Absolutely. In my opinion, if you kill an unarmed kid you need to prove you did it in self defense.

This isn't a case of "Did he kill him?". If he were potentially innocent of that, I would agree with you.

This whole incident was a mess, and I'm not in the practice of judging people I don't know personally. I hope today's verdict was the right one. I'll leave it at that.

Considering how the trial has been going, I half-expected this outcome to occur...as a result, I was kind of numb at the verdict in the sense that "Not guilty" didn't shock me to the core.

It's still disappointing and my gut tells me that the verdict was unfair.

I know you're upset and angry, and potentially going to get banned. But I feel you dude. I believe everything happens for a reason. Maybe this is the case to actually make a difference and get people to wake up and force some change in the legal system? And if not people, politicians on the other side of the fence. This was a global case, massive coverage, and it is also globally embarrassing for the US, despite many American's not seeing it. I think it could be a catalyst for change, and it certainly highlights the dire issues with the current legal system louder than any case in recent memory.
 
I love that there's a video of Canadians rioting over fucking hockey, but presented out of context it becomes fuel for racists to claim that blacks are savage and uncivilized.

This means a lot to certain people, as well it should. This situation serves as a stark reminder just how disrespected black people are in this country. A young man was killed, and his character was dragged through the mud in order to justify the shoot.

It's a slap in the face, and just because you handle it indifferently does not mean other should, or even can.

I honestly believe that it's better for 100 guilty men to go free than for 1 innocent man to be locked away.

I salute Satch for saying what he felt and falling on his sword, but after my first (and hopefully only) forced vacation I had here, it's easier for me to just not say anything to some of these people.

As bad as GAF is right now with a handful of people being jerks, it's easier for me to be here than anywhere else on the Internet. I can't even imagine what kind of bile is being spat by some people, and I don't want to.

You have no idea if he was defending himself. Based on the evidence, the reasonable and common sense assumption is that he instigated the violence and was the one with racism and/or malice in his mind, that and he was armed with a gun.

There is no justifiable defence of Zimmerman in this case imo. He wrongly chased down and followed a poor child in the middle of the dark, and in the rain, despite being told to do the opposite, and then when he confronted him and it ended in a scuffle and he took a hit or maybe two, like a coward he decided to murder the boy.
 
No way Satch should be banned for that post. I hope that doesn't happen. Emotions are running high, and this is the place we have to express it right now. This is not a normal night, and this is not a normal thread.
