Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS: Info Collection - Dojo, Mega Man and Trailer! 2014!

I'm pretty sure those clips are just short CGI snippets, like in Melee's intro. I doubt they're from Adventure Mode. And yeah, Hyrule Castle is TP's model, and the environment around Samus looks directly taken from Other M.

I scream, you scream, we all scream for CGIce cream!

I scream, you scream, we all scream for CGIce cream!

I hope you're referencing 'Down by Law'.

Now, on the Graphics side of the Wii U version, it really feels like the textures are low resolution, how come they don't have the very nice looking textures and geometry from the CGI trailers...

A little off topic and thinking out of the box as well as quite unlikely, but do you think that the 2-3 second clips of Link, Samus, Kirby, etc. introducing the characters and series they are from contain glimpses of the future of those series - I'm probably way off and they are just promotional work or apart of one of the cutscenes in Adventure Mode?

But maybe it could have taken a few design ideas from the teams working on the real games...

For example, the structure of Hyrule and Design of the castle in this picture from the very short Zelda clip - is the design like this in any 3D Zelda games of the past:

riQhrbL.jpg

And in the Metroid picture - what type of location would this be in in the Metroid universe, it looks like a futuristic brightly colored industrial building:

imhrqHE.jpg

It is the castle from Twilight Princess, but it is out of place from where it was in Twilight Princess. It's weird, because the castle is just by its self. No castle town, no field that looks similar to Hyrule.

They clearly are using a Twilight Princess inspired design for Link anyway. Why would you think this is the future of the series based off of the Smash Bros versions? That has only ever been the case for Pit. And only then because they had to update Pit when they put him in.

Why all that effort retooling a character who's already bigger than Samus who herself is one of the tallest characters in the game (Her head nearly touches the bottom of the platforms in Battlefield -_-) when the other hunters are all just sitting there with viable movesets....

Because almost nobody knows or cares about the hunters, while there are plenty of fans who're requesting Ridley ever since Melee? Given the chance to choose a very well known character, or an hunter who's appeared in one game that very few played, do you think that Sakurai's concern would be the height of said characters?

Fire Emblem and Earthbound are very well known and loved in Japan, especially the former, Kid Icarus was going to be soon in a 3DS game directed by Sakurai himself. All of them were main characters from those series. The hunters are on a totally different level of obscurity.

Metroid deserves more representation than just Samus and Samus in her Underwear.

Its either Ridley or Dark Samus

The internet believes that Nintendo's Japanese office doesn't acknowledge the existence of Retro Studios.

seriously though, Ridley and Mother Brain are the key villains of one of Nintendo's most cherished franchises, and Mother Brain would be a terible fighter.

Does it? If there's not another character that could appropriately represent a franchise in Smash, then it doesn't deserve more representation. A character shouldn't be forced to work in Smash just because fans deserve the series he/she/it comes from deserves more representation. That's silly.

I'm not saying Metroid doesn't deserve more representation, but neither am I convinced that Ridley would be a good fit for Smash. And if he's not, there's not really any other appropriate Metroid character that could represent the series in Smash (too few people care about/remember the bounty hunters from Metroid Prime: Hunters for them to count).

I'm just saying, "XXX series deserves more representation" is a piss poor reason to add a character to Smash's roster, and considering Samus has been the only Metroid rep since the original Smash, it would seem Sakurai feels the same way.

A film that quote originated from.

It actually comes from an old song from the 1920's, and I think that it only has an 11.5% chance of being included in the Smash 4 soundtrack.

dr. peepee (falco)
armada (peach)

along with ice (sheik), wobbles (ice climbers) and shroomed (dr. mario). it WILL be hype. check it out!

What time is this again?

AAlso Bowser vs Mario is different to this, Mario's height compared to Samus is what allows Bowser to work. Bowser can still be clearly taller than Mario without being overly huge. Ridley's height is already handicapped by how tall Samus already is in.

Size argument is invalid.

In Melee Ridley is just barely bigger than Samus
dlAkSma.jpg

Same with NES Ridley.
Size should not be taken into question.
Ridley doesn't need to be on his hind legs either, if hes on all four, he'd potentially be smaller than Samus.

I also mentioned Mario vs Bowser in my post:

bowser.jpg

Just about every Mario game, Bowser is HUGE compared to Mario.
Bowser Jr. was also big in Galaxy.

Before Smash Bros, Bowser showed that he is able to adjust his size. In Mario canon (if you consider such a thing), magic is usually involved.

Considering that Pikmin, Kirby, and most of the unevolved Pokemon are a lot bigger in the get smash world than are in canon, though, size itself isn't as much of an issue. For someone like Ridley, though, body proportions in combination to the size they would likely make to make him a playable character may make things challenging.

It's crazy that Shiek made it so far, her up+B move looks pretty crappy (but I don't know much about competitive Smash).

Also wobbling.

That Hyrule Castle is definitely from Twilight Princess. The Samus scene looks nearly straight out of Other M.

I wouldn't look too close into them.

Yeah. the first thing that came to my mind looking at that Samus scene was the Bottle Ship from Other M

So what happens if Sakurai confirms Ridley? Will the cycle be broken and will we all be free? This thread is going to turn into a whole bunch of "I TOLD YOU" responses once we find out whether or not he's a playable character, isn't it?

Also yes I'm excited to see how Melee Evo will pan out. C'moooonnnnnn armada! Peach your way to victory!

It's been nearly 24 hours and we're still debating Ridley?

Lol.

Ridley never stops being debated, he is the alpha and the omega of smash debate.

It's strange just how much people debate over ridley though, I desperately want him in as well but the sheer amount of talk surrounding him is immense.

I want to say the main reason he's as popular as he is is because of Slowbeef and Diabetus, because I know that's why I like him apart from his awesome design.

Isn't accurately portraying the character kind of important? Not just to the fans, but in particular to Sakurai. Who even wants to play as a small Ridley bunched up like a purple cat on all fours. How is that a better representation of the character than being a boss? If you just want to play as something that vaguely looks like Ridley just get a shitty Charizard skin in Brawl and pretend the rest of your way there

Yes guys we're taking about Ridley again. We really needed your posts to lament it, which ironically contribute even less to the discussion than what you're trying to critique.

I was getting sick when we got back to the Geno debates. Just another cycle in SmashGaf.

At first I was really fine with it. Was fine with it the second and third time. But every other time now just retreads and adds some extra bullshit into it. The Geno stuff isn't as bad as Waluigi, let alone Ridley.

Because a lot of people like being able to play as the antagonists of the series?

Smash is the only game where you'd realistically be able to play as characters such as Ganondorf, Ridley and K. Rool, without them being in some weird spinoff puzzle platformer or something that has no relevance to their actual games.

I already pointed out why this example is always terrible.

Agreed. Kraid and Crocomire are better anyway.

Sarcasm

Who wants to play as Mewtwo or Ganondorf anyway?

Calling the Ridley debate discussion at this point is being generous. It just comes down to people who think it can be done, and people who don't. Whatever is pointed out isn't going to matter. What's said isn't going to change people's stance on the matter.

It's almost like some of you don't know how to change the topic when you are sick of a thread direction (over a game receiving a trickle of news) instead of dwelling on it and therefore prolonging it...

Edit: In response to the above, you realize that for some people this is the first time they've argued this "discussion" here right? Just because you've seen it before doesn't mean everyone has.

So what do you think Sakurai means when he says the 3DS version will be a more customizable version?

Is he thinking stuff like stickers that alters secondary effects(fire/darkness/etc), damage output? Or does he mean there are customizable attacks you can swap around and play with to make a character more unpredictable?

This, if you're sick of a topic and think that there's actually something better to discuss, just start discussing it, that's more likely to get people to stop talking about Ridley than saying "guys stop talking about Ridley pls"

I really don't like the idea of customisable attacks, you should instantly be able to know a characters abilities just from knowing which character it is, not knowing whether a character has some move that's say more of a defensive move than one that's a finisher until it's too late would be really shitty.

I hope he doesn't try using stickers outside of single player, but I'm afraid it could happen. (hated Gems in SFxT for reference)

You're right, should have changed the topic instead, but I would prefer it not be brought up again because it doesn't seem to bring any meaningful discussion.

What stages are you guys hoping comes into the game?

I want the final boss stage of Fire Emblem Awakening to be a stage.
SPOILERS BELOW:

Yes, I want to fight on top of a dragon!

Another one I want is a Xenoblade one. It is the Mechonis Arm. Those who played the game knows what can happen on the stage.

I just hope theres no leveling up. Not in mah Smash.Ever.

I think he was probably just talking about different clothes you can buy with in game points and put on your character like Tekken.
