimmerman case - Not Guilty

Such a fucked up country. So, you can follow someone, provoke a fight, and when they're losing kill and thats just self defense...

Depends on what you mean by "provoke a fight." It also depends on state laws. If someone were following me personally, I would go into a store/back home/knock on someone's door for help and call the cops. If they stopped and asked me a question, I'd hear them out and ask them why they were following me. If, and only if, they attempted to attack me first, would I even think of striking them. Following someone is not against the law. It's really stupid and a shitty thing to do, but not against the law.

Given that, there was no evidence that Zimmerman attacked or tried to apprehend Trayvon first. It would also make no sense for Zimmerman to have attacked Trayvon first if he knew the police were on their way. He should have gone back to his car and stayed there, but he didn't. And he broke no laws by deciding to pursue if that's indeed what he did.

He was a security guard, wasn't he? Maybe the moral of the story is you shouldn't fuck with authority. Assuming Zimmerman tried to apprehend Martin, had Martin simply done as he was told he could have potentially filed a wrongful arrest / kidnapping lawsuit against Zimmerman when the dust had settled. As it stands, he fought with the community's authority figure and got himself killed.
what? no.

So young black teens doing nothing wrong now have to do as they are told by random strangers who have no actual positions of authority?

Any teens.
If a security guard tries to question or detain you, you don't get into a fist fight with them. That's just stupid and escalates the situation. Note, I don't think Zimmerman has any business carrying a loaded weapon (imo a tazer is probably all he should be legally able to carry as a community patrol, that is if America's gun laws weren't so retarded).

Trayvon ran away. Zimmerman followed. Do people just ignore that or...
No they acknowledge it. That's how they support the defenses claim that Trayvon ran away to hide in a bush to jump out of the darkness and attack poor innocent George Zimmerman while he was just walking back to his vehicle.

....yeahhh

George Zimmerman is a fat racist murdering cowardly piece of excrement. GAF lawyer ball players make me sick. Commend Trayvon's soul and may Zimmerman choke on his own cowardice. And may gaffers who tacitly supported Zimmerman kiss my ass.

Don't make me follow you at night.

The jury had the option of convicting on manslaughter, though--murder 2 was the higher charge, manslaughter was automatically included and available to them. They didn't want to convict on it either. What was the state supposed to charge him with then?

The prosecution probably should have charged him solely with manslaughter and then laser-focused their argument to prove only that charge. The prosecutors absolutely bungled this case.

Shh..don't let anyone in that he's Hispanic, that will ruin their whole "white on black" angle.

Whiteness is relevant only inasmuch as it lead other people to support Zimmerman's killing as a proxy for their own feelings about black youths. Blackness (and how it, in Zimmerman's mind and that of many commentators, marked Martin immediately as a violent criminal and a disposable life) is much more relevant to this situation.

I love how people selectively quote...just saying.

GZ should have gotten manslaughter at most. He is stupid and overreacted. However, based on Florida law and lack of evidence against him, technically, the right call was made. From a pure legal standpoint this makes sense. From a moral standpoint it's really fucked up. GZ should do some time for this. He needs to punished and repent. But hey, blame the Florida justice system

Is it wrong of me to hope that all the fattening up he did since the incident, presumably to look less threatening for the jury, leads to some dire cardiovascular incident in the near future?

This IT guy being fired should be a bigger story but guess it doesn't matter now that this is over.

lolol

that cat is ridiculous and the firing is warranted. He claims that he's fired because he stood up for truth. But in reality he was in it for himself the entire time.

There were some leaks about this case early this year specifically stuff from the phone. He was specifically questioned about the leak and denied it. Now when they found out it was INDEED him who leaked the data, it was clear that he could not be trusted.

Not even manslaughter?

WTF?

Self-defense is a justification for both crimes. So, even if the jury felt that manslaughter was proven, if they also felt that self-defense was not disproven, they had to return a not guilty verdict.

Whats that about. Any story on this ?
State department IT guy testified that the prosecution withheld evidence from the defense. Then he was fired. I think if Zimmerman was found guilty it would have been a bigger story maybe? I don't know everything about it to be honest maybe someone else can chime in.

Please stop. He wasn't a security guard and your hypothetical analogous situation makes no sense

This man got his head bashed into concrete FOUR times:

What a shame.

Jesus can we stop the bullshit. I read that story and they kicked his skull in.

Some of you should honestly take that firey passion and donate to the ACLU, SPLC or start volunteering at a nonprofit. I'm serious by the way, not trying to be snide.

What am I even reading right now, seriously?

Seriously?
